Re: Dream gear and future innovations

Perhaps this won't be useful to you, but I found a Hitachi power tool case on a curb that has worked really well for me... It's basically the perfect size for standard pedals. I cut out the inner plastic molding with a razor and it's a little wobbly and the lid sits slightly askew as a result, but ...

Re: Dream gear and future innovations

Lightweight but durable case for noise_gear. Something that doesn't weight as much as I do, and something I can attach my gear to, already connectd to each other. Guitar/keyboard cases all have downsides that I can't get past.

Re: Grindcore / Noisecore / Powerviolence / Gorenoise

New Pharmacist has Andrew Lee on solos and he rips it up. It sounds like if Necrotism was better. The drum programming is improved, too. https://pharmacistgore.bandcamp.com/album/flourishing-extremities-on-unspoiled-mental-grounds This band is almost too good for their own good. It makes total sens...

Re: Time signatures in noise

The only way this comment would make sense to me is if every artist in that show based their set around samplers, drum machine etc, programmed intte most perfunctory way. Which I’m guessing wasn’t the case?

I've seen a few of her videos. Some of them are filmed in what looks like a computer lab. I wonder if she's a teacher of some kind?

The Bear - really good! I liked it. I don't know why kitchen culture is just people yelling but this was excellent. ... The kitchen scenes are basically Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential in filmed form. I'm pretty sure that's where this all comes from. I've never worked in restaurants and don't know ...

Re: noise as soundtrack on films?

. There's a Namanax track on the Gummo soundtrack, isn't there? Haha. It’s been half a lifetime since I’ve seen this movie. I recall Absu and Mystifier being in there. I wouldn’t have recognized any particular noise artists or tracks at the time anyway. But yes, I looked it up and you’re right.

Re: noise as soundtrack on films?

W (2022) by Anna Eriksson has industrial/ambient soundtrack. Anna Eriksson is the leading elitist in Finnish movie scene right now Ville from Vapaakaupunki went to see it. He was the only person in the theater! but is there any harsh noise in movies? It seems there’s surprisingly little. But if you...

Re: noise as soundtrack on films?

Tetsuo comes pretty close at least. Some kind of noisy, clangy, metallic industrial. Mark Korven’s work on the Witch , Lighthouse etc. soundtracks isn’t exactly noise either, but is also something like it. This custom-made instrument of his will immediately seem familiar to many here, I bet: https:...

Re: Noise Space XII (Helsinki Feb 11 '23): Haare, Mogao, Haudat, Ototomy +1

We'll see. The last 2-3 shows at Redi have gone so well that it's felt like this is too good to last. The rising visibility and profile was sure to attract unwanred attention from people who spend their time on social media looking for things to cancel, and now that's happened. As usual, they approa...

Re: MELUN KIUKAAT 2023 (14.01.23 Helsinki)

Good times. Nice amount of people showed up and all the bands did good sets. Very succesful evening. ”Noise shows in a shopping mall” is such a strange and unlikely concept that of course it ends up working just fine. Too bad you guys had to be pelted with sofa cushions during your set. Hey, at lea...

Ototomy forced to cancel. Probably we’ll just go ahead with 5 performers rather than look for a replacement.

Re: Film Discussion / Now Watching

Just watched Significant Other, a painfully, embarrassingly bad alien invasion movie. The only reason I was interested in the first place is because of Maika Monroe, who was also in The Watcher, one of the best movies of 2022.

Re: Struggles Of Making Noise/ Hosting DIY Noise Shows

Basically when it comes to organizing noise shows, there are no ideal solutions, only more or less tolerable compromises. I dunno, I've been to some pretty ideal noise shows in my time :) Well, you live in a big city. And what I had in mind anyway is the starting point you have to work with when yo...

Re: Struggles Of Making Noise/ Hosting DIY Noise Shows

Like Housepig says, the important thing is to call it quits at a reasonable time. Most people don’t mind, as long as they know that whatever racket is going on, won’t be happening all night. I live in the ”bad” part of Helsinki, the part you won’t see on reports praising the Happiest Country on Eart...

Re: Helsinki/Finland 1.10. Tender Wreckage

Quick report. It seems that the line-up had changed at some point, so I’m not sure of all the names of the artists. Any criticism is meant to be constructive and respectful. Missed the first artist. It was described to me as a guy, erm, ”preparing” a piano, with an axe. Sounds pretty awesome and the...
