Re: Books

On an Arthur Machen binge currently I re-read The Three Imposters, Great God Pan and The Hill of Dreams recently, really enjoyable! I still need to pick up “The White People” anthology, which I have not read. I’m currently reading Wuthering Heights which is really great! British people can be very ...

Great band. That split 8” flexi was a very easily accessible record for me when I was a young lad.

Re: Punk/Hardcore

What are some modern punk bands (from the last five years or so) that people here have been following, or super into? Most of my hardcore listening these days goes to reissues and the Swedish/Finnish/Italian hardcore bands, I do a poor job of keeping up with new bands… however…. I find Paranoid (SW...

Bottom - I hadn’t heard of this until recently, it was VERY funny. Plot was ridiculously predictable but overall the film itself was very weird and enjoyable.

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist

Has anyone purchased either the newer 60 or 30ish cd boxsets? I haven’t but I would also prefer purchase one really good Merzbow reissue for $50 than spend a lot more on a set with (potentially) a lot of filler on it. I was very interested in the Merzbient set(s) but was never able to justify pulli...

Re: BEAT SHIT

The Bug - Machine III - noisy and dark , like the inside of a sinister alien spaceship. https://thebugmusic.bandcamp.com/album/machine-iii I've been crazy about this shit lately - I recently picked up "Fire" which is just out of control. I've had the Soul Jazz compilation "Invasion o...

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching

Riders of Justice - my brother suggested this as an "action/comedy" and while it is in fact both those things it's also not? It was great. I really enjoyed it. Extremely absurd. Mads Mikkelson is very funny in it without making a single joke. Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny - not gre...

Hi, added 80+ noise tapes this week - trades welcome, just looking to move some stuff not getting played frequently.

Re: Sissy Spacek fun chat thread

I'm really excited for both of these!! They sound excellent. I really enjoyed Absorb Wanting Symbols and Live In Hong Kong which were the only two SS CDs I purchased this year. I am really hoping to snag a copy of the LP they released on FOAD but I don't order from FOAD direct as I always either get...

Re: Books

Just read The Spy Who Came In From The Cold by John La Carre. I had read Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy a few years ago and really liked. it. Went back to the first book Call For The Dead and finished that in a couple of days, I really liked that one too. I think my 2024 goal is to read all the George Sm...

Re: Listening (to) space: Mono vs stereo

Luke of Skeleton Dust/Heat Signature reminded me of this and actually noted that many Blue Note releases that were originally recorded in mono sounded terrible when remixed in stereo. I remember reading this https://rvglegacy.org/mono-and-stereo/ about RVG Studios - very interesting! In fact the en...

Re: Listening (to) space: Mono vs stereo

I had always heard that Phil Spector mixed his recordings in mono because the average listener wasn't able to afford/comprehend/manage a "real" stereo setup (I've heard variation on this that he thought people were too dumb to set up properly or that radio was not capable of delivering a f...

Re: Books

Just finished "The Portable Edgar Allen Poe" after having wanted to read it forever and a day. I'd read his "classic" tales but went a little deeper. They were pretty great, although some were a bit of a slog. I read the complete HP Lovecraft cycle this year and those were consis...

Re: Synth Sounds: Old and New

If I may, John Carpenter used Prophets (mainly the Prophet 5) and not Junos. If you can deal with the interface, Behringer's Pro 400 sounds very convincing for its price. I haven't used it but I just sold their Monopoly and it was really well done (a 12 kg beast too.) Absolutely fair - you may!! I ...

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching

I also watched The Fall Of The House Of Usher on NF. 10/10 sort of stuff. I worship at the Corman/Poe/Price flicks of the 70's and this had clearly a higher budget but maintained the spirit of schlock while mixing a weird Succession kind of vibe.

Re: Noise in the Mainstream

The intro to American Horror Story is defiantly verging on noise. I'm not a fan of the show, but I do like that intro. I had not listened to the theme in years - very well done!! I LOVED that show, I think the last season I watched was the camp one with Richard Ramirez, I would keep going maybe. I ...

Re: THE RITA

The outlier nature of the Rita in today's conversation perhaps speaks to how diluted a lot of that original creative impulse has become as well as it does to the undeniable aesthetic vision of Sam McKinlay. You make some great points and articulate them far better than I could! I think this above s...

a lot of people in noise/industrial right now don't really understand synth architecture or how to "play" their synths. ^ Me for the last 6 years trying to figure out my MS-20 (and wishing those Behringer Roland Juno clones had been around because all I want to do is make John Carpenter t...

Been listening to Perverted Ceremony (BE) lately and this kinda black metal is for me. On another forum someone said: "They sound like Beherit thats bit too stoned!" and thats exactly what it sounds like haha! Lo-fi, bit all over the place, repetative, weird and what not. I love this band...
