Re: Now Playing
I've been listening to the Austerity Measures tapes today, really digging the Nothing But Death (Richard Dunn/FFH) tape; PE using Pablo Neruda poetry as lyrics with instrumentals that remind me of "Against Ghettos Fragrant Gardens". Apologist tape is very pleasant, nice ambient synth work ...

Nightspore - Copper Mines Pretty goofy/energetic electro via Marco Del Rio. I love the drum machine sound he uses! Whip of the UFO - AFB Great stuff, feel like it went under the radar. Very cavernous low end with sizzling electronics over the top. Very moody. European Foul Brood prob fav track. http...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I have a drumbrute impact and love it. Fm drum is an immense noise generator, built in distortion is cool, and its super easy to get going given the simple analog interface. It pairs with most pedals very nicely too. A few of the drum sounds are kinda weak but Ive gotten a lot out of it.

Re: Field Recordings / Natural Sources
I have one of Steven McGreevy's ELF/VLF receivers and love it. What I really dig about it is that it's kind of impossible to use in so many places, you really have to be intentional about it. Like if I'm within 15 miles of power lines I just get ground hum, but out in the middle of the desert at daw...

I feel that. I'm a ben chasny / 6 organs fan, so I really appreciated his work on The Light... That said, yea, Black Ships is legit an all time great, I'd put it up there with any of the 90s records. These last few have felt a bit more slight, but maybe we'll get another ensemble monster at some poi...

Hospital Productions - Year of the Reaper mix. Killer material, I just wish it came with a tracklist! There's some really great almost martial industrial stuff on the first side and I can't put my finger on who it might be. Current 93 - If a City is Set Upon a Hill. A little more mellow than The Lig...

I have gotten 1 metric shit ton of stuff in the mail recently, see below: Jason Crumer - Thin Ice New full length from Crumer. Optimistic ambient with noise flourishes. Earnest and well constructed. Recommended if that sounds like your thing. Bold move and the pay off is worth it. Shredded Nerve - P...

Re: Japanese Noise / MO*TE
I think all the above artists mentioned are fantastic. I really enjoyed the Kazuya Ishigami CD on Dada Drumming last year too, sad to hear about his mother passing. New Astro tape on Absurd Exposition was excellent. I've been excited see Kazumoto Endo more active in the past few years...the split wi...

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
haha, I think there can be some mitigating factors on a lot of locals on a show (ex. a noisecore band that takes 5 minutes to set up an plays 7 minutes) but the WORST is when a local band takes 20+ minutes to get their gear set up. I played a show in Dec where one of the acts set up for 20, plays fo...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
Speaking of vintage EHX stuff, they just sent a note out that Russian tubes exports are basically drying up, and they're not going to be fulfilling any backorders....might be a good time to start hoarding tubes.
Re: Books
Currently reading "The Aesthetics of Resistance" by Peter Weiss; very awesome. Just like a massive stream of consciousness about a group of students resisting the Nazi party in Germany, but told in this kind of kaleidoscopic flurry of references to art, history, etc. I have to skim a bit b...

Mo*te rules and it's wild to see him so active again. I highly recommend the 4x CD Industrial Recollections comp; the collabo with Cracksteel is one of my all time favorites.

Re: Memories from shows
I was bombed out of my mind on acid at that hospital fest + having a gallbladder attack and it felt pretty appropriate; just like either, puking, tripping, or zoning out to harsh. That Skin Crime set hit me like a sack of bricks - I especially liked when the elevated subway blasted by the window mid...

Melting Plastic Head Core - "My Sweet Memory" Crack Fierce and Mo*te collaboration. Wild stuff! A side starts with heavy drones build to filthy sounding harsh tones. Something like vocals sprinkled throughout....whole thing feels like it's pushing into the red the entire time. B side is a...

Hospital Productions VA - Worldwide DIY Underground I really love this tape; tracks from Ames Sanglantes, Autoerotichrist, and Hermit. Powerful showings by all; this was a particularly good time for A.S. when you think about the run of Corruption Control Power Politic to this; massive noise but with...

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
yea I totally agree about the buried PE vocals thing. PE to me, is about replicating the experience of having someone getting in your face and just losing their shit, burying the vocals is such a weak move. I'd rather have quiet background and vocals just exploding vs the alternate. Also the obvious...

The Bekhira LP has been repressed by Impure Wedding. Some of the best French BM ever. http://www.impurewedding.com/products/718755-bekhira-lelu-du-mal-lp Otherwise been listening to Rattenfanger, Odelegger, Pathologist. newer Bone Awl, and some of those Moonblood demos. I really dig the Siegfried on...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD
I have a Metasonix TX-3 (the iCunt) and that thing puts out sounds I just can't get from anything else, amazingly versatile for something so unstable. It's a two tube feedback loop circuit that works as a noise maker unto itself, but also has CV + regular in for processing signals. It's got some qui...

Stress Orphan - Raid I haven't heard this project before but really enjoyed this tape. In and out, 10 minutes of very welll done power electronics. Forceful vocal performance and at 10 minutes it's the kind of thing you want to throw on again and again. I talked to a friend about how PE could use an...
Re: Classical
I have like, 10 classical mixtapes via http://www.nathanielmatthews.com/ (they're under the Crown Royal Chess Club Classical Compilations) - great stuff! His Til Helvete remix tape is great too but far far from classical. Also a big opera fan, my friend Raven won rave reviews for this piece of which...

Re: Shows that you missed
The most depressing thread on this forum lol I had tickets for Current 93 and Genocide Organ in April of '19. We all know how that went....glad I'll be able to see Current 93 this Halloween tho! I once bailed on a Nautical Almanac show years ago cuz I got a flat on the way to the venue, that bummed ...
