Re: Releases of note (so far) for 2023
Heard Beton Tåge - Formless today which I noticed was released this year. Pretty interesting recording.

Re: New Wave of Canadian Noise
Any discussion of Canadian noise, new or otherwise, should mention Damno Te. I mean like KM Toepfer he's been true to it for a long time now...but i just discovered his work this summer and this one is my favorite: https://damnote.bandcamp.com/album/inferno-lust-machine While I do agree that Damno ...

Re: Record store & show noise scores
We just last night had Tongue Depressor in town who played an incredible set. I decided to pick up 2 of the solo/collab LPs rather than any of their actual recordings though. Came away with: Zach Rowden - When the Gloss is Removed Henry Birdsey/Max Eilbacher - Bell Formations Haven't had a chance to...

Re: New Wave of Canadian Noise
Some names known and unknown to me here. I also agree that a lot of really interesting stuff seems to be coming from Canada of late. Spring of Life - YES. Underdog remains one of the finest things I heard in recent years. Toanche Dwelling - YES. Very unique project, absolutely love the approach embo...

Re: BBBlood - Deaf and Capital (Fantasy Knife)
There was a gig celebrating 20 Years of BBBlood!! How did I miss this ... ???? I fear it must have been a bit too low key and, dare I say, London centric in promotional scope. Inadvertently however. Support came from Lassiters Complex (Aqua Dentata), Spencer, Malvern Brume and some amazing DJ named...

Re: BBBlood - Deaf and Capital (Fantasy Knife)
Very cool to see Paul/BBBlood getting spoken about. He has been active for a great many years but never really over played his hand with releases, just sticking out well timed, decent work in small bursts. Always was quite an overlooked artists sadly, despite having gotten about a bit. I've had the ...

Re: WHITE CENTIPEDE NOISE PODCAST
smell and quim at the royal park in leeds was a good one Ha! travelled hours and hours to get to this and showed up just after the plug got pulled. Formative experience. The other chat about the Norma Jean kids reminds me I was once playing a noise gig in Bristol that had 2 venues. This comedically...

T.D. - Nothing New Under The Sun CS (The Gift Of Music) Absolutely. I only got to this last night but it was a standout release right out of the gate. There's such a brilliantly selected sequence of ideas going on here which seem to deliberately take the dynamic from its most maximal to challenging...

Billy Woods – Aethiopes (Backwoodz Studioz) Hell yes man, this is definitely one of the albums I played most this year. Was very impressed by Church also but it doesn't quiiiite hit the mark for me the way this one did. Being a bit staid in my hip hop tastes and defaulting to handfuls of favourites...

Re: Where do I start with Bloodyminded?
I think the OP feels weird about having made this thread without realising what Bloodyminded were all about content wise. I dare say some of the snarky responses compound this. But it's asinine as fuck to suggest you should have just 'known' what it was all about before going in. Even the biggest fa...

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
Agree with the above in essence but feel we must acknowledge the reality in which lots of 'genreless' stuff is an atrocious aesthetic failure. For a lot of these people, the act of smashing generic restraints to bits is simply placing one poorly observed trope next to another. Surfing on the fact th...

Re: Cassette repair thread :/
I was blasting an incredibly rare Evil Moisture tape the other day and, to my horror, when I rewound the tape, one end of the magnetic tape separated from the spool. Has anyone had this happen with a rare tape before and had to fix it? I'm trying to figure out the best way to fix the damn thing. Fi...

Re: WHITE CENTIPEDE NOISE PODCAST
Really loved the Roemer episode! It's not like it's necessary or expected but it was quite cool to hear him be explicit and frank about some of his views on the wider world whilst coming off like a real gent throughout. It's probably because I just got back from a festival but I found his sign off a...

Re: Now Playing
the new Dressing cd on Oxen is really something. Quite a different thing from the debut but holding enough of those kinda blunt force, wild features that keep you guessing. Very TNB style junk noise with some really great, sharp sounding electronics. Great project, high recommendation.

Re: Jazz/subgenres
I find myself strsngely conservative when it comes to jazz. It's not that I don't like it free, wild and "out there", but I definitely prefer it less so. It's the classic Blue Note, Atlantic and calmer Impulse titles I return to the most. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Coltrane befor...

Getting a No Choice tattoo was definitely one of the most fun experiences I've had getting a tattoo. Everyone laughing the whole time as Dennis is doing his thing, it looks absolutely ridiculous but that's part of the point. Hahaha I'm definitely prepared for a ridiculous outcome. I've paid for tat...

Re: Favorite noise artwork.
DUH! This should be on ANY list. How could I have forgotten?! Truly one of the best. I guess while we're on the topic of consistent aesthetics we have to tilt the cap to American Tapes and Wolf Eyes. Even if you don't care for any of the music that stuff is instantly identifiable.

Linekraft - Asura (Tesco, 2021) Cursory searches do not reveal much discourse about this which is a shame. Though Linekraft is not usually my kind of thing I can, a handful of times a year, thoroughly enjoy throwing an album on. I was very struck by the imagery and themes used here which refer to th...

Reinvigorating my love of Grime these last few days, largely off the back of a radio set a few days ago featuring a return from one of the best to ever do it - Trim. For the uninitiated, this guy probably takes the crown for being the most utterly vicious war MC in the entire scene and was around ev...

Re: Best of Macronympha
Sigh... Isn't it a good time to put the Macronympha name to sleep? I can't imagine anything worthwhile coming out of those two continuing whatever it is they're doing. If the best they can do is still nowhere near the least good of the prime era Macronympha, what's the point? And why do people both...

Been digging on Evil Moisture a fair bit since the excellent WCN podcast episode with Andy Bolus. Had a lovely tune in to Yerm Flowers on the bus to work today which was a beautiful thing to distract from the rail strike inflicted crowding en route (no worries, up the workers every time). All that c...

Re: Prurient thread
There's no argument to win, just circular analysis which I happen to enjoy for its own sake. Having a listen to Casablanca Flamethrower right now off the back of comments made earlier in the thread and it's interesting to see what he's up to more recently. It definitely sounds like a Tesco album.
