Load Records had one of the best label sites back in the early 00s, totally formative to my taste.

My current stack includes ASM - Mission Hill 2001 Linekraft - Bankrupt of Morals DSM III - Plague State Masonna/Prurient - Annihilationism ASM tape is awesome; structured, slownburn creeping noise; the DNA of later Skin Crime is definitely present in this, particularly on the B-side with it's long d...

Re: Struggles Of Making Noise/ Hosting DIY Noise Shows

1. Get a decent PA, preferably stereo, preferably with a sub. This can be daunting, but you can find a lot of old church gear on Craigslist/church sales, etc. Go into it with a few people and the costs come down. If you start trying to book "bigger" names you're going to run into people wi...

October 7 - ABQ NM - TEF/A Fail Association + Ineffable Slime/Plumbing/Chromolith/M. Wayne

https://i.postimg.cc/MZNczpq2/Oct-7-Final-Color-1.jpg Head Drill 01 is here, and it's a heavy one. We are honored to host Texas noise veterans TEF and AFA for a CD release of "Wrought", TEF's latest cut-up masterpiece. For the denizens of S&W, AFA and TEF should require no introductio...

Re: Books

I finished up Eugene Marten's Pure Life last week. I give it a heavy recommendation with the caveat that it gets into something shockingly bummer stuff towards the end that did slightly spoil things due to a cliche I find more than a bit dated. It follows a football player slowly developing dementia...

Re: Prurient thread

the Bermuda Drain release show with Wes Eisold playing with Dom was really sick,it captured the energy he was trying to do on the record. I think at the time people perceived it as a "change" in the sound versus a one off experiment, in the long run it's just an oddity in the discography t...

Down with the sickness so I'm just listening to tapes in a haze the past few daze.... SBTDOH - Personalization (Tribe Tapes) Great stuff, bit of an "underrated" project imo, but for me...rated. Strange and grinding noise, lots of abrupt cuts, a handful of irrelated samples, lofi and nasty....

Re: Now Playing

Merzbow - Material Action 2 I haven't heard this one before but love the weird, not particularly harsh sound pallete. It's almost a free jazz record with the strange drumming and strings. The only thing that drove me a little nuts is the heavy drone on track 1 that is all in the right channel, which...

VNV Nation - Futureperfect
Merzbow - Material Action
Dinosaur Jr - Where you Been? (just saw the Freakscene documentary and got nostalgic, what a ripper of a record. I couldn't imagine how the opening combo of Out There and Start Choppin hit people back when it came out)

Re: The Future of the physical format underground

yea agree - I have noticed that within the "techno"/rave world right now, CD-Rs are huge. Aesthetically, they're doing some interesting stuff with packaging just in terms of weird old stock jewel cases. I don't really know if CDJ work is on the upswing or if it's just really the "obje...

Deterge - "Introductio In Analysin Infinitorum" (NRRe^iπ+1=0) 75 minutes of brutish harsh noise across two long tracks. Thick and churning, lots of looping scrap and distortion. Buried vocals here and there, but firmly incessant, ever changing NOISE. A great release, well presented....

Re: The Future of the physical format underground

yea I'm feeling this after having 3 cassette decks die over the past year and I am struggling to find anyone who can repair them. My last working tape deck is this old timey GE portable stereo from the 70s and man I doubt it's going to get me through the year. I guess we should all commit to sculptu...

Re: Trends in Contemporary Noise (with Examples!)

I feel like I've seen more C60-C90s lately. Also field recording is "having a moment" for sure, though I think ambient bros are co-opting that one moreso.
