Re: Seeing & Hearing

I much prefer "organic" noise shows where I can see the performer engaging with their instruments, but it also has a lot to do with how they're doing it. Laptops aren't interesting at all; I might as well be at home listening. Someone playing an instrument -- be it a sheet a metal, a guita...

I'm not sure who shot that video but there's a good chance it was Gabriel from Amoeba, who recorded a bunch of shows around that time...

Re: Introduce yourself

Ongaku Ontaku shld come back to print, Mason, in a better world this wld be. Well, I'm not likely to ever do new issues, but I would like to collect the original four into a book. One of these days I'll get the issues scanned in high-res and see what might be possible. Unfortunately I only have a s...

Re: Introduce yourself

Oh Snap!! That was literally right as I was getting everything together in my life to go on tour & then stay in Oakland, moving there from La Habra/Fullerton. That’s how I missed that. Dambit!! But now I gotta know when the Solmania Masonna show was at Anomalous. I’ll ask Eric. That was probabl...

Re: Introduce yourself

Hello, and thanks for the kind words. I was lucky enough to stumble into the Japanese scene and discover how amazing everyone was, from which point on I tried to help however I could to spread the word. I was able to set up Zeni Geva's first show in SF (with Pain Teens, and Neurosis opening for the...

Re: Hijokaidan YOLO Thread

This one was in 1992. I feel like it was at La Mama but I'm not sure. I'd have to check my diary from back then! Marble Sheep also played, oddly enough, and the group I was playing with at the time (Torture Chorus). The very first time I saw Hijokaidan live (aside from a warehouse set played with th...

Re: Hijokaidan YOLO Thread

The very first time I saw Hijokaidan live (aside from a warehouse set played with them) was with a drummer, and it was amazing. Hiroshi from CCCC/Astro played drums with them. It was in Tokyo, if I remember correctly at the La Mama live house. I like the propulsion that drums can give to them, espec...
