Re: K2

While I have dipped into this project in the past, I have not taken any sort of deep dive. What albums are the most important/best? I'm missing a few of the classic era albums, but out of the stuff I have, Autopsy Soundtrakks (industrial, dark ambient), Tekhnodrug (psychout industrial of sorts) and...

MERZBOW - Aqua Necromancer DLP (Absurd Exposition, 2022) Been nagging loudly about vinyl reissues of old CD albums, especially where new/old stuff has been shoved right into the middle of the original tracklist. But here I am, enjoying this with no complaints whatsoever. Guess I'll just shut it in ...

Re: Star - Elephant in the Snow (2CD) - Hospital Productions

I think all Star releases have been rather baffling in their own ways. Knowing the man a bit makes them slightly less so though. Not that they'll ever be easy to describe or understand (as if there was some message to be deciphered), but they're very much "him". As for this 2CD, what's new...

Totally enamored might be a stretch, but long term big fan of Zone Nord and The New Blockaders. Hints here and there as to who they are, but I don't think they've ever been completely outed? Haven't dug much myself, not sure I want to know too much. The secrecy has definitely served both projects. ...

DOG HOLOCAUST - Vol. I C30 (Harsh Head Rituals, 2006) The good Ilari write about Edwige on the WCN discord and I came to think of the first three Dog Holocaust tapes, collecting dust here. Popped them in and was just as blown to shits as I was last time (years ago). Volume one stands out as the raw...

Berberian Sound Studio features a number of improv and sound art guys on and off camera. Main character is partially based on Adam Bohman and the Bohman Bros themselves even make a brief cameo. No shit?? I saw the film when it came out, and loved it, but had no idea what Bohman looked like back the...

I'm sure I've read it many years ago somewhere, but someone please remind me; what was supposed to be in that Trash Ritual box set? The three 6xC46 boxes Stella released years ago are great, and I'm wondering if that was it? Mostly unreleased and some just super rare old recordings. It's not all zen...

Two s/sided C60s while the kiddo takes a nap. V/A - HTW (Hatband, 2002) Solid old compilation featuring Ochu, Drone Lebanon, Taint, Irgun Zwai Leumi, Green Army Fraction, Treriksröset, something written in runic and Proiekt Hat. BREAKING THE WILL - Mortal Terrain Incendiary CD (New Forces, 2020) Stuck my hand in the towering pile of unlistened CDs and randomly picked this out. Now, besides maybe a compilation track, the only BTW I had heard prior to this was the Choosing Death CD (Terror & NArcolepsia, 2015). My memory...

Re: What Makes for a Good Collaboration?

When I collaborate by mail/email, it's just like you say; sending files back and forth. It works well when the chemistry is good, really. Working with someone I know well who knows my preferences and my methods well. Crucial though is to not send material that is cluttered or too dense, or sort of c...

The Humectant Interruption & Crank Sturgeon collab tape on Spite from 1998(?) has sounds of Joel's (Humectant) parents arguing. That and lots of radio buzz. Superb noise tape which kinda qualifies for this thread.

Re: Underrated and under hyped projects

The Swedish project BAD KHARMA is probably most known for his collabs with Marhaug in the 2000's and his ambient work. But this 4xCS box, https://www.discogs.com/release/1166135-Bad-Kharma-96-98, contains some seriously great inventive tape loop-based harsh noise. Both old americanoise and Vivenza:e...

Five favorites off the top of my head (but there's so much more, of course) De Haters C60 (Bloedvlag Produkt, 1986) - All the usual early ingredients (glass breaking, explosions etc), but mixed exceptionally well. Full use of stereo, high impact bombardment. Tractor LP (Big Body Parts, 1988) -Being ...

Jason Zeh is a favorite. Tape as source while literally torturing the tape, what's not to like? Very different from alot of what has been mentioned here so far though. My favorite is probably the LP on Crippled Intellect, A Vacant Lot To Be In , and the CD on the same label, Heraclitus . A decade s...

I've actually only read him in swedish, so I just picked the english title for Skogshuggning (Woodcutting) that I knew. Some of those novellas are very different, yeah. Well, there is so much of this that it's hard to know where to begin. Good examples above! And Testicle Hazard (Marhaug + Keränen) has maintained a jovial and cheerful air from the very beginning, in sound and even more so in imagery and themes. The 7" on Wendy, the CD on PACrec/Troniks and the...
