Re: Books
Has anyone read The Imago Sequence and Other Stories by Laird Barron? The author comes recommended based on what I'm reading currently. I've read almost all his stuff up to the collection Swift to Chase (which was garbage imo). He's ok. Definitely just simple entertainment without much in the way d...

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching
Sometime ago in this thread there was some discussion about movies/TV shows set in restaurants (and also in other places of employment). Again, not having experience of restaurant work myself, I cannot say for sure if this really is realistic, but The Boiling Point from 2021 rings true to me. Starri...

I've seen Merzbow with Balazs Pandi (sp?). I didn't get the point, to be honest. I'm not even that crazy about drum machines in noise. Not my thing, but I remain open to being proven wrong.

Bring a suitcase full of bricks to your gig. Put these under the table legs before setup. Problem solved.

a pivoting lever that would allow a needle to rise up and scratch across the device or retract it to hit the mini cymbal. The hardest part is not having the vocabulary for the parts I need (knowing what they are called). I've spent more time searching online using different terms for what I'm looki...

Re: Dream gear and future innovations
It'd be great if someone designed a patchbay system specifically for pedals... some kind of customizable snake with DB25 connectors to the rear and a standard 1/4" (or even better for # of patch points and lighter weight all around: 3.5mm) patching interface on the front. I've had ideas for so...

Re: Dream gear and future innovations
Yeah, pedalboards is another solution I've tried. To get all the gear I need attached to just one, it would have to be gigantic, lmost impossible to maneuver with one arm. I've also tried tried two smaller ones, which is better. But still not quite ideal! The search continues, in other words. :)

Lightweight but durable case for noise_gear. Something that doesn't weight as much as I do, and something I can attach my gear to, already connectd to each other. Guitar/keyboard cases all have downsides that I can't get past. Theres a guy on Instagram called "noise.rambler"? search it ou...

Re: Dream gear and future innovations
Perhaps this won't be useful to you, but I found a Hitachi power tool case on a curb that has worked really well for me... It's basically the perfect size for standard pedals. I cut out the inner plastic molding with a razor and it's a little wobbly and the lid sits slightly askew as a result, but ...

New Pharmacist has Andrew Lee on solos and he rips it up. It sounds like if Necrotism was better. The drum programming is improved, too. https://pharmacistgore.bandcamp.com/album/flourishing-extremities-on-unspoiled-mental-grounds This band is almost too good for their own good. It makes total sens...

The only way this comment would make sense to me is if every artist in that show based their set around samplers, drum machine etc, programmed intte most perfunctory way. Which I’m guessing wasn’t the case?

The Bear - really good! I liked it. I don't know why kitchen culture is just people yelling but this was excellent. ... The kitchen scenes are basically Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential in filmed form. I'm pretty sure that's where this all comes from. I've never worked in restaurants and don't know ...

. There's a Namanax track on the Gummo soundtrack, isn't there? Haha. It’s been half a lifetime since I’ve seen this movie. I recall Absu and Mystifier being in there. I wouldn’t have recognized any particular noise artists or tracks at the time anyway. But yes, I looked it up and you’re right.

W (2022) by Anna Eriksson has industrial/ambient soundtrack. Anna Eriksson is the leading elitist in Finnish movie scene right now Ville from Vapaakaupunki went to see it. He was the only person in the theater! but is there any harsh noise in movies? It seems there’s surprisingly little. But if you...

Re: noise as soundtrack on films?
Tetsuo comes pretty close at least. Some kind of noisy, clangy, metallic industrial. Mark Korven’s work on the Witch , Lighthouse etc. soundtracks isn’t exactly noise either, but is also something like it. This custom-made instrument of his will immediately seem familiar to many here, I bet: https:...

We'll see. The last 2-3 shows at Redi have gone so well that it's felt like this is too good to last. The rising visibility and profile was sure to attract unwanred attention from people who spend their time on social media looking for things to cancel, and now that's happened. As usual, they approa...
