Re: Cut Up
There are advantages and disadvantages to a huge pile of gear. I can speak as a massive setup guy that two samplers, eight pedals, a joystick and a mixer and four contact mic instruments allows for a huge amount of performative flexibility and lets me play everything live without edits but even the ...

Re: Cut Up
Hey folks. Alex here. Boar is my project mainly focusing on cutup. Peyote tapes just put out the Boar/Kazumoto Endo 12”(I’ll post the link to that in the new release section sometime soon). I also run a label breaching static which also frequents cutup. https://boarnoise.bandcamp.com/ https://breac...

Re: Cut Up
SBTDOH and Maltreatment both rule as well. Very much worth checking out. Can’t forget to mention NBDY either although Sam already did, NBDY is not to be missed.

Re: Production Techniques
I use the cheapest presonus audio box and the free presonus studio one software it came with. I run the main outs from my 12 channel mackie mixer into that and I have always had extremely high quality audio with zero issues. I’m absolutely not a DAW guy by any measure but also I’m not a 4 track pers...

Re: Edition Sizes
I am firmly behind the notion that if you’re putting out a tape for me, it should be as close to meeting the demand as you’re able to get. I completely understand if it’s a new project or a new label doing something like 25-35 copies because you can’t predict demand for something that people aren’t ...

Yeah and if you’re concerned about it you can always chop stuff up pitch it, process it, etc. so it’s not even applicable to that level of scrutiny anyway

Re: Cut Up
Hell yes let’s goooooooooooo My HN project is cutup and I go by Peace Doctrine. I had three releases last year including a split with the mighty Vomit Arsonist and one on pressortape. I use two samplers and a joystick simultaneously but it’s kind of a mess. I’m going to try to use a simpler rig one ...

Re: Self Releasing/Starting Labels
yeah but if you DO then you should get other people to do it, that's exactly my point. Misery Engine has done seven tapes in two years all on other people's labels. I definitely meant to start this topic as a general discussion for anyone interested. I plan to do a couple self releases just because...

Re: Self Releasing/Starting Labels
I plan on self releasing a couple of things this year and while I grasp the concepts of duplication shipping selling physicals etc. i have absolutely no idea how to properly lay out a j card.
I have gimp and I’m pretty inept at it. Can anyone advise me or give me some help?

Self Releasing/Starting Labels
Surprising nobody started this one yet but I figure I have some questions so here we are.
Let’s talk about self releasing, starting and maintaining a label, the financial and etiquette concerns associated with doing these things and so on.

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
Just quote me for all the 404 or elektron related questions I can talk about that stuff all day. Also, I’ll add that I also think the DOD carcosa is a hugely undervalued pedal. That thing absolutely rips.

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I shouldn’t say I do none of those. I actually do all of them but what I mean by that is I’m rarely bothered enough by a click or a skip to change it. I think some of the best loop based heavy electronics recordings leave that stuff in so why wouldn’t I unless it was extremely egregious.

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
Coming back to the SP-404, does anyone else have problems with it clicking when playing loops? If so do you have any tips on how to get around it? Loops clicking means you’re cutting off the waveform at too high or too low a peak so like if the waveform looks like this: /\/\/\ you’re cutting it off...

Re: Time
I’m with Remi here. I have a full time job and a family plus a pretty packed recording/release schedule. I try to listen to as much as I can and I don’t fret about what I miss out on. I do, however, continue to buy tapes and records as I want to. I’ll get to them when I get to them and if they pile ...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
Last purchase was a boss rps-10, pitch-shifter with an eternal audio in pitch control, pretty wild. Curious about the sp404 and what would make it so good for noise and PE ? I have a sp808 which is a much larger, clunkier and unfocused unit, yet with interesting features (mono synth and multi FX). ...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I preordered mine on October 14 and it seems that news just came out they may not ship til august. Guess I'll just have to play the waiting game, worth the wait anyway. Yeah I mean I’ve said it 1000 times already but to me it’s the only piece of gear you need to make PE/industrial/cutup if you get ...

Re: Differentiating Projects
Very similar situation for me too. Misery Engine releases are pretty diverse sounding but very much PE centralized. My other project (Peace Doctrine) is cut up harsh noise and I just don’t think it makes sense to put those two things together under the same name.

Re: Grindcore / Noisecore / Powerviolence / Gorenoise
I played guitar and did vocals in In Disgust. Currently guitar and vocals in Socioclast (hiatus not permanent). Grindcore is what brought me to PE/noise in the first place. Had absolutely no idea that was you. In Disgust was hard! Thank you so much, it definitely opened a lot of doors for me in thi...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
On the topic of gear, does anyone know of an estimated "release" date for the SP404MKII? Every place I've looked has them on backorder. The closest I could get to an actual date was from my local Guitar Center which said they would be in stock September 1st of this year at the earliest. I...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I’m gonna have to fire up my A4 and double check but I’m pretty puzzled right now! I do often layer a bunch of spread out oscillators and crank the filter OD so it can get muddy with a bunch of modulation but I don’t use a ton of modulation on my foundational sounds anyway. For high frequency and le...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
All of my current recordings are made with the same setup, which I feel I am intimately in touch with and understand really well. Elektron Digitone/Digitakt and an SP404. It’s not a likely setup for a PE/death industrial/whatever you want to call my sound but I just find that this rig is so flexibl...
