Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching

Watched "Z" by Costa-Gavras a few nights ago. Had heard of it for years but had never seen it. Excellent blend of political assassination, state repression and police procedural. Soundtrack is excellent as well.

Ah, it was 2007 then, I had my years all muddled! I saw them at the Northampton show and I think that's actually where I picked up the 3" from you directly at the merch booth. It was an excellent gig and still remember it very well. Jay Randall also supported performing a solo set. .... and we...

Re: Bastard Noise

One release that I love for both the music and the attention to the packaging is a little 3" CD of reissued material. The "Three Dollar Date + Microscopic Malediction" on Housepig was so well done. Carefully assembled and hand crafted in paper packaging with awesome little inserts, a...

Re: The Future of the physical format underground

One has to wonder, should we pull ourselves out of this fixation on physical media (I’m as guilty as anyone) but how much of my “fun money” goes to shipping agencies, ULine and the GZ record plant rather than the noise crew? Imagine every record I buy the artist gets (hypothetically) $2, Canada Pos...

Do you have any reference for learning soldering then? best advice I got on soldering (after 20 years of doing it wrong) - you're not melting the solder onto the joint; you're heating the joint, and the solder will flow onto it. hold your iron to the point you want to solder, count to three, then t...

just finished "art sex music" by cosey fanni tutti. highly recommended. really made me rethink my stance on GPO. Same! My bandmate gifted me an extra copy that he had ended up with, and I tore through it in about three days. Definitely made me realize that the lion's share of my TG etc in...

it leads me to the next point, which is in support of "splinter cell" DIY-hosting: Spotify and Bandcamp can remove anything they deem unfavourable in the blink of an eye... it is a useful point when considering the reliance on these platforms: there is no guarantee of permanence. YEP. The...

Re: The Future of the physical format underground

If the point is to get the audio material out there, then, at the end of the day, by any means necessary should be all it takes. To me, this is the point. The older I get, the less and less I'm interested in format fetishism; what is the sound? I can appreciate that for some artists the inherent qu...

watched this today: https://youtu.be/cD9nvm5EGPg Filmed in 1984 but never completed due to the original distributor going bankrupt, it sat in storage for 37 years until Vinegar Syndrome bought the assets... which didn't include audio tracks or a script, just 8 hours of film. So they sorted it out, g...

Made me think of this classic, totally worth it if you've never seen:

Having played a show where we were paid in change from the door money, I was well prepared in advance from seeing this on Night Flight a few years earlier.

Re: Music documentaries/movies

Perhaps the forum can help me with a long term thing I've been trying to find with no luck. I read on some forum years ago of a documentary centred around the autistic/OCD bassist (I think) and leader of a prog metal band who drives trucks to earn a living, convinced his band are on the tip of maki...

he's a completist, he and another friend put together the "No Skull Left Unturned" box set, and they've been much more active about tracking down every little thing, whereas I'm not quite as obsessive about stuff I missed. I still need the "Nazi Drunks" LP myself! :)

BN can be very different depending on who Wood is collaborating with at any given time; releases like "A Culture Of Monsters" or "Skulldozer" have more of a traditional musical vibe as he's playing bass as well as noise devices, and collaborating with Connell from Man Is The Bast...
