Re: Moving beyond "noise for noise's sake"
This is a really interesting topic - I don't think I have ever listened to noise as background music, but I will put on ambient or kosmiche synth music as background listening, usually with my morning coffee. For "good" noise vs "bad" noise I suppose is always dependent on the pe...

Re: Dream gear and future innovations
I've found Estwing deliver the most bang for your buck and are quite affordable! I typically use mine for hammering in garden stakes but I reckon the quality will hold for noise or gardening....

Re: Books
I just finished reading Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties by Tom O'Neill. Fantastic read, and incredibly well-researched. For those who are conspiratorially-minded. GREAT book! Really different than most conspiracy books. Really solid read. Kind of feel like Cand...

Re: Korg MS-20: Tips and Tricks
Maybe I'm completely wrong but I thought I read somewhere that the MS-20 mini doesn't really have the usual CV stuff going on and you have to get some module or whatever to convert the CV signals into something that the Korg synth registers I think the MF and the MS both run unipolar at 0 or +5v - ...

Re: Korg MS-20: Tips and Tricks
I still feel like I haven't really discovered the full hidden mysterious depths of the MS20 but I will say that learning to use the external signal processor is very helpful for developing weird sounds. Even patching the headphone out into the ESP in and back into the synth opens up a whole world of...

Re: Releases of note (so far) for 2023
Here's my short list of new releases - reissues would be trice as long (haha) The new Helicopter batch has been ordered but I haven't had them shipped yet, plus the new Heat Signature and a few others.... Himukalt - A Third Fantasy LP Incapacitants/Savage Gospel CD Incapacitants - Oxen Mans Uneasine...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist
I think most labels are doing a pretty good job with the Merzbow reissues. The Relapse ones just seem cranked out. And the Noise Matrix LP on Hospital was a touch disappointing IMHO. Just very basic graphics and layout which was surprising as Hospital did a bang up job on NOISEMBRYO reissue. I reall...

Re: Weird Tales / Sword & Sorcery
I have not read The King In Yellow - I gotta add that to my list this year. Currently reading To Rouse Leviathan by Matt Cardin. VERY Liggoti-ish but I'm enjoying it. I started it last year, wasn't in the mood and put it down but now I'm right into it. I also read The Fisherman by John Langan and th...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)
Spent the whole weekend binging Slayer - they were so huge for me at different parts of my teens, twenties, and slightly less in my thirties. Now in my forties it all came back and holy fuck I know this band can be kind of goofy personality wise but man there are so many sick fucking riffs happening...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist
Between these altered reissues and when he lost his mind about the Merzcast I am very curious about what he’s like….. and what his archives are like!!! I think it’s also interesting when you see things like the Merzbow/Full of Hell “collaboration” and you learn he just sent them a bunch of noise tra...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist
I second the frustration with all the endless compromises and "creative tweaks" that go into most Merzbow collections and reissues, by the way. I third it! I’m all for reasonably priced reissues to beat the discogs inflated prices on every 90’s era CD but if you’re going to have to remove...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist
I heard the latest edition of PD is supposed to be "correct", though I ended up sleeping on ordering a copy and haven't heard it myself. Would like to reiterate my wish to see an anthology, or series of anthologies, compiling original mixes of early 5"-7" releases, and maybe a 1...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)
That said I've been revisiting that last Adversarial record a ton lately upon recommendation from a friend and surprised to find that I liked it much more than when it came out. I remember that first record being quite bad with the overbearing pornogrind blasts, but they seem to have found a more m...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist
Pretty excited about this Space Metalizer reissue on Urashima. Looks great. One of my favourite MZ titles/eras.
I just wish these titles weren't so limited so it wasn't a frenzy of purchasing flex but hey what can I say, I'm a lover not a fighter....

Re: Books
I really enjoyed Song of Kali and Hyperion , but it was The Terror that really did me in... it was a real slow burn, and just wonderful. Since then I've had a hard time picking up another Simmons book because it probably just won't live up to The Terror . I'd really like to read The Abominable at so...
Re: Books
Just read The Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevans about the CIA interventions in 3rd world countries to suppress communism. I (a very left wing individual) 100% believe that US imperialism is bad, capitalism is bad, but this book was also very bad. Not only was it painfully dry and poorly written but i...

This is exactly what I'm thinking about, not like a fake positivity or goofy slapstick comedy. Basically the opposite of PE where fun is forbidden.

Sounds very basic but Incapacitants, CCCC & Hijokaidan seem like they're having a great time. Listen to (arguably one of my top ten albums any genre) the Wolf Eyes & Anthony Braxton "Black Vomit" collab. They are having a GREAT TIME. This concludes my ted talk on why groups and col...

Re: Books
I think one of the best things I’ve read this year, which I believe came out last year, was B.R. Yeager’s “Negative Space” Weird, psychedelic horror, multiple perspective narrative, creepy and intriguing. It’s hard for me to put into words why it’s so good but I’m sure there’s much better written r...
