Trophy rules. For me Bloodyminded is one of those classic "live bands" that you have to see in person to fully experience.

And yeah, I'm stupid for not realizing the content.

Request for mods to delete this thread. It went completely off the rails and it's my fault.

I must have missed something... what's the problem? I see no issue with talking about Bloodyminded or whatever any of their albums are about...

Re: Where do I start with Bloodyminded?
I think the OP feels weird about having made this thread without realising what Bloodyminded were all about content wise. I dare say some of the snarky responses compound this. But it's asinine as fuck to suggest you should have just 'known' what it was all about before going in. Even the biggest fans of Bloodyminded at one point had no fucking idea what it sounded like or what the songs were about. Good on OP for having the guts to say they aren't into it despite its classic status.

This has already gone off the rails, so here's some comfy shitposting to add a bit of levity:
Re: Where do I start with Bloodyminded?
Got it. Yes, respect to OP for being honest about how they feel about things. However, this thread will not be deleted - please discuss BLOODYMINDED! Haven't listened to Trophy in ages. I actually heard it quoted a million times in conversation when hanging out with PE meatheads in Milkwaukee before ever hearing the album. It definitely does not disappoint! Great relatively clean production, great minimal electronics, great lyrics and delivery that are ultra quotable, frightening and hilarious.

cock esp became a Comedy Band because he thought it was so funny.
this thread seems pretty On The Rails from my perspective!

That song Chinatown makes me hungry for some duck, the type that's hanging by the hook in the window, skinned and cleaned. Oh and some some ginseng root tea to keep me on top.
The fact Solotoff insists its not a joke kind of keeps it funny. Did they ever replace the Roland MC202s?

I mean, what’s the problem? It’s totally fine to express curiosity/interest in an artist, and then decide it doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, after all. In fact ist’t that what forums like this are all about?

Re: Where do I start with Bloodyminded?
The actual best place to start is probably the 'Mothercare' CD single. It's three tracks in less than 90 seconds, so you'll get an impression of the sound/vibe/content very quickly. The 'West/Mantra' single is longer but also a good representation of their sound.
'Trophy' is the one I return to most often. There's quite a lot of blatant humour in the lyrical approach to its subject matter. The dark atmosphere is offset by how silly and over the top the delivery gets. I also particularly like the short 'blast' style tracks which only last a few seconds. Lots of fun to listen to.
'Magnetism' is the first one which got my attention and I'd recommend it as a good place to start also. I'd pick it as their best overall, actually. There aren't any lyrics to the songs, the vocals are all wordless screams. The song titles are suggestive and unsettling but I believe they were all directly inspired by people the group knew closely, and by first hand experiences they'd had. That places the themes used in a different context than a straight exploitation of disturbing subjects.
I haven't listened to the two newest albums - this thread has reminded me to look into them - but my impression is they are covering different topics and taking a less confrontational approach nowadays. So may be worth investigating to hear the sounds without the conceptual baggage.
Seeing them play London in 2007 was one of my favourite experiences of watching live music, just a total blast start to finish, and possibly the only time I've seen an actual moshpit break out for a noise set.
