Free (or Donation-Based) Mastering Services!

Howdy! My name is Devin Howe. I am a self-taught (and moderately serious) sound technician and recording engineer. Being that music is my passion and I am always looking for more projects to occupy myself (especially now, given some events in my life that I need to distract myself from), I wanted to...

Re: Best of Macronympha

Did anyone pick up the 3-CD "Whorechestra" reissue? Mine just arrived (with the bonus preorder shirt), and it both looks and sounds great! The original unreleased version of the tape is really interesting to compare next to what was actually released. Obviously, it still sounds like the &q...

Re: Noise Apparel

I'm gonna be printing some "Buyer's Market" shirts very soon from a high-resolution scan that I asked Solotroff to do for me. If you're interested, shoot me a message with your preferred size and color (I'm printing with black or white ink). I'm selling at-cost, so, assuming you're orderin...

Re: Project Feedback Thread

If i leave everything in the middle wont it basically just sound mono, though? Well, assuming that all of your tracks themselves are mono, yes. That is why I like to pan my tracks partially (say, 40%-60% right or left--not 100% to either side) so that they still feel centered, but the result is not...

Re: Project Feedback Thread

Feedback welcome. WIP. https://tinyurl.com/3uem3uwp Thank you. Hey, man. I just listened to some of your material, and I think you're definitely onto something. You have a decent palate of sounds and keep things interesting for the duration of the track(s) without becoming too self-indulgent. That ...

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

It's been a while since I've been on here. Time to post! I just recorded my first harsh noise wall track. I don't even really enjoy harsh noise wall. I definitely don't listen to much of it. There are releases here and there that I enjoy, but I definitely wouldn't consider myself a fan of the approa...

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

random question, but I don't feel like making noise rn, and I'm a bit worried I'm gonna forget how to. yes/no? I think it depends on a lot of different factors. I think many musicians would agree with me when I say that, if you've played something for a long time, you will probably never completely...

Re: Noise Apparel

(Again, nothing in my post is meant to be discouraging--noise shirts are too rare for me to ever seriously criticize them!) Oh, no, don't worry about it. I didn't take it personally at all! I gathered that it was just a personal preference, ha ha. I recall there being discussion in another thread(?...

Re: Noise Apparel

Though the current design you have is not to my taste, I would like to get a Whitehouse shirt at some point. What other designs do you have in the works? Not to your taste? Why is that? I'm curious. The next one I do will likely be a Deathpile shirt since the design I have in mind for it won't be d...

Re: Noise Apparel

I'm screen printing Whitehouse t-shirts for anyone who's interested. They're $10 shipped. Full disclosure, I'm a beginner screen printer, so the quality is questionable. I think I'm improving, though! I'm very proud of the design. I will be making more designs in the future, but it will admittedly b...

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

Hmm... I'm not sure which thread would be best to ask this, but I'll start here. Does anyone have a copy of Whitehouse's "Cream of the Second Coming"? I'm making a screen print design, and I want it to be the best it can be. The only images of the album cover (the whip on it, specifically)...

Re: (Potentially) "Problematic" Lyrics/Themes in Noise Music

Do you think there is value in artists discussing topics that they don't have first-hand experience with? I'd argue there is. I think it comes down to how it is done, though. For an example, I want to write about eating disorders--a subject that fascinates me. I, myself, do not suffer from an eating...

i think there are still plenty of shocking/scary/offensive topics to have edgy lyrics and themes about without being a lame fascist or punching down furthermore, does p.e. HAVE to offend someone? can't there be Power in a multitude of subject matters that aren't the same old tired tropes, what abou...

Re: (Potentially) "Problematic" Lyrics/Themes in Noise Music

It's kind of hard to think of actually transgressive subjects. A pro-animal abuse project? That would really unsettle folks, me included since i'm a bleeding heart animal activist type. Like, if you wanna elicit a response, choose something horrible that hasn't been done to death. That's what those...

Alright, I finally read through BOTH the entirety of the Dislikes/Turnoffs thread and this one, and I must apologize for this thread being somewhat redundant. That being said, I'm glad that people participating in this thread have started to get more at what I hoped with this thread. Sure, we can ta...

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

Fucking hell. I have so many things going on right now. My school offers seniors the opportunity to drop one (or two if you can convince them that you need twelve hours a week instead of six) in order to pursue a personal project for the last quarter of school. I was granted permission to drop two c...

(Potentially) "Problematic" Lyrics/Themes in Noise Music

This topic has always fascinated me (and, if I'm being honest, probably attracted me to the music a bit), so what are your thoughts? What are some artists who exhibit those themes? Why? Is it necessary? Does it impact your decisions to listen to certain projects? Is there a line to be drawn; if so, ...

Re: Noise Apparel

I wish someone would do a run of Whitehouse shirts. You know William sometimes sells official shirts from Susan Lawly, right? I think he just did one for Dedicated to Peter Kürten. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of shirts that are just album covers. The cover has to be really cool for me to be...

Noise Apparel

What do y'all typically wear on a day-to-day basis? How about when you go to events (concerts, parties/gatherings, etc.)? Also, if you have any wearable noise-related merchandise, do share. Personally, I always wear black jeans with a black leather belt. Often, I'll wear a black (sometimes white) ba...

I'm currently eyeing a 360 Systems Instant Reply for $55. It looks like a capable sorta sampler for noise (and the like), but I dunno if it's worth it considering that it can't play multiple samples at once... Thoughts? Advice?

Just my opinion : don't get too hung up on the whole analog vs digital thing. If it sounds good, it sounds good. Plus digital gear can sound absolutely fucking nasty if you circuit bend them right. Yo just because it's digital don't mean it's not awesome. Awesome lofi FX (20 bits, Midiverbs are 16 ...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

I just picked up a Quadraverb. I have mixed feelings about synthetic reverb in noise music, but maybe this could reveal some interesting sonic territory to me. Just messing around to become acquainted with it (having not yet read the manual), though, I got some neat sounds, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

Welp, I've hit yet another creative roadblock. I wanted to try to record a track, but I think I'm overthinking how I want to place microphones. I might also just be getting too bogged-down subconsciously trying to sound like early Whitehouse... I dunno. I've always had problems of not finishing my w...
