Re: The Future of the physical format underground

Mainly some price banter here, which is a complex issue. As I see it, prices are generally too low or too high these days. Physical formats has to be seen as luxury items today and the underground culture haven't really been able to update itself towards factors as raised production and shipping cos...

Re: Abstract/Weird/Outer edges

Who wants to tackle Witcyst here!? Far from an expert (who is, really?), but the easy/boring answer would be that entry level Witcyst is the few more widely available albums (or "albums"). The Roslyn CD is kinda insane in how it blends blown out Root Don Lonie style rock with crude tape m...

Re: "Tastemakers" / Trusted Sources

Why does it move slower from another source? Another example is a "lesser known" (compared to Troniks) but still relatively established label, Ominous, that did a good quality and deserved reissue of perhaps the Black Leather Jesus classic ("A.N.T.I.") that seems to also have at...

Re: Field Recordings / Natural Sources

Two favorites of recent years that haven't got the attention they deserve: Andreas Oskar Hirsch – Row LP (Makiphon, 2017) I think it was Scott Foust that hyped this one up in a Swill Radio newsletter a couple of years ago? Based on recordings made on a lifeboat of a Dutch rowing team, lots of yellin...

Re: Edition Sizes

If you're a label, how do you gauge and decide how many copies of a certain release to make? Is the goal of releasing music to have it heard by as many interested people as possible, or something else? It totally depends on the actual recording and release. I don't think every release has to be ava...

Ah yeah, well those deals were sorted out prior to the annoucement of the record.

Re: Sewer Election & Charmaine Lee - Navigation I Inre Och Yttre Landskap LP

We didn't do much wholesale but check with these 6 distros that got wholesale copies! Uhm, not entirely sure what's your point here... We usually ship copies to at least 15 different places, way more on larger editions, this particular release sold pretty fast through direct mailorder so we sent ar...

We didn't do much wholesale on this but the copies we actually shipped have probably not even shown up yet so... Check with Penultimate Press, White Centipede Noise, Digital Regress, Grapefruit, Materia Prima, Soundohm.

Re: Advice for a newbie

As for digital/links etc, all valid points. Demos submitted as downloads, does anyone click on them, ever? I personally don't care for listening to stuff online at all with a few rare exceptions and are still baffled that people actually pays for digital files on Bandcamp etc. I guess it just takes ...

Re: Advice for a newbie

Throwing two controversial ones out there for discussion, I'm sick with covid so don't yell at me... In contrary to what other have said here, I would say do NOT try to master your equipment. Or at least do not rush it. The most interesting things always seems to come from the ones that have no fuck...

Re: Abstract/Weird/Outer edges

would love to know how they find/decide on the artists they put out that they don't personally know - a really vast catalog of artists on IDDB! Haha yeah... I have been receiving this question many times but I don't quite get it, isn't that what labels are supposed to do, seeking out awesome new mu...

Re: Advice for a newbie

It’s not making your recording sound better, that’s mixing, and is done by the artist. I agree with pretty much everything except this (re- mastering). It can make your recording sound both better and worse. Talking about SOUND, not SOUNDS here... It's generally hard to compare a vinyl master with ...
