What's your opinion on that? It's on my "to-read" list too, haven't gotten it though.

Out of curiousity: what about releases on R2R? Anybody got any experience with that?

Re: Production Techniques

I have used (and still use) Focusrite interfaces as well. They sometimes get a bad rep online for being unstable and for having latency problems, but this seems to be limited to WIN systems. I always used them on Macs and it has been plug and play, they were super stable and had no latency problems ...

Re: medium of releases

its called a joke guys. no one is waking up in cold sweats over chrome cassettes & if they are god help them. BUT THOSE TYPE II TAPES ARE SO HARD TO GET AROUND HERE!!! But jokes aside, I did not intend to put anyone down either. It's just a dead end to bring the "all our existence is meani...

Re: Opinions on digital subscriptions to labels

I was thinking about this the other day re: patreon and podcasts. Why doesn't this work exactly for musicians? I think the concept of the podcast in itself is the key. It is built around episodes that will be published regularly, like once a week or a month, so a subscription-based payment-model is...

Re: medium of releases

To your second question - just because your existence is inherently meaningless doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to create meaning for yourself. It’s the only way to stop yourself from committing suicide. If writing music for the enjoyment of others creates meaning in your life, you should do that. E...

Re: Opinions on digital subscriptions to labels

From an artist point of view I had no interest in setting up something like an subscription service or similar. On the one had I'd feel like put under pressure to release more (or maybe anything at all) to give something back to my subscribers. Which would make me feel horrible. There a times when I...

Re: medium of releases

So it isn't worth sweating the idea of how to release music too much, only that you should be creating as much as possible but releasing only your very best work. Well, as we all die anyway and nothing matters in the end, why not release everything? Or even better: why bother to create anything at ...

Re: medium of releases

For everything non-noise, vinyl is king. I want to buy music on vinyl and I want to release my music on vinyl, if that is possible. When it comes to noise, however, tape and cd seem a lot more fitting. I cannot explain the how and why, but I really enjoy putting on a noise-cd and listen to it, while...

Andrew Nolan - Museum Etiquette Fantastic blend of field recordings, synth bleeps and sounds and some oldschool death-industrial feel. Two tracks of about 15 minutes. Mellow mood, but pretty dark. Sounds and atmosphere is flowing nicely from segment to segment. This is very well crafted material. T...

Re: Edition Sizes

From the artist perspective, I want enough copies to meet the demand, but I do not want to rent storage to have hundreds of tapes or cds stashed away for theoretical future sales. Which leads to the question: how big is the demand? And what to do if the demand suddenly grows? I did all Meathook Sain...

Bought a couple of their CDs last year, due to the insane prices of the vinyl editions. At least the CD editions are very well done as well, beautiful packaging.

Great project, loved all I've heard of them so far.

Distro leftovers from around 2007 to 2009

Found a box containing the leftovers of the little distro I did at around 2007 to 2009. Of some of the items I got more than one copy. Shipping from Germany. Due to the insane shipping rates for shipping outside of the EU I recommend getting items for more than 20 EUR combined. Package prices are po...

Re: Self Releasing/Starting Labels

This is not aimed at Misery Engine in particular but some general thoughts. Doing your own releases can be a lot of fun and has some advances. You have unlimited freedom of doing whatever you want. You can do whenever you want. Doing 12 tapes in the next 6 months? Why not. You are in control. AND yo...

Re: The New Boyfriends - The New Boyfriends 3 CS (Satatuhatta, 2021)

This tape is brilliant. Disturbingly musical at times, perfectly balance with the noise. The artwork fits perfectly. And just like " NBF 4" it has such a fun atmosphere. Absolute masterpiece.

Re: Doom/Sludge/Drone/Stoner/etc

Currently we have only one room mic hanging from the ceiling into a focusrite/reaper so we can record our rehearsals and jammings. That's what we do too, with the only difference that we got us one of those cheap Behringer pencil-mic sets. The mics are placed in an X pattern in a certain spot in th...

Compilations were really important starting-points and orientation for me getting into noise/pe. "Sound Of Sadism", "Songs From The Darkroom" and "Don't Hunt What You Can't Kill" provided some excellent insights into power-electronics.

We're going to studio this week with my band Fogteeth to record our first full lenght. Excited and nervous as hell haha! try to enjoy the time at the studio. I've been extremely nervous all the time when I've been recording with my bands, but somehow I got to the point to just enjoy the time there ...

Re: Doom/Sludge/Drone/Stoner/etc

Besides noise/PE doom and more so desert- and stoner-rock (with a little bit of psych) are my favourite genres. New King Buffalo arrived last week, haven't had the time to play it yet, but I love the band anyway and I am sure it is going to be fantastic. I play guitar in a desert-rock band myself, c...

Some trades and some orders from Total Black, WCN, Narcolepsia and Bent Window. Thanks guys, been a pleasure.

(And yes, I already got me a nice fingerprint on that Treriksröset CD).

There was a time I built a lot of stuff from tagboardeffects and I also built some stuff from pedalPCB (highly recommended) and Musikding. Some of the pedals are still in use (mostly with my rockbands though), some are in the "archive" (a.k.a. the drawer). Got two PCBs from JupiterFX when ...

Worry about what you're GIVING to the scene/world, not about what you're getting. The best advice I can give anyone doing anything in the noise underground is this: KEEP IT REAL. This! And this is not only valid for noise but for every underground-music/counterculture-scene one may be involved. The...

I really got a lot out of "Mixing secrets for the small studio" by Mike Senior and "Mastering audio" by Bob Katz and I highly recommend both books.

"Recording secrets for the small studio" is on my "to read" pile as well.
