I've had some LPs piling up here over the past couple years that I hadn't had a chance to listen to, and I finally got to spend some quality time with them this week with an open and analytical ear, so I'm sharing my thoughts in this week's episode on some great recent vinyl. Long live the noise LP!

At this point I'm a geek for every format but I'm actually trying to collect a nice little collection of noise 7's for myself. It's too bad people don't really press those anymore because it's definitely my favorite format for the genre.

When done right, a noise 7" can be perfect. Unfortunately, production costs have made it really difficult for 7"s to have much economic sense these days.

Thank you, Oskar, for the thoughtful and in-depth review of the Barstool Mountain LP. Plenty of copies still available from the source https://www.screamandwrithe.com/product ... walker-lp/

I did plan on talking about a couple of the recent Murder Series 7"s but ran out of time. 7" is a challenging format for me, it's gotta be just the right material for me to enjoy. Maybe I'll do an episode down the road about 7"s.

OUT NOW - Eric Stonefelt of HUM OF THE DRUID on WCN Podcast

HUM OF THE DRUID is a project that has carved out its own gnarled niche in the industrial noise landscape, with its dense, cracking compositions that blur the lines between acoustic and electric sounds, and emit a distinct atmosphere of personal esotericism. Eric Stonefelt, the man behind the project, is a visual artist as well, responsible for the surreal textual illustrations adorning all HUM OF THE DRUID releases, and is a member of several obscure black metal projects. Something of a recluse when it comes to “scene” involvement, Eric was kind enough to join me for an in depth conversation about his work, philosophies, and more.

i love his praise for the rare "saints & celebrities of noise," i.e. noise fans who don't make noise! especially in a "scene" where the vast majority of the audience are also artists. is this b/c of the "I want to do that! I can do that!" enthusiasm that we associate with punk rock? I honestly don't know if I've ever met anyone who really listens to noise but doesn't make it. And I agree with him that it's therefore heroic!

I think this is an especially great listen for anyone who might be new to noise and wonder why and how people keep at it. thanks WCN!

I was one of those inept idiots who never played in a HC band and chose noise as a kind of foundation I could build on, being quite literally musically retarded. But I do think it's important for people to find their own identities and strive for something personally fulfilling long term, even if it may not be to everyone's taste. Noise is much too subjective, but trying to create something at least you genuinely feel good about is important, and I try to strive for that. Noise is the only thing I know how to do... of course I want to be good at it!

There is a new episode of Unsound Heads out now on WCN TV with P.M. of HISTORY OF LEATHER, VELVET CURTAIN, Recluse Activity label, etc. We talk about P.M.'s work, but we mostly talk about rap music.

Esteemed chap also serving double duty as dutifully headgeared conductor of the noise choir.

(I know there have been other tributes to the great one. R Ramirez did at least one that I know of, among possibly more.)

And in the spirit of Joe Lombardo and Fuck My Ass, I thought I should share this great footage that Soddy sent me on MiniDV and I digitized, which he let me upload as a Patreon perk with his interview.

Hang about: doesn’t mr Lombardo enjoy a collaborative credit with Kakerlak via the much sought after ‘Piles of Porno Mags’ cassette on Thorax?

I remember seeing old photos of Lombardo 20+ years ago performing live w/ Richard Ramirez or BLJ in Texas. Might have just been invited on stage to participate opposed to being a true "collaboration" but I'd consider Lombardo first and foremost a fan and one of these true noise celebrities.

Soddy of TADM has a longstanding project of course but I also consider him one of these true fans based on principle alone.

Thanks for checking out the interview on White Centipede, everyone. Much appreciation to Oskar for doing what he does.

Good memory Eric! Great interview too. I enjoyed what I heard of it.

I had those photos you saw from the show posted on my site back then. Here are the only 2 still in existence to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure I have hard copies, I'll see if I can find them.

I believe I have, or had, a recording as well but that may be one I lost when my HD failed on my D8TK.

I’m all kinds of biased for obvious reasons, but this was a great episode. It’s so good to hear from a wide range of approaches to noise and Tom is good at explaining some pretty complex ideas or relationships between different artistic moments in time in an easy to understand way. despite oskar’s own admission that some of Tom’s reference points are a bit different to his usual interests I thought he did a fantastic job researching things and offered some really well made observations that crystallised things about TD that I have struggled to articulate up until now, even as quite the over thinker about all this stuff myself. As much as anything it was also cool to cement some further contextual info about a clutch of artists/labels that are quite lacking in documentation or discussion.

OUT NOW on White Centipede Noise Podcast - Max Klebanoff of DEATH KNEEL / TOMB MOLD

Max Klebanoff, the Canadian musician behind the noise project DEATH KNEEL and drummer for death metal band TOMB MOLD, is an artist deeply dedicated to his craft and developing his own language within the extreme genres he operates in. His work as DEATH KNEEL has always set itself apart with its progressive sonics and introspective aura, but with his 2023 CD "Dawn Simulation" on Chondritic Sound, he began to breach more abstract and harsh territory, which he has masterfully expanded upon over the past several short-length tapes, released on his own imprint "Life Of Sensation." In our long chat, Max opens up about what drives his passion and work ethic, how he does what he does, and the conclusions of a life dedicated to extreme music. Full 2+ hour episode on Patreon - Premium subscribers can download an exclusive board recording of a live DEATH KNEEL set from 2023.
