Hey, I'm not even saying I disagree with you on anything. These are very abstract concepts we're dealing here, I don't see why several different approaches could not be equally valid at the same time.

Re: Music and Noise
Sorry. That was more of a pedantic swipe at the "all intentional sound is music" idea, despite music (i.e., assembled noises) already being entirely dependent on constructs or manipulations versus inately material phenomenon which go on blindly, regardless of whether or not there's someth...

Re: Music and Noise
But sound for sound's sake is not sound for art's sake, though? I think one of the difficulties of noise music is that we very rarely actually hear the noise itself. I guess, then, that the soundcheck is probably more truly focused on the sounds themselves than the set itself! Hmmm yes. But the poi...

Yeah, but they also don’t exist independently for their own sake. They have a supporting role as part of a larger whole.Bubble-Congeries wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 7:47 pm Foley and live radio/theatre sound effects are not music, although intentional.

Re: Music and Noise
I guess I mean that "art for art's sake" (i.e. sound for sound's sake as being inherently musical) is a definite historical perspective on artistic/musical production, but I imagine that there could be cases of producing a sound for its own sake that do not result in the creation of music...

to walk the same rabbit hole in reverse, what if i find myself making what would normally be considered 'art' out of compulsion, in a joyless, mechanical, strictly productive way? is art inherently and necessarily frivolous; or, to put it in a slightly less confrontational way, is frivolity a neces...

Any sound produced for its own sake, rather than as a byproduct of some other activity, is music. https://youtu.be/hZDKZMi--U0?si=QZTCwH1iXFJxV91l here's a clip of Amek-Maj show at Oulu. at 0:40 you can see him dislocating his shoulder. After that it was pretty hard to watch but an amazing show still! Huh! I wasn't even aware that a recording existed of this. As for the actual topic here, well ...
Re: Books
Has anyone read The Imago Sequence and Other Stories by Laird Barron? The author comes recommended based on what I'm reading currently. I've read almost all his stuff up to the collection Swift to Chase (which was garbage imo). He's ok. Definitely just simple entertainment without much in the way d...

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching
Sometime ago in this thread there was some discussion about movies/TV shows set in restaurants (and also in other places of employment). Again, not having experience of restaurant work myself, I cannot say for sure if this really is realistic, but The Boiling Point from 2021 rings true to me. Starri...

I've seen Merzbow with Balazs Pandi (sp?). I didn't get the point, to be honest. I'm not even that crazy about drum machines in noise. Not my thing, but I remain open to being proven wrong.

Bring a suitcase full of bricks to your gig. Put these under the table legs before setup. Problem solved.

a pivoting lever that would allow a needle to rise up and scratch across the device or retract it to hit the mini cymbal. Re: Dream gear and future innovations
It'd be great if someone designed a patchbay system specifically for pedals... some kind of customizable snake with DB25 connectors to the rear and a standard 1/4" (or even better for # of patch points and lighter weight all around: 3.5mm) patching interface on the front. I've had ideas for so...

Re: Dream gear and future innovations
Yeah, pedalboards is another solution I've tried. To get all the gear I need attached to just one, it would have to be gigantic, lmost impossible to maneuver with one arm. I've also tried tried two smaller ones, which is better. But still not quite ideal! The search continues, in other words. :)

Lightweight but durable case for noise_gear. Something that doesn't weight as much as I do, and something I can attach my gear to, already connectd to each other. Guitar/keyboard cases all have downsides that I can't get past. Theres a guy on Instagram called "noise.rambler"? search it ou...
