Vegan Noise
Vegan Noise
I asked about this a while ago in another thread, but maybe a dedicated one might turn up more. Merzbow and Bastard Noise are the obvious big names here, but I have also recieved suggestions to check out Strangled Cop.

Re: Vegan Noise
How does one convey veganism through noise?
Re: Vegan Noise
By not using any animal parts as a sound source (rules out Einstürzende Neubauten's "Durstiges Tier," at least).

Re: Vegan Noise
The same as one conveys any idea through noise: you don’t but say you do.

What's sad is that his music generally became less interesting after he made the change (while, at the same time, rejecting his past interests in pornography).luciferjonez wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 1:23 pmI'm not a diehard Merzbow fan, this is the first I'm hearing about it.

I have heard on good authority that his contract now stipulates that he can cancel a show and still get paid if any of his doves or chickens are sick.

Porn really does rot your brain. And I'm not even saying that from a religious perspective.

But he was always more concerned with making his guitar sound like a dying horse, more than anything else.

Re: Vegan Noise
I wasn't trying to dispute that (which is obviously a fact), so much as point out what seems to me to be a distinct musical change that occured about the time he became straight edge/vegan. From reading the Merzbook, he seemed like a guy who had more than enough brain rot for a lifetime. hahaxIncorruptibleCorpse777x wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 12:31 amSS1535 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 1:40 pmWhat's sad is that his music generally became less interesting after he made the change (while, at the same time, rejecting his past interests in pornography).luciferjonez wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 1:23 pm

Oh, I know. I just felt like chiming in, as I'm sure that opinion is not shared by many noise artists, lol

This is flat-out wrong. Porn does not rot our brain anymore than any other digital media does in its current form.xIncorruptibleCorpse777x wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 12:31 amSS1535 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 1:40 pmWhat's sad is that his music generally became less interesting after he made the change (while, at the same time, rejecting his past interests in pornography).luciferjonez wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 1:23 pm

We can split hairs about some questionable content being psychologically bad but I think equating a really natural impulse (sex and representations of various sexual interests) as brain-rotting is really not the right way to look at the topic of pornography.

(At least for the vast majority of consumers. I will gladly make exceptions for geniuses like Sotos, Cooper, Bizarre Uproar, etc.)

Re: Vegan Noise
Can we define "pornography"? Mostly joking, and not a fan of the porn industry, despite acknowledging that I use and rarely resist allowing myself to be used by it... I have no romantic or lofty ideas about sex, even for procreation, either. We're just stupid chimps. And a sex drive with a few uniquely homo-sapien twists is just something still hardwired in my otherwise obviously broken brain that I can't shake, even though sex sometimes seems repulsuve and idiotic to me...
But the subject of "x rots your brain" is such a complicated, multi-tiered one. Who is selling, and what actually? Who is buying, and do they know what they're getting, or, even worse, are they the ones feeding a corrupt industry giving them EXACTLY what they want?
This is genuinely not intended as an apologetic, false-good faith effort to confuse the question or to defend the "actual" porn industry, particulary hardcore porn, and especially not your JM's (Serious "whore-hating serial kill" bait. Let's just say that, if I first heard of your company thru efukt, I know you must be literal psychopaths. Despite whatever nihilistic mood you may be in at any given time, it's not so nice or funny to see how the sausage gets made unless you're a legitimate sadist) or your Gag the Fags...
But there's a version of that thread running all the way up to/through the most seemingly vanilla "family vloggers" on YT and influencers on Instagram, religious institutions, the cult of pop science and psychology, "WE'RE ALL MADE OF STARS, AAAAHHHHH! WOWWWW!" crowd etc. It's not always so brazenly malicious behind the scenes in these "tiers" of pornography. But then we have to complicate the issue further with our own individual/cultural/philosophical/spiritual convictions.
I guess what I'm trying to say as that it's all bad. There is a vile current running through almost everything man "puts his mind" (in)to. Most everything that promises escape or an alternative to reality (here comes the big, scary spectre of subjective objectivity again), and presents a fantasy image of what's going on behind the scenes is, colliquially speaking, mind-rotting shit. And the stuff that tries to "up the ante" by being "brutally honest and real" (Ryan Sullivan's Island or sites like Documenting Reality come to mind) are just appealing to a more niche audience of consumers. Not those who want to escape into their own fantasies, but to live vicariously through the trauma of others, or else wallow in it, numbed to it, or else seeking reassurances for their own dark inner truths. Sadists and sucidal depressives, in other words.
I hope we can all be friends. Theists and atheists, consumers and eschewers. We're all guilty.
I'm not even that drunk right now...

Re: Vegan Noise
All very good points. That's why I find people like Sotos and Cooper to be so interesting. They begin with what look like such "niche" interests, but can then manage to show that what is otherwise spurned by mainstream culture is actually an everpreset core component of it.Bubble-Congeries wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 10:14 pm Can we define "pornography"?
