Shipping rates are another matter entirely, I think. I have, for sure, made larger orders/decided against ordering single items just because of shipping. What I was referring to is the tendency of many labels to sell/market their new releases as "batches," as if they are mass-produced consumer products.Scream & Writhe wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 5:39 pmWhen international shipping rates often prohibit single-tape orders (i.e. ordering 1 tape costs the same as ordering 2-5, or more), batching is the logical answer.

someone should make a project dedicated to all the dislikes mentioned here. Nazi peadophile sitting down at laptop shouting and vocals cannot be heard HNW reddit anime aesthetic noise and tapes dubbed poorly. Oh, there already must be one
But he was always more concerned with making his guitar sound like a dying horse, more than anything else.

I don’t see any problem with a little calm music as a introduction of a track or performance, but using it in intervals of a harsh track just “kills the mood”,
Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
if you're going to perform based on anything, don't present that as something besides your attitude, and don't make it just an "attitude". I'd rather you were opaque about what you really believed than who your audience were.

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
Although it is a finicky thing, I'm largely on the opposite side of this issue. Something like Strict's "Stark Weather" where the delay transforms the vocals into a further whorl of noise is particularly effective, but tight, "wet" slapback effects and trailing echoes also have their place. It can get a bit gratuitous, though: Much as I love Prurient, the echoed whispers on some of his late '00s/early '10s work can get a tad silly now and then.Emil Corbelli wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:30 pm Echo or delay on vocals. On that note, I wish that people were more judicious with the whole whispering thing in PE in general? It works in small doses as a *contrast* to more violent or dynamic vocal approaches, particularly if layered or used as an instrument of sorts, but unless it's really intimate and uncomfortable and you really know how to eke some darker emotion out of it, all spooky mumbling all the time just gets a bit tedious. Sure, it's an improvement over saying you're making "power electronics" and having no vocals at all—you're not Whitehouse making New Britain to make a point so please don't—but I would really rather have wordless moaning or shrieking or buried howls à la Ne Plus Ultra than have to mentally squint at underenunciated spoken word at the expense of the greater noise soundscape.
Come to think of it, that's exactly how I feel about the ooky-spooky croak-whisper in black metal as well, which is I think part of where this trend came from.

Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
IMVHO what's key to anything subversive is not making quick and foolish assumptions about your audience. if someone is making art to challenge e.g. misogyny, and mistakes my everyday sexism (that I have used the b word to describe a woman) for something other than it is, then all they are going to do is alienate anyone who "gets it". that doesn't make me angry, but... maybe that's why Rice was drawn to bona fide Neo nazis, I dunno, the ability to make extreme commentary without coming off like you're just "picking a fight", knives or not, with someone you don't like.

Hostel egocentric marketing in which artists diminish their strength and credibility to repeatedly demand that people and or allies paying attention “buy their new shit”.

I don’t know if this defeats the object of an ambiguity which may or may not have been intended but I’d like to hear you elaborate on these two point. I’m not sure I quite get it.oZiris wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 5:07 pm Hostel egocentric marketing in which artists diminish their strength and credibility to repeatedly demand that people and or allies paying attention “buy their new shit”.

That last one sounds like a weird porn genre I probably don't want to know about.

Definitely not wanting a link, so don't even try it.

that watery wobbly vocal effect a lot of PE uses. no matter how good the noise is, I just can't when that vocal effect comes on...
Re: Dislikes and turnoffs
I think I met an art forger in holiday in France. it was a guy who ran a restaurant next to a gallery which had recently found, and then realised were forgeries, some artworks by a famous, and oft derided, artist. I claim this on the grounds merely that he was clearly an artist and being really suspicious about it. how would you change the noise world, if you could?
I would, I suppose, add water and stir.

EXCERPTS on bandcamp. at least say if it it's the beginning of the track, imho.
I'd be happier purchasing something based on the start than a suspicion that it'll sound cool with the rest of it.

Instagram filter album covers. Just don’t do it.

I'm probably the only one that feels this way, but it's.a huge turn off for me when someone uses their album art to be provocative about how good their sex life is. it's a really common thing, and almost always makes me want to wretch. I don't mind if it's ironised in some ways, and I don't mind porn, but if you want to attract women by boasting about sex, keep it out my face and join tinder or something.
