The Gerogerigegege
Is it time to discuss the greatest band ever now?
I recently got Tokyo Anal Dynamite Singles and took it for a spin a couple of days ago. Whilst the big draw for me was the previously unreleased and rare stuff, I have to say that by the time I’d rattled through Yellow Trash Bazooka, All You Need Is Audio Shock and Mother Fellatio without getting up I was pretty delighted to have it all in one place like that. Not entirely sure about the ‘new mix’ of Audio Shock though...will need to cross reference with the 7”. If it ain’t broke...
The rare/unreleased stuff is absolute grade A ultra shit noise. The most knuckle dragging, talentless crap imaginable and it’s utterly fantastic. Gets me to thinking about early exposures to Japanese noise and how the blunt force crudeness of Gero stuck out from the other guys so much. It’s still the case today.
The booklet has some info about 2020 tour dates printed on it but I can only assume this all got scuppered by covid? Perhaps our Japanese correspondents can give us an insight on that or, indeed, and post-comeback live Gero.
Lots and lots to say about this group. So what do you think? Critical commentary on Juntaro’s seemingly immediate return to totally shady, rip off behaviour as welcome as lavished praise.

Re: The Gerogerigegege
I was listening to the Urashima cassette box version of "Uguisudani Apocalypse" yesterday morning after shelving it when it came out- I have the LP version and it sort of seemed that the cassette was just another issue of the same stuff. Well looks like that is not the case- the album is generally faster, different and rougher versions of all the songs. I figured the B-side would just be the A-side backwards or something since it was just billed as "unreleased take" but no- in fact it's totally unrelated and more classic sounding Gero material, including a couple different live takes of the best pop punk song of all time, Sexual Behaviour Of The Human Male. This is something I can handle having two different versions of.
I really love every era of Gero, and the recent Trilogy Tapes releases are some of my favourite records in the last few years. Even the 10 CD box set, while being quite an endeavour to sit through, is valid as an art object. There are so many other recent tapes and releases that I'm interested in hearing, but I doubt it will be possible to get my hands on them.

I love everything I have ever heard by The Gerogerigegege (even the stolen pop songs). According to their Facebook page, a few new releases should be out soon.

Thanks for highlight, I love this.
Of course everything is just awesome, but for some reason I really love Moenai hai, the weight of the ambient thing after the noiserock is just perfect.

The more I read about this box set, the more I wished I got a copy.totalblack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 8:00 am Even the 10 CD box set, while being quite an endeavour to sit through, is valid as an art object. Is it hard to find now? I see em on ebay etc a fair bit. While I appreciate the Objet D'artness of that whole thing I just knew I wouldn't listen to it and never bought it. I do sometimes think about grabbing it and maybe some day if it becomes dead cheap...but for now I feel its main value is the fact that it exists more than what the listening experience is like and there's only so much Kallax space I can afford items like that. I do also feel there is a sliiiiightly more visible element of the post reformation Gero/Juntaro grift at play with that set which turns me off a little. Same can be said for these numerous alternative versions of albums that seem to appear but nobody ever seems to actually get when they buy them. It's a shame. BUT totalblack's comments about the Urashima version of UA are incredibly interesting. I would need to hear it myself but I wonder where that rougher quality comes from?SS1535 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 4:02 pmThe more I read about this box set, the more I wished I got a copy.totalblack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 8:00 am Even the 10 CD box set, while being quite an endeavour to sit through, is valid as an art object. Returning to the Tokyo Anal Dynamite Singles CD, I had some fun running various Kanji texts on the Discogs page through a translator and searching individual results - lots of escort services, local Tokyo medical centres and references to popular Japanese TV shows in there which just give the whole thing a million times more intrigue and pervy atmosphere. Whatever his trespasses, Yamanouchi remains the king of an unbridled kind of mysterious sleaze all of his own creation.
Re: The Gerogerigegege
I see the box set up for sale every once in a while (always for around the original price). It is just sort of hard to justify spending $100 on 10 cds of sex recordings. I am with you, I guess, on waiting to see if there is ever a price drop (which I doubt).adult human wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 6:01 pmIs it hard to find now? I see em on ebay etc a fair bit. About the griftiness of it, the one thing that clears that away for me personally was (the label's?) description of all of the source recordings being quite old. It gives it a sort of archival/fetishistic feel that justifies the otherwise apparent pointlessness of laying out a reasonably large sum of money on something without any musical additions.
Re: The Gerogerigegege
Love Letter: At some point I realized that every good(citation needed) idea in the field of noise/"art" field has already been realized and executed by The Gerogerigegege. The greatest rock'n'roll band of all time. It's sometimes a bit depressing, but you can just drool in the glory of almighty God. The stupidest and the wisest and the funniest and the saddest noise act of all time.
There could/should be a couple of academic studies on each of Geros releases. But Gero doesn't really operate in the field of words. They have destroyed every word they have used. And it is good. Late Dream Exit must be the best release ever. Or Moenai Hai. Or Senzuri Champion. Or Tokyo Anal Dynamite. Or Wreck of Rock'n'roll Former Self. Or Yellow Trash Bazooka. Or Hell Driver. Or Endless Humiliation... The list goes on, hopefully forever.
http://id3419.securedata.net/artnotart/gero/index2.html someone should update this to 2022! So much has happened since the return of the king.
and the cover of Tokyo Anal Dynamite Singles fucking sucks, it's horrendous and not even in a funny way.
*edit: I accidentally wrote "Late Dream Exit" and I'm not going to fix it.

But he was always more concerned with making his guitar sound like a dying horse, more than anything else.

Re: The Gerogerigegege
It came back and ended again especially for that cover. It is really horrible.
Re: The Gerogerigegege
I treasure my 7" collection. My favourite Gerogerigegege album has always been "Endless Humiliation".
Re: The Gerogerigegege
A very different Gerogerigegege release that no one ever seems to mention is 45RPM Performance. Bass-heavy turntable abuse. Fantastic release in my opinion.

no/everything!

Re: The Gerogerigegege
I just made some field research and came to a conclusion that SENZURI CHAMPION is perfect album to listen to when you wake up still drunk after day gig tour.

I've never seen anyone think it cool to get ripped off by Junataro, nor do I think Ferraro is lacking apologists. Weird comparison tbh.Vast Field Magnetism wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 10:04 pm Ferraro rips you off: Not cool

I've definitely seen/heard both scenarios mentioned on more than one occasion.adult human wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 11:39 amI've never seen anyone think it cool to get ripped off by Junataro, nor do I think Ferraro is lacking apologists. Stupid, half-asleep post nonetheless. I gotta work on some quality control.

Re: The Gerogerigegege
That's really weird. I don't think I've seen any Ferraro rip-off talk since that epic thread that used to be on the Troniks board but it could well still be out there. My thinking was that he's too ingrained in Dalston hipster virtual reality circles now for any of his current fans to care about tapes he never sent 15 years ago but what do I know.Vast Field Magnetism wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 12:24 pm I've definitely seen/heard both scenarios mentioned on more than one occasion.
Definitely have heard much griping about Juntaro not sending things. Anyone that says 'guess it's all part of the Gero experience haha' is probably deserving of the loss.
Re: The Gerogerigegege
The constant talk of Juntaro not sending orders is one of the main reasons I don't own any Gero material (plus the general lack of distro options outside of Japan). I don't have enough money to be part of his performance art or whatever this is!
