Re: Self Releasing/Starting Labels

I love tapes madly but there's no sense getting any of them pro-dubbed in big quantities nowadays considering you can produce pro-Cds for half of what they cost and sell these for twice as much. Yeah, you produce 200 CDs and not 80 or 100 tapes. But as a label it's your duty to make sure the artist ...

Re: Tinnitus

Regular tinnitus and permanent deafness here. I live in a world in which everything sounds muffled as if I were standing behind cotton walls, yet some frequencies can just start ringing and drive me insane but they usually show up when I feel physically exhausted. It's like having your audition proc...

I'm interested too! I got an SP404 a few weeks ago and I still struggle to record anything in it and play it back haha 😅

Re: Cut Up

I've seen people do cut-up noise with MPCs and SP404s.

I'm sure you could do the same thing with an Octatrack but the crossfader would hate you after a while (and I wouldn't want to break an Octatrack by going mental on the crossfader, to be quite honest.)

Shameful plug, but we recorded this EP last year and some of you may be interested (FFO: 90's Euro BM)

Cheers.

Re: The Future of the physical format underground

Tapes can be recycled and labels can do co-releases and split costs, with for instance one label being based on the American continent and the other in Europe, etc. That makes distribution easier and cheaper.

Re: The Great Format War

Weird packaging is a total no in my book by the way, as you can't store that stuff with everything else and it just takes too much space (and dust.) Keep your art that looks like garbage and/or clutter out of my clean shelves. You'd be missing on my magnum opus then ! Sorry about that. Your release...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

Gave Godkillers "The Rebirth Of The Middle Ages" a spin last night and I got to say I was blown away... similar to second wave norwegian black metal but with more symphonic elements, which aren't cheesy at all. the keys complement the guitars well and the melodies are really immersive, wi...

Re: The Great Format War

I LOVE tapes, I have a stupid amount of overflowing drawers filled with tapes. I also love vinyls but not too much for noise for some reason. I often feel like noise artworks are lacking so I'll only buy noise LPs for some particular artists I really like. Weird packaging is a total no in my book by...

Re: (Potentially) "Problematic" Lyrics/Themes in Noise Music

May I suggest the last Con-Dom album as fairly brutal in a non-provocative-yet-shoving-reality-in-your-face way? It resonates with me even harder lately as a massive scandal erupted in France a few weeks regarding institutional maltreatment of elderly people in retirement homes. And on the other end...

Re: (Potentially) "Problematic" Lyrics/Themes in Noise Music

At this point the topic has been worn down so much as to be crystalline. Throbbing Gristle, The Grey Wolves, Ramleh...etc were mostly just left wing oddballs that deliberately muddied up their agenda in a time when it was more dangerous from a personal, artistic, and often legal perspective... etc ...

Re: (Potentially) "Problematic" Lyrics/Themes in Noise Music

I think it is a mistake to look to/think about XE in any sort of social context or as trying to invite a certain response (from critics or fans), as that is not the intent whatsoever. As he said in an interview, the project is not only non-political, but totally personal. That's like, the most ridi...

Re: Noise Artists: What are you doing and what's on your mind RIGHT NOW?

Good luck with your release and I hope le Pen loses. Le Pen did lose but we were caught between a rock and a hard place, to be quite honest. What's on my mind RIGHT NOW is taking a 5-minute break from work because my executive functions are also seriously dysfunctional and I'm mentally exhausted no...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

And I have yet to find current BM bands that are exciting to my ears. I've been having some of the same issues, I don't know if I've become jaded, or black metal has become worse? Probably the former. I really like the new Warloghe, though. Still, nothing that compares to the classics from a few ye...

Re: Modular Noise

I highly agree with Attila above. There's no better school to achieve harsher sounds and to be honest, I think a lot eurorack users use modules that draw their functionalities from the West Coast school without even noticing it (like Maths, if you use it for more things than a simple lfo for instanc...

Re: Modular Noise

I think that's because eurorack focuses a lot more on complex sounds by default nowadays. Like,, it's the next step to be able to create an even wider palette of sounds after using regular hardware synths. Say, you have a Monopoly synth, and you want to get wilder, so you get into modular synths, an...

Re: Modular Noise

Also, while we're at it, I'm wary of modules that are too complex. It's especially the case in the Euro world where makers sell you pretty much full-voice modules or modules packed with so many functionalities or parameters to mess with it makes it harder to understand what it is that you're doing t...

Re: Modular Noise

Feedback is my main way of patching, mostly because I've hardly touched my Euro rig since went 4u a year ago. I don't have any oscillator in my current boat (it should change soon) so I push cycling envelopes into audio rate, I make my filter go resonant, I make my Res EQ feedback (I believe the R*S...

Re: Dislikes and instant turnoffs

”fascism” seems misunderstood. To me it simply seems like an extreme form of provocation and transgression. But as in really provocative and transgressive, kinda like the upside down crosses that are now mandatory on the covers of metal albums were ahocking 40 years ago. this framing is a "tur...
