I've seen that one around a few times. Can it get a pretty varied sound?Kenny wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:04 pm It's only a kick drum, but the Vermona Kick Lancet is a beast of a machine.

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I'm looking for drum machines recommendations. I have a volca drum and it's not totally doing it for me. It'd be nice to have something with a little more oomph to it. I've real about the Roland TR 909 and Alesis SR16. Thoughts? TR 909 is digital, fine machine if that's what you're after. SR16 is h...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I just picked up a Quadraverb. I have mixed feelings about synthetic reverb in noise music, but maybe this could reveal some interesting sonic territory to me. Just messing around to become acquainted with it (having not yet read the manual), though, I got some neat sounds, so we'll see what happen...

Re: Korg MS-20
I love processing external sources with it, the filters are incredible. A relatively easy trick is processing its own sound from the headphone jack. Gives the oscillators some distortion. To get some boosted pink noise, you can put put it through the external processor. The thing is a ton of fun and...

Re: Forgotten noises from the entrails of the vault
I may be out of the loop, but this 1996 Strict tape Impulsion is one of my favorites. Great Italian lofi noise. It's on an Italian label but Strict was an American project. The album "In Preparation" is hailed as a classic in smaller circles, asfaik, though he definitely doesn't get as mu...

All this advice is really incredible. I've got cables and adaptors coming in the mail and have already sent some material out to an artist. Thanks again everyone. I hope to see y'all around sometime soon.

Wanted: Minneapolis artist for making some noise
Hello all, I'm a Minneapolis based noise maker looking for someone who would be interested in jamming. I've been seriously recording for about a year so far and like to use a combo of synths (MS20, Wasp) and pedals paired up with banging on metal. Also into tape stuff. Stylistically I'm open; I like...

Re: Forgotten noises from the entrails of the vault
I recently found out about a group called Hunting Lodge, from Michigan in the early '80s - great noisy / industrial / tribal stuff. 1983's "Will" and 1984's "Nomad Souls" have been on high rotation for the last few weeks. Thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware of Hunting Lodge exist...

Re: Advice for a newbie
Something that I wish had been a resource when I first started is the multitude of online tutorial videos on recording, mixing and mastering. Very few, if any, are tailored to noise, but the knowledge I have gained from watching these have been invaluable in my understanding of recording sound. Man...

Re: Advice for a newbie
A lot of good advice in this thread. A lot of stuff I'm sure some of us heard when staring off. I don't want to just echo everyone, but I'll repeat a couple of things that have stood out over the years- Take your time and work to be proud at your releases, don't work to drop 6 tapes in a year. Thin...

Re: Advice for a newbie
Thank you all for the words of advice. I'm at work on my phone, so I can't type out as much as I'd like to.
I'm taking screenshots of a lot of these responses so I can keep them in mind going forward. I hope to play shows with you all in the future (sooner than later).

Re: Advice for a newbie
[_] Make a schedule . Use a digital or a paper calendar and pencil in the exact days and hours you dedicate solely to recording. Phone/internet/people off during that time. Rigor breeds creativity, not the other way around. [_] Do not fall into the trap of buying the latest and greatest gear . I've...

Re: Advice for a newbie
And there's no rush in getting your first release out. The world will wait. John Wiese once said "don't release your first recordings", I think that's very good advice. That's something I've heard a lot. I had a cd done and raring to go, but held off on releasing it. Listening to it now, ...

Re: Advice for a newbie
A broader comment related less to the actual craft of noise making but don't be afraid to get in touch with people whose work you enjoy and tell them you enjoy it. Most noise artists/labels are not wading in fan mail and over time these small attempts to contact people can form into long term conne...

Re: Advice for a newbie
Don’t buy a ton of expensive gear at once, but try to learn your few first devices in and out and advance from there. That’s what I wish I wouldve done at least. And record stuff you really want to hear yourself, and listen to it until you start to feel stupid. Already made the gear mistake, just n...

Advice for a newbie
Hi all,
I've only been recording noise seriously for about a year now. Haven't played any shows with this project (covid, obviously). Still finding my footing and focus. Anybody have any general advice for a novice?
Thanks in advance.
