Noise Rock (Touch & Go, AmRep, Skin Graft, etc)

Post by xIncorruptibleCorpse777x »

Anybody else here a fan of this stuff? It seems to have been undergoing a bit of a renaissance as of late. Here are some of my favorite newer acts...

Coilguns (La Chaux De Fonds, Switzerland)
(One of the best bands in the genre right now.)
https://coilguns.bandcamp.com

Hissing Tiles (Cincinnati, OH)
(formerly known as Gazer, very good band with more progressive socio-political lyrics)

https://gladfact.bandcamp.com/album/gf006

Chat Pile (Oklahoma City, OK)
(DON'T be put off by the name... this is one of the best bands in the genre right now.)
https://chatpile.bandcamp.com

Woodstock '99 (Cleveland, OH)
(Name is clearly ridiculous, but I was incredibly surprised by how good they are. They have my highest recommendation.)

Pillärs (Cleveland, OH)
(I don't know what it is with my home state, but we seem to have a lot of good noise rock.)

Don't know if Cuntroaches counts because they don't sound like Nirvana (bad joke) but I love this.

If anyone can recommend noise rock that sounds something like Harry Pussy, I would be grateful!
But he was always more concerned with making his guitar sound like a dying horse, more than anything else.

Cuntroaches were (are?) incredible. I went to a fest in Berlin hoping that they’d be one of the bands I would get to see, but turns out they’d booked a U.K. tour at the same time. The noise rock band I was in at the time ended up playing with them back home with a fill in for me while I was in Berlin. Still annoys me to think about.

Hopefully they still are! Would love to see them live.

They most likely broke up. Gretchen went on to other projects and I haven't heard from Robbie in a while.
If I would have to recommend one noise rock project especially today I would highly do so by suggesting anything by To Live And Shave In LA

I'd say Intensive Care fit in here even though they are on the more heavy end of this spectrum. Definitely one of the best bands going.

I’m a huge fan of this type of stuff. Especially Amrep! Great to see some suggestions. I’d love to find some good stuff like that.

Amrep is cool but not in regards to reissuing key fucking headcleaning noise rock albums not marketed as instant collectibles with terrible re-imagining of cover art. ie Cherubs Heroin Man

Well, yeah, they only exist now to do reissues. I bought the repress $5 Cherubs Heroin Man CD and Unsane's Scattered... CD for the same amount.

The $5 CDs are about all I’ve bought from Amrep in a long time. Not interested in paying $$ and waiting at the website to hope to buy something before it sells out in 3 minutes. I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio through most of the 90’s and most of those bands came through on tour and the records were available. Amrep is a whole different marketing label now.

Haha, I know. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen the Cows. Saw Unsane several times too. Jesus Lizard always seemed to be coming through too.

Unsane 1st line up were unmatched! terrifyingly loud and real bad vibes. i saw a show and they got into a physical fight with each other on stage haha

Nice. I saw that line up once. No on stage fighting but it was a great show.

I haven’t heard the most recent Unsane album but is seems like they have consistently delivered great stuff since the beginning.

USA/MEXICO
Members of Shit and Shine and Butthole Surfers. Impossibly sludgy noise rock.. slow and thick, like drowning in cough syrup. Just fucking pummeling stuff. Probably my favorite active band.
