Re: Canadian noise in decades past

Greenmist is a Canadian artist who was fairly active from 2005-2011 and worked with labels such as RRR, Chocolate Monk, Turgid Animal, and others. Toured with Wolf Eyes, collaborated with John Olson on a Green Palace release, which came out on American Tapes. A few years later, he was one-half of th...

Death Glaze has been pretty active despite not being around too long. He played a good set in Montreal last summer.

As a Wold super fan, I cannot allow this to go unacknowledged. Freermasonry was my favourite Wold album for a long time, but recently L.O.T.M.P. has been back on semi-regular rotation and is taking top spot these days.

Jute - Paranoid Attractor (New Forces) Purchased from the artist. This is awesome. Pulverizing distortion from mysterious sources that produce a wide variety of fascinating sounds. Cool to hear stereo panning used as an instrument, which makes for a rewarding listening experience in headphones. Def...

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching

Went to see the "final cut" version of Apocalypse Now in the theatre last night. Very different movie from the 1979 cut, which I think is my preference. The final version felt meandering and overly long. On Wednesday, I'm going to a different theatre to see a screening of Cassavetes' A Wom...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

The new Archgoat EP is good. Starts out pure black metal and then starts to incorporate some death metal parts by the second track, but each song has its own unique sound. It's actually pretty diverse for Archgoat. Hadn't listened to them since The Luciferian Crown, so I have some catching up to do.

Listening to Knurl 's Objective Constraint (Absurd Exposition, 2022) straight through for the third time. Can't believe this material went unreleased for so long. It's incredible. Also have been blasting Himukalt 's Sex Worker III (Total Black, 2022), which is different from her previous work. I lov...

Just got the Criterion Channel as a gift for my wife's birthday and watched Smooth Talk. Wow what an uncomfortable film. Amazingly directed. High brow cinematic types: give me some recommendations! I'm usually used to schlocky b-movie horror over the past while and maybe need a palate cleanser! If ...

I've enjoyed the Ferrera I've seen so far except for King of New York . Overacted to hell and it failed to draw me in emotionally like his other films have. Really dug his feature from a couple years ago called Siberia with Willem Dafoe in the lead once again. Some recent highlights: Duvidha (Kaul, ...

That sounds tough, and I'm sorry you're going through it. Do you have hook ups for psychiatry or other forms of support? A very close homie of mine lives with paranoid schizophrenia and he said it took a few years and a couple different med trials, but he's starting to feel a bit more centered these...

Haven't seen a lot of love for Rainbow Mirror in this thread and I'm curious why that is? I bought the 7xLP boxset when it was released and enjoyed the experience of just grabbing a random LP from the box and spending time with different parts of the album instead of listening sequentially. One of h...

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

eh, maybe my happiness doesn't matter I've been thinking about this in a more general sense over the past year, mostly in the context of my great-great grandparents, who were German farmers newly arrived in North America. Seems likely to me that their chief focus was not happiness, but survival. It...

Mothra - Doom Engine (Three Plugs, 2005) Amazing noise/industrial band featuring Masahiko Okubo of Linekraft. Heavy Neubaten vibes. Cool to hear the songs go from junk metal abuse to someone sparsely picking a bass guitar over feedback. Lots of diversity in sound and songwriting. Brighter Death Now...

Saw Vortex by Gaspar Noé on the movies this week. I'm a huge fan of his films, and even though I think he some times benefits, sometimes loses with the exploitation present in his cinema, this one was so precise, truthful and ultimately real that I finished watching the film literally speechless.
