Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching
Several great nights at the cinema. Past couple months have been slow going for me when it comes to film watching. This year started off far too busy with the distro and related activities to do much else, but getting back in the groove now. Did you catch all of these in a theater? Just the spaghet...

Re: Music and Noise
Hey, I'm not even saying I disagree with you on anything. These are very abstract concepts we're dealing here, I don't see why several different approaches could not be equally valid at the same time. Exactly---there should probably be as many approaches/answers as possible, to better match the con...

Re: Music and Noise
But sound for sound's sake is not sound for art's sake, though? I think one of the difficulties of noise music is that we very rarely actually hear the noise itself. I guess, then, that the soundcheck is probably more truly focused on the sounds themselves than the set itself! Hmmm yes. But the poi...

Re: Music and Noise
I guess I mean that "art for art's sake" (i.e. sound for sound's sake as being inherently musical) is a definite historical perspective on artistic/musical production, but I imagine that there could be cases of producing a sound for its own sake that do not result in the creation of music...

Any sound produced for its own sake, rather than as a byproduct of some other activity, is music. If you are beating a brick wall with a sledgehammer because it's your job to demolish it, you're not making music. If you are beating a brick wall with a sledgehammer because you like the way it sounds...

Re: old world problems
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I picked up some blank 30 second tapes and couldn’t figure out why they weren’t working. I even took apart my little recorder to find out if that was the problem. The tabs never even came to mind because why would blank tapes be missing the tabs? Where did yo...

Cryptic Carousel had a bunch of them for $1 each so I picked up ten for the hell of it.

Re: Project Feedback Thread
Here is something I did a while ago. It was supposed to be released on a comp CD, but that project seems to have been dropped by the guy organizing it. I would very much appreciate any thoughts. https://soundcloud.com/decrepitude_related/songbird-lust-murder-box?si=551fe4a0aad54cccaf249108feb00831&...

Re: Introduce yourself
Thanks for the warm welcome. Are you in a project, I don’t book very often but that might change. But likewise, if you play out in Los Angeles, lemme know. *Aside* anyone who books in San Diego, I’d love to play. I’ve approached Stay Strange in the past but haven’t heard back from them recently. Re: Introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Ryan aka Insufficient Despair. I'm based in Torrance, California. I don't have any formal releases yet. Been enjoying the ride going to and playing shows, sometimes booking one here or there. You're not too far from me, all things considered. Post if you come do a show down here in San Diego!
Re: Neofolk
I've been spending time with Current 93's The Light is Leaving Us All over the past week or so and I feel like I've finally unlocked it. I think I'd previously always gone to it while deep in a C93 hole where it couldn't stand up to the formidable albums of the 90s, but it's revealed itself to be a...

I guess it makes sense. Siikala's art is like a more misanthropic version of early Harmony Korine. Maybe. check out Kalervo Palsa! https://www.kansallisgalleria.fi/fi/object/598816 https://www.kansallisgalleria.fi/fi/object/612944 https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiedosto:Palsa,_Kullervo_1983.jpg Ha--...

SS1535, aside from the importance of his art he's been such a positive force in my life and in the lives of others I know. So happy to see the fundraiser meet and exceed the goals and thank you for your contribution! And I only spoke to him for 45min before a show/some minor correspondence! I can't...

Re: Cut Up
Has anyone tried to do cutup with a sequencer? I've done some with sp303 and the Korg sq-1. Great results with sq-1 ramdom pattern midi -> sampler. The SQ-1 is what I have, and the random pattern seems to work very well for this sort of thing. Putting it into a sampler is a very good idea!

Re: Cut Up
well theres a bunch of methods to use a sequencer to produce noise, but a lot depends on what kind of sequencer you use for what setup of course. i used a lot of shit over ther years. the sequencer of an elektron machinedrum, standalone sequencers, eurorack sequencers, sample&hold modules as se...
