Re: Doom/Sludge/Drone/Stoner/etc

Listened to a couple of early Floor eps the other day. Can`t stand that melodic shit they went on to do, and I do love a good melody.. But those early eps were fantastic, especially the "Madonna" 7" I LOVE Floor, both the early stuff and the melodic stuff. I think "Bombs To Abad...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

I fired up "Mardraum" by Enslaved not too long ago after years of not listening to it, and it's aged well. I keep forgetting about them. And the Worm release from 20 Buck is great, and I'm excited to see how they're going to progress. Reminds me a lot of Unholy (clearly). Yeah, "Mard...

Re: Extreme metal (death/black/etc)

The Bekhira LP has been repressed by Impure Wedding. Some of the best French BM ever. It is. I haven't enjoyed many new BM releases besides the last Absu, Warloghe and Helwetti LPs, which kind of bums me out. I'm not really into the raw black metal scenes from the US, Portugal, etc in which I only ...

Re: Likes and Turn-ons

- Seconding the stuff that sounds broken. - Ruined tape loops. - Tape warmth, hiss and compression. - Recorded mistakes and accidents. - The sound of silence and empty space in noise. I'm not talking about ambient or field recordings, I'm talking about letting things breathe and not hiding behind to...

Re: Edition Sizes

I am firmly behind the notion that if you’re putting out a tape for me, it should be as close to meeting the demand as you’re able to get. I completely understand if it’s a new project or a new label doing something like 25-35 copies because you can’t predict demand for something that people aren’t...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

I think blending is a feature that shouldn't be forgotten here. That's like the dry/wet of delays and reverbs. I use a Frantone Peach Fuzz clone with an extra blend on it for my drum machine. It definitely helps because you can dial in the amount of fuzz (in my case) and precision/natural sound to y...

Re: Edition Sizes

My take on this is a bit weird I suppose, and I've been thinking about it for a long time now because the availability of noise releases brings out so many other important topics in my humble opinion (about which I have strong and maybe not-so-humble opinions as well.) So that's my personal take and...

Re: Modular Noise

So $5K modular techno is bad but $5K modular noise is good? What about the guys having multiple $10K systems but only creating bleeps and bloops or ambient? But I do get it, with all the fancy new modules the more simple modules seems to be neglected which are often as much as useful and effective,...

Re: Modular Noise

Well, to be honest, I don't think it's fair to compare 3U to 4U because there are many brands with their own size, power, jacks, etc factors within those categories whose approaches are totally different. And even if you go Euro vs Buchla/Serge that wouldn't work either because Buchla and Serge don'...

Re: Forgotten noises from the entrails of the vault

Actually, my friend got in touch with the Smmania dude once and he replied that he didn't have anything left when it comes to releases so.. This may or may not be common knowledge, but SMMania hosts a good dozen or so of their releases via their blog. Hentaitenno / What A Smell among them. http://s...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

I like all the Finnish, Swedish, Japanese, UK, Italian and US stuff that we all know are untouchable classics but I’ve been really coming around on stuff I did not care for much in the 90’s. I was into Union of Uranus, Drift, In/Humanity, Rorschach, Acme, Systral, His Hero is Gone, Born Against etc...

Re: Punk/Hardcore

I still love punk but have felt totally disconnected from the scene for the last 5 years or so. Disconnected or alienated, I don't know. I don't really care about what comes out anymore because it all feels like it'll be forgotten in two months and it's been years I haven't heard bands like No Hope ...

I love Eliane Radigue. A few years ago, a friend and I were working in a call centre and he stumbled upon her number by chance. She picked up and at the end fo the conversation he did something we weren't allowed to do, which is asking her if she was the composer. She was surprised he knew who she ...

Re: Self Releasing/Starting Labels

If you do a good job on someone’s release, they will recommend you to more-established artists now that they’re confident that you do solid work. That's true. And so is the opposite. The noise scene is both wide and small at the same time. If you fuck up, people will know. Labels that stay at the t...

Re: Grindcore / Noisecore / Powerviolence / Gorenoise

I love noisecore but very rarely anything released in the 00's and afterwards besides say Penis Geyser. I can't find the sheer sonic violence and radicalism of the South American (and especially Brazilian) bands, the silliness and brutality of the Spanish scene, etc, anywhere anymore. It's like comp...

Re: Self Releasing/Starting Labels

Hah, making jcards and layouts on a computer is so mysterious to me.

My only piece of advice is NO PRE-ORDERS. If you have to do a pre-order to release 25 copies of a tape, you're more than likely not ready to run a label.

Re: Differentiating Projects

For me, themes matter more than sound in general for my projects, although I do try to force myself to keep some particular guidelines in terms of gear and direction soundwise. However, I mostly make music for myself in the first place and since having listeners is the icing on the cake, while I do ...

Also, its arpeggiator is INCREDIBLE. If you're curious and have 40 minutes to waste, I use it all over that album (that's neither noise, industrial or PE though) : https://lavabdx.bandcamp.com/album/phase-iii The cycling through the oscillators is a super cool feature, and pretty distinct. Yeah, I get you. I'm the same I suppose, although I do care about the sound a lot haha. I buy less but better or wisely in general, and I don't mind saving money for a year to get what I want if that's what it takes. But again, the Harley Benton power plants are great when you can't invest in a Vood...

Right, you're welcome. But then, as mentioned above, don't worry about your sounds. What matters is that you like them, whatever they are, and that you build something with them that's YOURS. Once you're satisfied with that, maybe start thinking about what other people may think. But make music you'...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

Well, I was that elitist person but once you want to get into polyphony (and this one is only paraphonic) with analog vcos (because Behringers newer replicas aren't fully analog synths, usually, only the VCOs are), you have no other choice unless you want to sell a kidney or buy a still overpriced s...
