Re: Underrated and under hyped projects

Mass Marriage. People like her stuff but I'm convinced she's a genius and underappreciated as a unique voice in heavy electronics, from sound to visuals to overall aesthetic and vibe. I LOVE Mel's work. I interviewed her recently and she was such a lovely person to chat with. I have a few wants fro...

Re: Underrated and under hyped projects

Defektro is Australia's finest, flat out. While his work as a pedal maker is revered with Lastgasp Art Labs , I feel like I have never heard any prominent discussion of his noise. I have a 7" that I haven't gone back to in a long time (Hard Luck Heart? I think) that I'll have to pull out this ...

Re: General release questions/Collector scum circle jerk

This is not noise related but I just found out the Heresy/Concrete Sox LP comes with an insert and mine doesn't and I've had it for 25 years without this knowledge and now I apparently want to buy a second copy with an insert. What a dumb hobby!!

Re: Punk/Hardcore

Speaking of Dropdead, I picked up the Exploding Corpse Action LP on Armageddon recently, featuring Devon from Monster X and damn that shit was GREAT. Like seriously great, raw with some serious riffs. Went through the Monster X 7" and those fucking ruled too.

Re: Comic Books, Graphic Novels, Trades, etc.

The Sandman saga, the original, really is super great. They did a mighty fine job with the teevee series too, thot i. I haven’t read any of the newer additions into the Sandman saga, eventually. I really enjoyed The Sandman adaptation - usually they translate pretty well, I enjoyed American Gods an...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

Spent the week binging on Sepultura, Beneath The Remains might be such a high note in the Brazilian thrash catalogue. It's always been high up on my list of classics from that era but somehow right now it's just number one with a bullet. I also love the Mutilator "Immortal Force" LP as wel...

Re: Comic Books, Graphic Novels, Trades, etc.

Three volumes (complete collection?) of the Buddy Bradley stories from Hate Comics came across the buy counter at work and are now on my employee stash shelf. Can’t wait to read all those again. I LOVED this comic when I was a kid. I had every issue and lost them all when my basement backed up alon...

Mudlark LP+7” (Schizophrenic, 2009) This was not on my radar but sounds wild. Going to keep an eye out for it. [Edit: also my old friend Darin did the artwork for it] Should be around the Hammer City bins given that Schizophrenic was behind it! They went out of business years ago.... I'm sure there...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

“hidden” in with the Lps. When I was much younger I paid like $20 for a cool Pusmort flexi with Outo, Ghoul & SOB - I thought it was some super obscure thing (no discogs in the 90's) but it turns out it's the bonus flexi of the Pusmort Sampler 7" so now I have a very incomplete sampler - I...

Great American Nude / Crash For Hi-Fi. How has this never been reissued... Also Spiral Honey. For real. I'd love to see it! [edit: these are the sort of CDs that venture into the "$50+shipping" realm"] Just got the Space Metalizer DLP in the mail. Looks sick. Urashima did an amaxzng ...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

Yes, it is COMPLETELY a Pushead thing. Wow this sucks. I really loved Septic Death in my teens and was fortunate to be able to pick up the LP and the Kichigai 7" for dirt cheap (plus I have the Desperate for Attention 7" with no FLEX zine somehow) as well as the Cleanse The Bacteria LP an...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

Why wont Steve Heritage let the Assuck material back in print? I don't know the specifics but he has refused to let it be reissued, and doesn't like to even talk about it? I still remember the first time I heard Anticapital, I was very young and bought it because it looked really cool, it was like ...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

It's shocking some of the bands that have never had stuff reissued. Assuck I get because SH won't allow it, but HHiG LPs being totally out of print? Prank used to be great at keeping things in print. I didn't even realize that was a thing until I saw a copy of 15 Counts of Arson in shop recently fo...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

So we're now at about year 23. The Neandethal discography was on that Deep Six "coming soon" list for an eternity and we finally got it in 2017, so I'd say there's still hope. I really never thought that Neanderthal discography would ever exist either. I also foolishly sold my Totalitar s...

Re: Noise with Drums

Sissy Spacek has used drums in a wide variety of their work, from grind to the avant-garde, abstract cut-ups to flat out noise. Definitely one of the main groups I think of (perhaps second only after Hijokaidan) when I think of noise with drums. Definitely take it the use of drums beyond a "ty...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

CDs I wish existed: Infest - anything, please, please It's kind of crazy to think that there hasn't been an Infest discography CD yet. Shouldn't be too hard to make happen. Wasn't a discography (2LP?) on one of the perpetual "coming soon" lists Deep Six had going? Vinny had done a great d...

Re: What Makes for a Good Collaboration?

I think it's also important that collaborators have the ability to set their egos aside and surrender control of everything. This is spot on - look at the collab between Anthony Braxton and Wolf Eyes. That's probably one of my favourite albums ever made. They were clearly listening to each other, p...

Re: Noise with Drums

(Akita) got behind a drum kit and started wailing over the noise. It was shit on reflection. I don't know why but I've been chuckling about this for two days now. I remember buying Anicca when it came out and thinking "wow this is so deep he plays the drums" but it's actually not an era/s...

Re: Moving beyond "noise for noise's sake"

“Receiving attention” was wording it wrong, Bubble-Congeries said everything better than I could - I don’t mean attention in a (mainstream) media context, but it seems (to me) there are more people than ever discovering noise and getting involved and releasing things. Maybe I’m wrong?

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

Finally getting into the new Undergang - the "new" one from 2021 or so. I think somehow during the pandemic I just lost my mojo for contemporary death metal and stopped paying attention to new artists aside from like, Fetid, Cerebral Rot plus buying reissues of the classics.... I don't kno...

Re: Moving beyond "noise for noise's sake"

Ultimately, whatever form it takes, authentically enjoying noise is something we do for "fun" or "pleasure", even if occasionally at masochistically-high volumes, or because it simply gets gears turning in our brains in some way. It still boils down to the same authenticity. &qu...

Re: Moving beyond "noise for noise's sake"

I think people who enjoy "noise for noise's sake" are people who are more preoccupied with it as a hobby as opposed to an art form that can be appreciated/critiqued/experienced on a more complex plane through more dedicated listening. I've been thinking about this comment since I read it ...
