Re: Hospital/NWN Fest in Osaka / Machine Parts in Tokyo

Hoping to ask a couple of questions about Ochiai Soup since we're talking about it (kind of). I'm gonna be there with a disabled person who deals with limited mobility. Nothing that will stop us getting there and negotiating some stairs but still a thing that'll mark how we travel and that we need ...

I have at least two or three record stores in Osaka that are off the usual beaten path for you.

Re: Introduce yourself

Hello, and thanks for the kind words. I was lucky enough to stumble into the Japanese scene and discover how amazing everyone was, from which point on I tried to help however I could to spread the word. I was able to set up Zeni Geva's first show in SF (with Pain Teens, and Neurosis opening for the...

The very first time I saw Hijokaidan live (aside from a warehouse set played with them) was with a drummer, and it was amazing. Hiroshi from CCCC/Astro played drums with them. It was in Tokyo, if I remember correctly at the La Mama live house. I like the propulsion that drums can give to them, espe...

Personal favorite has to be Future Cheers, it’s been reissued twice that I’m aware of and I think I like the sonic quality of the Troniks/Helicopter CD the best of all. I’d definitely seek out These Things Happen Volumes 1&2 CDs everything about this collection is superb, if someone needed a jum...

Re: Hijokaidan YOLO Thread

Not to change the subject with the third post, but your comment makes me think of The Gerogerigegege---a group that, on the one hand, seems so important, yet is, on the other, seemingly neglected in western distros/reissue labels. I guess, overall, it is another annoying reminded of just how niche ...

Re: Travelling overseas for a noise show? Who's dunnit?

Maybe something else to consider for anyone who’s mostly noise inclined on their first trip to Japan is noise venue experience, the Osaka show at Gorilla Hall occupancy is 1300 and will undoubtedly be great sound and lighting, great sight lines etc. But if you have the opportunity to check out Namba...

Re: Travelling overseas for a noise show? Who's dunnit?

You can also mail things back to yourself, shipping from Japan to the US way more reasonable than US to Japan. Most post offices have staff who are helpful and you can purchase any box(es) you’d need there all reasonably priced versus extra change from an airline. This is real helpful, thanks Matt!...

Just watched their most recent live performance on youtube from Japan. The Japanese noise scene looks hoppin' and incredibly courteous. Years ago, via Nihilist Spasm Band’s Bill Exley, I was given to understand that Mikawa was quite the James Joyce aficionado. (Again, yeeeears ago so take this with the requisite heft dose of sodium chloride.) I never followed up on this little nugget, but more recently found that it’s entirely poss...
