This band was fucking crazy live. Saw them in a dive bar probably around '09 or '10. Drummer was a monster and had just quit his band Pride Tiger, who I think had members of Three Inches Of Blood doing Thin Lizzy worship.holy ghost wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 5:57 pm I was just thinking today that HAGGATHA might be one of the most overlooked bands in this genre. Is it because they’re Canadian? In particular V is SO GOOD and fucking bleak as fuck.

Pride Tiger was hugely underrated IMO.yullowteef wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 1:03 pmThis band was fucking crazy live. Saw them in a dive bar probably around '09 or '10. He's got a new project with the guitarist Shane Clark (also from 3IOB). which I recommend highly!

Haggatha IV is the best slow metal record from Canada.
Saw them so many times, but them teasing material from IV at Antisocial sometime in 2012 (maybe twice, even?) with their Wipers cover was for sure the best.

Solothus “Realm of Ash and Blood” on 20BS has been getting a ton of play lately. I love Conan comics and books but that shit rarely translates well musically - this sounds like a super grim S&S epic set to the darkest doom.

New Primitive Man record goes off. Negative vibes abound. They're including more noise elements again, which is nice. Saw them last week and it looked like they had a small modular rack on a table on stage with them.

My band Iron & Stone released a new EP last friday, called "Mountains & Waters". No slude, more stoner-/desertrock.

Got it the other day. If they hadn’t told me it was a smashing pumpkins cover I would never have known…..yullowteef wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:37 pm New Primitive Man record goes off. Surprised no one has mentioned Indian. Excellent balance of sludge/doom and noise. Other favorites are Primitive Man and Unearthly Trance.

Final two tracks from Vancouver, BC's GOATSBLOOD on cassette/digital out now:
(use the code "15coals" for 15% off until the 31st as well...).
Hugely influential band for me. "Drull" is a top 10 album. Just absolutely bleak sounding, chaotic stuff!

Great suggestion -- digging "Drull," thank you!33033 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 4:01 pm

Great record - I have lost my CD copy over the years. I remember Blair used to make everyone absolutely crazy on the Relapse board a million years ago, always posting about wearing aviator sunglasses....

Haha, last I saw him IRL he tried to sneak into see Guitar Wolf at Sled Island and he got kicked out :(holy ghost wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 7:49 pm

Burning Witch folded and three of em started Sunn. After the demos were made Stuart left, later forming ASVA with Burning Witch drummer Brad. Not in the bleak category, very slow motion depressed pop I wld describe it. One time I offered Stuart my observation, he smiled in response.
ASVAs split 12” with Burning Witch includes Dylan Carlson of Earth on guitar. This 12” and the first CD/2LP and the enterruption 12” are my favorites.

GASP from Los Angeles are another favorite of mine. Drome Trilor of the Puzzle Zoo People has to be one of the weirder more fucked up records released by Slap A Ham, imo.
They’ve been back together for a solid minute now tho I haven’t rlly caught up with them yet.
Gravitar: heavy heavy noise rock group from Michigan, highly underrated or unknown, you decide. Three mind-blowing CDs & a 7” on Charnel Music (label of Mason Jones), a fantastic side on a split 12” with (John Olson’s) Universal Indians are the bees-knees. Their later releases are great, a weirder form of mutant blues rears into the din. I think they’re still ahead of their time.

Singer Geoff was a frequent collaborator with Blue Sabbath Black Cheer. & Gravitar was a big influence on BSBC as well. The BSBC name comes from them axtually.
original guitarist Harold is the gtrist for Negative Approach and (John Brannon’s) Easy Action.

Full on Dark Buddha Rising trip going on.
Every night so far on this tour that I've started to listen to music in my private coffin, I go straight to Dark Buddha Rising.
Droney, dark, evil, twisted.
Love it.

Friend said few weeks ago "We should play some really nasty sludge that has absolutely nothing joyful in it like Toadliquor, Corrupted, Khanate, Disrotted etc" and Im just waiting when we get a chance to go and play. Been kinda wanting a sludge project like that for a while now.

Re: Doom/Sludge/Drone/Stoner/etc
One of my absolute favorites from the last decade has been Cough. I don't think anyone comes close to taking the Sabbath sound and bending it toward a psychological break. I think these guys are done, hopefully not, but wish they would put something new out. Sigillum Luciferi and Ritual Abuse are stone-cold perfect albums and I still spin them regularly. Still I Pray was good but couldn't touch the first two in my opinion.
For Sludge, want to back and give shout outs to Meth Drinker and Medicine Noose. Both bands nail that filthy sound with the perfect Noothgrush influence.

^^ All good choices!
Saw Cough live 10(?) years ago with Witch Mountain at a small club. Was really good!
I remember first time hearing Meth Drinker. It made me slightly uncomfortable at first where I knew that I'm gonna like this haha!
Medicine Noose played in my hometown some years ago and sadly missed them because of work.
