Re: Soundtracks & background musics

Some of my favourites: Popol Vuh soundtracks to Herzog movies. Ernst Reijseger soundtracks to Herzog movies. Chernobyl soundtrack w/ field recordings from power plants in the eastern bloc. Most soundtracks by Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow, like Devs, Archive 81, Ex Machina etc. Archive 81 was esp...

Re: Production Techniques

I have no idea what you're on about. Just riffing on one of the earlier posts in the thread, re- "limitations breed creativity", but will concede the wording was in poor taste (on my part). On one level, I'm all for the most efficient means of editing a piece of digitized sound. At the sa...

Re: Production Techniques

I think it's interesting that the lexicon has developed to the point where music is no longer music but a collection of files. Time to walk away? Maybe stop posting on drugs That is certainly one response. If, on the other hand, the above is to represent the best we've got going, it is quite possib...

I'm trying to decide if I should laugh out loud or just fucking kill myself. Either/or. I don't understand why, so can't really recommend either. Re: Doom/Sludge/Drone/Stoner/etc

Noothgrush never seem to get mentioned in these sorts of discussions (anymore) but they absolutely did not rock in the bluesy “rawk” style but still somehow kept a groove? Man they were great. Saw em live with Dino from Dystopia on drums & vox. Pretty good gig, but not my favourite band. Dystop...

Tape and digital for noise, vinyl and digital for other stuff. I don't mind cd's I guess, if there's no alternative.

Re: Opinions on digital subscriptions to labels

Always thought since flac became a thing that CD's are useless. I would much rather buy the files with like a small art book or a t-shirt or w/e than a CD. I do love album covers and crazy packaging, but the CD itself is just useless. Give me a small run of tapes, other merch (people should start do...

Now spinning Zoloft Smile by 16. I miss this kind of sludge, I've always loved like Grief, Toadliquor and Corrupted but many of the super slow doomy sludge bands leave me feeling bored. Give me faster, harder sludge with hardcore influences. Buzzoven, 16, Cavity, Brainoil etc. Eye Flys has been rele...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

Please post pictures of those pedals or the pedal chains if you'd like (kind of a pedal nerd here, although I don't use any for noise) Sure, I'll try to remember to take a few pics the next time I build a longer chain. I like using pedals because I quite like the idea of them not being made for mak...

Re: THE DREADED GEAR THREAD

I've been really into feedback loops. There's constantly a huge amount of interesting pedals for sale locally, so I keep picking up 1-2 pedals a month for less than 100 bux each. Building long pedal chains and seeing what comes out is fascinating. I should really get into tape loops, I have all the ...

Re: Noise from Beyond the West

Afaik African Imperial Wizard is a german project. Much like Muslimgauze, taking an exotic culture as a conceptual basis for what's pretty basic western ethno-fusion electronic music. Nothing wrong with that, I actually like African Imperial Wizard and adore Muslimgauze, but they're definitely not &...

Re: Nuori Veri - Kadonnut Maailmankuva (Aussaat)

Here's a review I posted on the now playing thread: Listened to the new Nuori Veri CD last saturday. It was quite late, I had had a few drinks and was watching some Siberian urban exploration videos on mute at the same time, so did not give it as much attention as I think it probably deserves, most...

Re: Pets

I have a corgi which is one of the least noise warrior-y dog breed there is, but I live him with all my life. Last august I rescued 4 kitten that were abandonned by their mother. Took care of them for a couple of days, bottle feeding them every 6 hours and wiping their tiny butt, before giving them...

Personally I see no reason to use Audacity when Reaper exists. But, if all you need to do is trim files then Audacity gets the job done.

I don't know shit about recording, mixing or mastering but here's what's working for me. - What is your recording process? Do you record digital? On tape? First on tape then transfer to digital? Either 4-track recording to a Zoom h6 or using as many inputs as I need, Zoom R16 straight to DAW. I like...

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs

By far my biggest dislike when it comes to noise/pe/etc is when you buy a tape for a release you are really stoked about and you finally get it in the mail and throw it in the player and press play and lo and behold the dub is too quiet. I've bought tapes before where I had to turn the volume on my...
