Re: Vertical pedalboard performance setups.
Oh. No experience with anything like that, though I feel it'd be awkward for me personally. I guess it depends on how high it's set and how well stabilized. I know the circuit bending artist Khate used a folding, multi-tiered stand of some sort that was a bit like something between a traditional kb ...

Re: Vertical pedalboard performance setups.
Vertical, as in tiered? I've had things set up similarly at home. But live I've aslo used pedalboards and othe tabletop stuff on a two-tier keyboard stand. The second tier is sloped down and most stands can be quickly and easily adjusted for height within a certain limit.

Re: Cut Up
I think my first introduction to "cut up" represented as its own unique subset of HN was Dub Made Flesh by Facialmess. I was an immediate convert! I feel that, of all the identifiable traits within codified HN sub-genres, those of cut-up harsh noise, particularly that which is fairly far r...

Re: Releases of note (so far) for 2023
Forgot all about Moozzhead's Thighmaster (I've had it in the top of my computer stack since ripping it almost a month ago). I overlooked adding it on Discogs and I can't remember release dates for shit without sorting my collection by date and referencing that. Definitely a standout in terms of &quo...

Re: Releases of note (so far) for 2023
I'm perpetually playing catch-up. Still so much I haven't had time to properly absorb or listen to at all from 2022 and earlier. 2023 doesn't look any better with possibly even more new stuff in that I have only barely heard well enough to properly absorb, or not heard at all yet, or else simply did...

Bipolar (fucking) Joe. He's got a kid now and I think he's pretty preoccupied with personal life obligations. Would be great to see him more active again.
A double interview between he and Dawid could be great fun, BTW. Need to see all of those pictures of Joe in tutu again.

https://www.discogs.com/release/2130937-Merzbow-Another-Merzbow-Records I always felt this was a great start - an excellent anthology of his 90's comp appearances. Definitely a great addition to any Merzbow collection. I often forget about this release. I've been aware of it forever but never purch...

I guess also cliques and moody guys who think the genre belongs to them because they got into merzbow before you. Re: Merzbow Reissue Wishlist
I heard the latest edition of PD is supposed to be "correct", though I ended up sleeping on ordering a copy and haven't heard it myself. Would like to reiterate my wish to see an anthology, or series of anthologies, compiling original mixes of early 5"-7" releases, and maybe a 10...

Re: Happy Noise?
TNB, aesthetically, are a lot like Acid House Kings. Very Twee, but with a heaping dose of self-aware irony. But that feels very seperate from the music to me... or else, the visual vibe doesen't really translate for me.
Still, they are endearing.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesen't agree with this. Same for death metal, thrash... hardcore variants x, y and z... blues rock.........hnw!
Too much of all of it making it past the self-released demo/promo stage.

Re: Happy Noise?
Noise is fun. Or it can be. And often is! Or else relaxing, calming, distracting... It can take a lot of the pressure off. It can help one to forget things momentarily. Cock E.S.P. were also one of the first names to come to my mind, even though they definitely fit more in the "fun" and no...

Re: Happy Noise?
This is a weird question for me. What is happiness? I don't know if a coffee buzz makes me "happy", even if it makes me feel "good", "right", or even "high". I think even "euphoria" matches the latter terms better than it does "happy". I'm ...

Does anyone remember that noise dating site? What ever happened to that? I know it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it seems to have disappeared within just a few months... C'mon, I'm desperate! A noise dating site sounds like a massive sausage party like an early aughts hardcore show! If that'...

Re: Opinions on digital subscriptions to labels
Rarely does one find a partner who would rather have a night of noise and chill than Netflix and chill. Its like finding that rare "unicorn" and when you do they are usually just as unstable or flake. Also when was the last time there was a happy noise release? Does anyone remember that n...

Re: What is your criteria for how you decide if you like noise?
It's highly variable. Some days, I try to listen to things I "know" or "remember" or "think" I love as bonafide classics and they just don't move the needle at all. This is more true of noise releases than anything. Sometimes a lot of it seems so flat and colorless/mono...

Re: substance abuse/usage in noise
I really missed the boat on the noise = poppers connection, but it's something I've heard about multiple times before. What is the origin of this... I don't know what else to call it except a "meme"? Completely confused by this. No stranger to poppers for reasons completely unrelated to n...

Re: Time signatures in noise
I do think there is a tendency, even in noise, and even for non-musicians like myself, to unconciously time transitions according to the psychological scaffolding of a "beat", unless consciously trying to avoid it. I think it's also potentially very easy to recognize a pulse in things like...

borrowed a DOD meatbox in the mid-90's and tried to never give it back. two years go I found out they reissued them, and I bought one for myself. I've never used the original, but did buy the reissue when it was on sale at some point. Quite an interesting pedal to experiment with. It's not always e...

I liked DOD *before* I had any idea who Jason Lamb was! *indignant nerd screeching* I wound up stockpiling DOD pedals from Yahoo Japan just to avoid paying speculator's prices in the US while trying to buy back a lot of old pedals I'd sold before realizing what a shitshow JHS and the like have turne...
