Re: Now Playing
Finally bought a portable CD player so I could start making my way though all the CADRE CD's I'd purchased since 2020. Standouts so far have been Body Carve, Shanked, and Stroker.

Re: HEAT SIGNATURE - Brain On War C60 (Dada Drumming, 2021)
Appreciate this review! Altered States of Warfare is an absolute ripper, and I'm excited for a CD version of this release.

Re: Tab In/Tab Out, Computer, The Rita, The Nausea, Trauma Bonding - April 28th (review)
You are the second person here to say that new The Rita material/performance is "deconstructed." Could you give some more insight on what is meant by that? It sounds intriguing. I'd direct you to White Centipede Noise's podcast/interview with Sam/The Rita, where he speaks to his intention...

Re: Trends in Contemporary Noise (with Examples!)
No, this is exactly the kind of response I was hoping for! Oh, excellent. I'm really intrigued by this idea now; curious about fleshing it out w/r/t my personal approach and appreciation of noise. I would add to what I wrote above that more often than not multiple themes arise in individual project...

Re: Trends in Contemporary Noise (with Examples!)
For myself (and also for how I approach my own work) I often feel like modern noise can be broken down into a few distinct categories: - Personal -- relating to the self/consciousness/trauma (ex. Jason Crumer's final trilogy) - Socio-political -- often overlaps with 'personal' but with greater scope...

Re: Intentional clipping in pop music
at 1:26 https://youtu.be/Q2WBBcH6OPU to me this absolutely was pop music for the time even though the specific genre was country and western the story goes that there was a broken gain stage or something on that channel of the mixer but they just left it in Grew up listening to a lot of 50s and 60s...

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching
Watched Douglas Sirk's Written On The Wind (1956), an absolutely impeccable melodrama that was more visually striking than most anything I've seen that's come out in the past 10-15 years. Full of caustic, biting dialogue and so many sly double entendres. Looking forward to checking out more of Sirk...

Re: Intentional clipping in pop music
This is a very popular thing in (newer) rap, this seems to be just the sorta ripped off version. It stems from subwoofers ratting cars so much that the bass sounds distorted, or bass pushed to the limit in songs, to the point where producers just thought, fuck it, it sounds cool, so lets just produ...

Intentional clipping in pop music
I've been fascinated by what may or may not be a trend in recent pop music where distortion seems to clip out. Usually my first thought is that I'm listening via a streaming service (where the audio has already been compressed to hell), but I've found a few current examples where its obviously inten...

Standard Grey - Particular Sites and Species
Earlier this year I made a commitment to myself to listen to more new music in 2022 from Bandcamp, over Spotify. This was not necessarily a New Year’s resolution. (The ‘resolution,” if there ever was one, was to leave more capsule reviews on Bandcamp release pages for albums I enjoyed, and with rega...

Re: Religious noise, industrial, and related genres
I've been releasing harsh noise exploring American Evangelicalism under the name Lapsed Baptist since 2014. I grew up in a small-town, conservative church community, and was involved in church ministries into my early 20s, so my first noise releases utilized a lot of the ephemera I had from those ea...

Re: Books
Currently reading My Struggle (Book 1) by Karl Ove Knausgaard - my second genuine attempt. Still waiting to lock-in to its cadence. Recently completed A Confederacy of Dunces for the first time; not sure if I would have re-read it now if I had been required to read it in high school (which I wasn't)...

Re: Introduce yourself
Hello -- my name is Daniel, and I run the label Apneic Void Sounds out of (currently) Portland, OR. My current projects include Lapsed Baptist, no its becky, The Finsterwallies, and have recorded broken dark bedroom pop under the moniker troubled by insects for just over 15 years. Grateful for the n...
