Re: Project Feedback Thread

New track I recorded yesterday If I may, that's a beginner mistake. Hardly anyone, especially newcomers, get the right recording in one take, or even in a few hours, and can say the next day that it's good. Nowadays, with so many talented artists who put out amazingly produced or thought-out record...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

Been working on 4 different projects at once lately so here's all I'm using at the moment. There's some other gear scattered in the room but I'm not using it right now.

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

Favourite distortion is overloading tape decks or mixers inputs. I personally don't use distortion pedals for my noise.

Re: Regional Sound

Hahaha. Of cours I know Simon. He comes from the village next to where my mom lives. I've seen Olivier a few times but we can't say we know eachother. We share common friends though. I remember gigs in La Centrale and I believe that the ones in Bègles happened in a squat (l'Oukaze?) If yes they didn...

Re: Regional Sound

It might require pulling back a couple layers to detect them, and these identifiers would still only exist in pockets/regions, attributed to the vibrancy of their local scene, local record shop, prominence of local projects, etc. there are some parts of France with that configuration, mostly the ce...

Re: Contemporary Classical / Ambient Classical / etc

I love Eliane Radigue. A few years ago, a friend and I were working in a call centre and he stumbled upon her number by chance. She picked up and at the end fo the conversation he did something we weren't allowed to do, which is asking her if she was the composer. She was surprised he knew who she w...

Re: DOGMATICS IN OUTLINE - new releases fr Cryptofascisme, Idler, Publication Ban

Take note, people! Do not miss out on the Cryptofascisme double. Fantastic industrial that actually manages to convey its theme. If the documentary Threads was converted into an industrial cassette, this would be it. Thank you so much Erik. I actually think about this documentary pretty often. I wa...

Re: DOGMATICS IN OUTLINE - new releases fr Cryptofascisme, Idler, Publication Ban

As a side-note, that Cryptofascisme tape is actually a double release because Part 1 was selfreleased before but Part 2 never did. As both share the same theme (French nuclear tests in far-away territories from the 60's til the 90's), it made more sense to have them come out together in a single pac...

Vulgar Nausea - a bunch of releases Their side of the split tape with Dèche-Charge is some of my favourite noise EVER. Wow. While I do like it, I thought their other material that I heard was better... Well, they released a lot of stuff but that was the tape that did it the most for ms I guess.

Re: Underrated and under hyped projects

I think where Umpio really shines, and what sets him apart in addition to being an amazing creative mind, is his sound engineering skills. His recordings are incredible.

And while we're at it, I hear there's some new Kartio material in the works.

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

I bought an Octatrack almost two years ago and still haven´t learn in. The first thing i did was too erase the whole memory andall the sounds on it. I use it sometimes but more of a recording tool/effect. The first months i read alott about it and looked at tutorials and tried different things but ...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

I wish I had an Octatrack but can't have them all, haha. I'm waiting to see how much my upcoming Serge boat is going to cost me and then I'll get an SP404. Ultimately, setups are super personal. A friend of mine who makes incredible library music using mostly modular stuff in terms of synths swears ...

Moss Harvest - Infra His latest work on buried in slag and debris, sounding a bit less "washed-up" than former releases, still excellent. It's amazing how hi-fi his tapeloops sound to be honest. I wonder if that's all post-production. Yeah, I've been intrigued for a long time about it. I ...

Re: Forgotten noises from the entrails of the vault

Kei from Outermost is a legend for sure. I love everything he does, Outermost, Deadly Verity, Scab, etc. Very creative artist, extremely discrete and low key as well, and his label Cat Move is great. An RT Dept discography lp came out recently. That's a kind of one-man-weird-punk-noise project he d...

Blah blah blah
Also very important things for an artist to be aware of. Some labels definitely have goofy ass backwards practices and attitudes, even the "cool" ones, but that's a whole different thread.

Re: Advice for a newbie

Oh, and while we're at it... Sometimes a label will be keen on releasing your stuff. It may even be a "cool" label. But they might also be used to making things the way they like and push things onto you regarding your release. To me it even went to the point of them either mastering my st...

Newest BARSTOOL MOUNTAIN tape: amazing harsh textures. Perfect. WILL OVER MATTER "Visio Ja Toteutus" tape: I remember this came out a bit before FA began refusing WOM material because they didn't find it good enough. This tape is OK but I can see why FA would think that. Here we get really...

Re: Advice for a newbie

I've been trying to get into Reaper for editing (moving on from Audacity) so this will be helpful. Thank you! There's a DAW called Waveform (previously Tracktion) that I used for years, and I'm coming back to now that it's available on Linux, and the nice thing is when they roll out a new version, ...
