Re: old world problems

Unfortunately it is difficult to find quality high-speed dubbing machines that weren't intended to mass produce low quality audio cassettes. Sometimes you can find them in church basement sales, since some churches used to release recordings of sermons and have long since forgotten they had one of t...

Re: old world problems

Sometimes blank tapes won't have tabs because they're intended for high speed dubbers which don't require tabs for recording.

Re: Necessary Fixation Update

Less than 15 copies of Disaggregate remain available, and less than 10 of both the split and the Rien tape. Copies are en route to Satatuhatta (again) after an error led to a returned package. Distro copies are currently available via Scream & Writhe and are on route to Puke Pink distro in the US.

Re: Mail Day / Noise & Trade Parcels

Just listened to Coronado the other day and loved it. The more consise tracks fit the material well, and to my ears there seems to be some sort of "arc" underlying the whole thing if maybe a pretty obtuse one. Possibly (probably) that is a complete projection on my part. Its got lots of bl...

Star - Elephant in the Snow (2CD) - Hospital Productions

I devoted last night's listening to Star's recent full-length on Hospital, which has seen a lot of buzz and some discussion already. I wasn't into this album at all when I first heard it, I picked it up based on many glowing recommendations for the project with only having heard a little of the mate...

Yes Mrs. Bumgartner, I'm here to perform Bob Dylan's classic "Blowing in the Wind". I hope you enjoy . . . https://youtu.be/aq5xw4Qsy5M You know, this set actually absolutely fucking slams. A good friend of mine stumbled across this one night we were hanging out, and I still often return ...

The Ebony Tower was from Texas and was still living there when last I heard. Unless maybe he moved to France? He also put together this absolutely massive HNW release which he released physically on data DVDrs: https://harshnoisewall.bandcamp.com/album/les-rougon-macquart Another titan of the dark s...

Re: Sojial Meejia, goodbye

Welcome to the void, it's quite liberating. I ditched Instagram and Twitter back in November, been off facebook for 3 or 4 years now. Don't miss any of it. Forums like this and email subscriptions are usually enough to keep me informed. If the tape was only advertised on instagram? Fuck it. Who cares.

Spent most of today going through collage materials and scraps, as well as assembling some sketches using bits and pieces I've had too long. Here was my playlist: Corral Shut - Ramshackle CD The New Boyfriends - 1 & 2 2xCD Lapse - Powerline CD Primitive Wings - Morphosis CD I decided to spend th...

I know Peter Keller of Bacillus fame does some stuff like this. https://perpetualabjection.bandcamp.com/album/negative-to-the-power-of-infinity Nice to see you on here Scott, I've been meaning to say hello. Re: Releases of note (so far) for 2023

The new solo Kiran album is also great. Heavier emphasis on the "electro-acoustic" minimal sound on this one but good mix all the way around. I just heard this one over the weekend and I agree, I was surprised by the more minimal palette, but I think it works effectively. I also wanted to...

Presage - Venerated CS Haven't seen the Presage tape mentioned a whole lot but I agree it is most excellent. Quite the follow-up to Hair Diaries. A few more releases of note: Primitive Wings - Morphosis CD (can't overemphasize this enough) Seepage - Tertium Quid 2CD. Had to wait a little while to g...

Re: Releases of note (so far) for 2023

The Primitive Wings - Morphosis CD on Satatuhatta is one of my favorite noise releases I've heard recently. I'm not sure if it's the choices in sound/approach, the pacing, or the overall vibe but this disc really hits all the right spots. In reality it's probably some specific combination of all of ...

Work/death is a very important project to me both in sound and visual approach. Mulberries Ripen and Rot as well as Go and Be Gone are two of my favorite noise releases and I often return to them. This is not an "interview" strictly speaking, but he says a few things about his work and bac...

Re: What is your criteria for how you decide if you like noise?

I recently had the same experience with Skinny Puppy – VIVIsectVI. When it came out I could not wrap my head around it. Now I'm listening to it with a different "more mature" set of ears. Update. After posting and listening again, I still don't like the LP. I go through this song and danc...

Re: What is your criteria for how you decide if you like noise?

The criteria is always a moving target. I saw an interview with John Cage when I was younger that I've not been able to find again where he says something along the lines of asking yourself WHY you dislike something upon hearing it. With that in mind I sometimes go back and revisit albums or project...

Re: HNW

A depressing look through the Harsh Noise Wall tag on bandcamp has brought me back here. Even in OP's initial start to this thread there's this notion that if a recording is to be HNW then it must adopt Vomir's approach and whenever HNW is discussed there are such extremely rigid criteria for determ...
