Re: SATATUHATTA

I also think that in Finland it is fairly common to have mental health problems (due to genetics and a culture of school violence and other extremely unfriendly behaviour towards individuals that do not fit the standards) and this is also why some of us decide to lock ourselves in a noise cave to l...

Re: Noise Visualizations

Some of the best "visualizations" of noise, if by that we are meaning art that tries to capture it, might be the cd labels found in the Merzbox. They all match one another, while still reflecting the uniqueness of each album. You know, that's actually an interesting question, what kind of...

Re: Music and Noise

This is interesting also, to me, because I have never been able to decide if noise is actually abstract or not. In many ways, it seems much more literal, representationally speaking, that most music. When someone says that a noise composition sounds like people banging pieces of metal together, the...

Re: Music and Noise

I think also that settling on a definitive answer to this question sidesteps the changing nature of noise both in and of itself and as a historical entity. Rock and roll was once "noise," but it has since become expectation.

Re: Music and Noise

Noise is music when music is defined loosely. Noise is not music when noise is defined specifically.

I have been able to log in, but the "remember me" feature has been nonfunctional. (For clarity too, I use multiple forums, and the others can all keep me logged in---so I don't think it's an issue with cookies on my end, but I could be wrong.)

Re: K2

While I have dipped into this project in the past, I have not taken any sort of deep dive. What albums are the most important/best? I'm missing a few of the classic era albums, but out of the stuff I have, Autopsy Soundtrakks (industrial, dark ambient), Tekhnodrug (psychout industrial of sorts) and...

RE: modern cut up - I'd be inclined to agree that it's an area I lack much interest in. I find it to be one the areas of contemporary noise that most occupies a kind of flashy, rockist space where values of skill and technique are tacitly favoured in the presentation above most others. A lot of it ...

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs

A thing to ask is at what point "cut-up" might be substituted by "editing". Confused? Should be. That's part of why this whole "cut-up" genre of harsh noise has always felt weird to me. When I hear "cut-up," I tend to think about Burroughs and all the philoso...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist

I guess what is interesting to me about the new boxsets, at least the smaller ones, is that they sounded as though they each are representative of a swath of releases from a specific time period, which, to me, would at least give whatever is on them---filler or otherwise---some historical context/v...

Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist

Has anyone purchased either the newer 60 or 30ish cd boxsets? I haven’t but I would also prefer purchase one really good Merzbow reissue for $50 than spend a lot more on a set with (potentially) a lot of filler on it. I was very interested in the Merzbient set(s) but was never able to justify pulli...
