Outsider Art April Batch: Ethan McCarthy and Pale World & Blackcloudsummoner

Post by Knifedoutofexistence »

TWO NEW RELEASES OUT TODAY ON OUTSIDER ART:

OA088: Ethan McCarthy - Purple Pain

Image

Purple Pain is a single, half hour long movement from Ethan McCarthy (Many Blessings, Primitive Man). An encompassing and engaging piece, shifting from gentle tranquility to abrasive textures and back again across it’s playing time, recalling dynamic long form noise releases such as Oscillating Innards’ Nadir Emergence, almost feeling like a collection of individual tracks seamlessly weaved together. A recording designed for close headphone listening, and for this reason is presented on pro-dub, stereo cassettes.

OA089: Pale World & Blackcloudsummoner - III

By this point staples of the U.K. noise scene, Pale World & Blackcloudsummoner return to Outsider Art for their third collaboration together. This volume sees them very much in noise mode, electronics burst and splutter over clattering distorted metal, whilst somewhere in the distance deep drones stretch out, only letting up towards the end of the record as slow, lonely piano chords from behind the short-circuit screeches. This is no formless noise jam, it feels carefully composed. A recording of great sonic depth, helped in no small way by a mastering job from another U.K. staple, Foul Prey.
