Re: Time signatures in noise

It seems more than likely that your friend was just messing with you, although maybe there was some sound within your set that he really latched onto. To echo many of the sentiments of what others have said, a time signature is entirely conditional on context in which it is being perceived. It is al...

Re: Mourning damaged releases thread

My tape player tried to eat a Magnetic Coroner cassette and while I was able to save it, the tape has somehow become twisted in the enclosure and I can't seem to figure out how to untwist it so until I really have some time to take the shell apart it sits on my desk... If the shell doesn't have scre...

Re: Listening Environment

Depends on what time of day it is. I keep my CD/Tape player in my kitchen since it's the most centrally located room in my house so if I've got the place to myself I really do try to listen to noise pushing air through some speakers. If it's later in the evening I'll listen in headphones. I don't ne...

Re: Now Playing

Short playlist from last night: MO*TE - Kill The Sun CD on Dada Drumming Dada Drumming's description really says everything you need to know about this disc. I'm a big fan of the CD in DVD case packaging, which allows for larger artwork and inserts, and this release has both and they look excellent....

After hearing about the sale that Industrial Coast is running I wanted to take the opportunity to say that copies of the first run of Endless Tunnel cassettes are still available there if anyone in Europe is still interested in picking up a copy.

From today: Macronympha - Baroque - Picked up this reissue on Industrial Recollections from New Forces recently. Just now hearing for the first time. Form Hunter - Overripe - Fruits and vegetables ought to be used as a theme in noise more often. John Wiese & Aaron Dilloway - Sniper Counter Snipe...

Re: Generational differences in the noise community

Like I would be more inclined when I was starting out to look for information on noise on youtube or reddit or digging around on instagram, or even /mu/, but I never thought to look for a blog or a forum or facebook because that's old people shit lol. So it's not about not looking, it's about an ev...

Re: Collages/Visual Art

Can anyone recommend good ways to preserve collages? I have a piece that was recently completed that I will be mailing to someone, so I would like to ensure that is is not damaged in transit. I know that if I brace it with cardboard/a nice shipper, then hopefully bends will not be a big issue. My m...

Kiran Arora – Wilderness Years CD (Fantasy Knife) Brand new and exciting album from Kiran! Thanks for sharing these here! Very excited to hear them both, especially that Seepage double CD. I've been listening to the CD on Phage Tapes quite often again lately. One of if not my favorite current harsh...

Re: Generational differences in the noise community

The future of noise rests in the hands of whoever is creating it and whoever is listening to it. I've often thought about the different ways people communicate about noise. I always thought it was a great tragedy to watch some older heads take their leave of some of the groups on facebook, which whe...

Re: The Projection of the Astral Body (Attic Shrines)

The work of Projection of the Astral Body and Attic Shrines in general really sticks out to me among the constant deluge of dungeon synth, and dark ambient projects that are operating in a related wheelhouse. For me it seems like a lot of other projects are not approaching their releases with this l...

Re: Noise Books

Fight Your Own War (parts of it were pretty good some were not good), This is one of the reasons I especially like this book. It feels like the editors found a wide spectrum of folks to write about "power electronics and noise culture" and while I may appreciate some sections more than ot...

Re: BBBlood - Deaf and Capital (Fantasy Knife)

Fucked up, oddly psychedelic, surreal, abstract and fun without being too stupid. Most importantly, totally break neck wild and insane! I appreciate very much that Paul would move on from this kind of thing but I'm really glad it's still available to hear. More digging through the archives to come!...

Re: BBBlood - Deaf and Capital (Fantasy Knife)

Thanks for reminding me about that Connive tape, I remember it sold out quick when it dropped and I was only able to hear on bandcamp. Genuinely fucking weird harsh noise. I'll have to listen to them both in the same session sometime soon.

Re: BBBlood - Deaf and Capital (Fantasy Knife)

Any recommendations for other BBBlood releases in the same vein? This tape was actually my introduction to this artist. After finding the completely exquisite harsh noise work of the project Seepage, I discovered the Fantasy Knife label and was able to get that second batch that featured this tape....

BBBlood - Deaf and Capital (Fantasy Knife)

Deaf and Capital is the third release on Fantasy Knife which, if I remember correctly, is based in NYC. It is presented as a white cassette with a dissected frog graphic stamped on each side of the tape. It’s very striking, and it was included on a pin which was sent by the label with orders. It app...

First mail day of 2023 was the three immortal Mania tapes, excellently packaged and dubbed VERY loud, highly recommended. I know I didn't hear as much new material this year as I wanted to, but these are a few things that I've listened to many times over: God Is War x Apaixonar - Vol. 1 & 2 - Phage Tapes Extremely dynamic, varied, and hard-hitting collaboration between two of my favorite current artists working wit...

Re: Now Playing

The Rita - Her Shell, The Chute (Absurd Exposition) This tape is a high point for me within the more recent The Rita output. There's more movement present on this tape than some of the other straight geiger-counter style crackling featured on others and there's a shifting velocity of this sound thro...

Re: Struggles Of Making Noise/ Hosting DIY Noise Shows

4. Keep the show moving; don't space sets out by a half hour like a punk show. Have everyone set up and swap out with 5-10 minutes between artists. This prevents attrition and if the show is going to get cut early, lets you pack in as much as possible. Excellent advice all around but especially thi...
