Record store & show noise scores

Post by xIncorruptibleCorpse777x »

Not all of us have to resort solely to mailorder and I thought I'd make a separate thread for that.

Anyhow, I bought this today at Torn Light:

Incapacitant - Oxen Man's Uneasiness CD (Oxen)

And since I didn't get to celebrate it with anyone, shortly before Christmas, I got these at Torn Light:

Burning Star Core - Recycled CS (RRR)
Burning Star Core - Statue of Trust CS (Dronedisco)
Incapacitants - Recycled CS (RRR)
New Monuments - Language Is The Skin CD (Torn Light)

I rarely make a solid noise score locally since I moved cities a year and a half ago - I went through my discogs for the last year and found a few cool things I picked up at local shops or around town

Hair Police - Prescribed Burning LP ($9, Into The Abyss)
Nitzer Ebb - That Total Age LP ($5 at a flea market)
Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music DLP ($30 at the Hamilton Supercrawl)
Einstürzende Neubauten - Drawings Of O.T. (2 LP version with cooler artwork)

[non-noise incoming]
Non-noise scores I made locally, some very fun items.... persistence is key!!
Willie Nelson - The Troublemaker ($8 Records On Wheels, Dundas)
V/A - A Farewell to Arms comp ($10 It's Alright Ma Records)
Dr. John - In The Right Place ($20, Where Heads Meet headshop)
Butthole Surfers - Cream Corn 12" ($15, Flashbacks)
Rainbow - On Stage DLP ($12, Revolution Records)
Boris - Pink DLP ($20 at a local record fair)
Circle Jerks - Wild in the Streets OG ($20 same record fair)
Both Righteous Pigs LPs ($15 each, same record fair)
Svart Framtid 7" (2011 reissue for TWO DOLLARS, Revolution Records)

Bottom line if Taylor wasn't doing his thing I'd roll myself up in a mouldy carpet and throw myself into the lake.... the shipping would finish me off!!

The local record store used to have a remarkably good selection of import records.

I found my first edition copies of SPK's Leichenshrei and the Mars EP there.

Plenty of other exciting finds: Skinny Puppy, Suburban Lawns, various EBM/post-industrial 12" singles, a couple of Residents records, TG's Heathen Earth, a copy of Nigel Pepper Cock's FWRKYA 7" (this was before it had become an inflated collector's item... I think they were relieved to be getting rid of it!), a 12-cent copy of Dif Juz's Time Clock Turn Back tape, the bulk of my Smiths vinyl (mainly 12" singles), on and on. But the SPK and Mars records are likely the most noteworthy, "noise-adjacent" things I've found.

I spent so much fucking VA money there and then I dropped out of college without ever finishing my degree... What a disgrace!

Someone offloaded a bunch of tapes at the store I frequent, and I picked up Winters In Osaka - Red Passage, Mass Marriage - Secrets & Moisture Discipline - Snake Drilling for about $2 each. Really stoked on that.

I just stopped at Sit & Spin (my local store in Philadelphia) today, and picked up the following:

Work/Death - The Approach (Chondritic Sound)
Pete Swanson & Greh Holger - Dead Inside/Dead Outside (Chondritic Sound)
DJ Speedsick - Dance with the Devil (Bank Records NYC)

Already played through the Chondritic tapes, and they rule.

I once found "May All Be Dead" DLP by Brighter Death Now in a used punk section for $5 - I guess they thought it was a Crass rip off band or something.

Years and years ago I found Dilloway's "Modern Jester" DLP for like $12 in a used section too. That was great.

I've found copies of albums released on Cold Meat Industry in used CD bins for 50 cents before.

I want to go to Torn Light so bad. I get multiple packages from them every month.

My local store doesn’t have much noise wise, unless something comes in used which happens once or twice a year. I’ll usually go to Redscroll Records in Connecticut or Material World in Brooklyn, both are about an hour and a half from me.

We just last night had Tongue Depressor in town who played an incredible set. I decided to pick up 2 of the solo/collab LPs rather than any of their actual recordings though. Came away with:

Zach Rowden - When the Gloss is Removed
Henry Birdsey/Max Eilbacher - Bell Formations

Haven't had a chance to spin yet but I'm looking forward to it.

Last month I happened to find two unopened Pierpaolo Zoppo albums in record store clearance racks: MO - Raising Vapours CD on Bloodlust for $3 in Ottawa, and Lyoto Music LP on Urashima for $15 in Toronto. (PS- What is the name "Lyoto Music" likely a reference to?)

At my local record store (Lou's in Encinitas, California)---which I almost never go to in the first place---I recently found a copy of the No Music Festival 1999 comp. I have only just started to dig into it, but I like the array of sounds I have heard and see promised on the track listing. The kazoo is still in it's packaging a whole 24 years after its release too.
