Atrax Morgue's 'HOMICIDAL'

Post by My Face, Her Knee Pads »

Despite the title, there's a striking submissiveness present in Homicidal. It's not that it's apologetic, but that it's quietly self-devastated. Take, for instance, the lyrics of "To Play": "I really hope that you like this game." Marco's not taking "no" for an answer, but he's also not just thinking about himself. The weary pleading for access in "I Want to Know More" and the reference to seeing a psychiatrist in "Something Bad" are further examples. The submissiveness, then, goes two ways: submission to your own nature and to the idea that other people won't be benefited by coming into contact with it. The synths only emphasise these sentiments. There's a quality to the sound that's not just electronic, but also electrical, with drones sizzling and whirring in a way which evokes tinnitus, but tinnitus as a result of a deafening explosion of the self. This tape represents reaching a point where simply being yourself is as effortless as it is crushing. No wonder I relate to it.
Often laughed at or formally complained about.
