queer noisesters unite
queer noisesters unite
yeah!! I find so much joy and pleasure in DIY experimental music as a queer person. I feel liberated from the limitations of my body and the dominating heteropatriarchal white supremacist neoliberal capitalist what-not shit culture. But there is also the aspects of discrimination within the scenes; the misogyny, transphobia and other shitty stuff is pretty deeply written in our DIY experimental music scenes, especially in noise and PE.
I don't feel like I need to write a very deep introduction to the topic; feel free to express your thoughts on topic. It'd be wonderful if you linked some noise with a queer aspect to it.

Pain Chain rules, and all the BLJ/Matzus-Ramirez stuff of course. The Distraxi CDr on Bent Window is quite nice. Mutual Aid and Flesh Prison (yeah yeah yeah we all know what they did) are labels run by queer people. Wound Botulism as well I think, run by the person behind Monolithic Torment? Right now I can't remember all the names I wan't to drop here.
I wonder if Camille Auer has uploaded any "heavier" stuff online, she played a fucking LOUD face melting set in Turku a couple years ago.

Whole pe/noise/industrial genre is pioneered by queer people (throbbing gristle) and don't forget about the gerogerigegege!
But he was always more concerned with making his guitar sound like a dying horse, more than anything else.

Slow Murder is a project I’ve played with loads and put a couple of tapes out for. A very dear, and very queer, friend of mine:

Re: queer noisesters unite
The ones that come to mind are: Straight Panic, everything Richard and Sean does, also Visitation (HNW from Australia and used to run the labels: Needle and Knife, Palinopsia Recordings & Tension Collapse), I've worked with all of them and they are great people. I would highly recommend Visitation if you are into HNW since Shaun doesn't get much attention these days and I think it's really good stuff. I released this double cdr back in 2018: https://moderndecadence.bandcamp.com/al ... -connected also the Visitation / Transgresia tape on Ominous is really good: https://ominousrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-13

Thanks for the link, I didn't knew Shaun had a personal Bandcamp, for Tension Collapse label there was no Bandcamp, talking about that label I would recommend the Mental Wreckage "Opposite Side Of The Road" reissue tape, HN from Richard Ramirez really good tape.htp_systems wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:08 am Glad to see some mention of Visitation. Re: queer noisesters unite
As far as I know, all labels are defunct, Palinopsia Recordings was closed to give space for Tension Collapse but that was short lived, and Needle and Knife I'm not sure, also it's a HNW only label, you would need to ask Shaun.D345 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 2:16 pmDoes Shaun run any label anymore?MND wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 11:05 am The ones that come to mind are: Straight Panic, everything Richard and Sean does, also Visitation (HNW from Australia and used to run the labels: Needle and Knife, Palinopsia Recordings & Tension Collapse), I've worked with all of them and they are great people. I think this is latest of their labels? Don't know why to make a new label now and then. Good works nonetheless, love Shauns collage art.

Re: queer noisesters unite
yes, kinda. of course stuff like gloss, hirs or limp wrist slaps hard but usually when an artist/bands only theme is that "we're here and we're queer" i usually just give my thumbs up and don't bother following them a lot more. though i think it's important as long as prejudice exists that those kind of bands/projects exist as well.Eighth Pillar wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 10:20 am Does anybody else feel this way about queer music, and/or art in general?
Re: queer noisesters unite
yeah, same. But I feel it is important to take up space as queer or a member of any minority group in the white cis het male dominated space/subculture.raato wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 11:52 amyes, kinda. of course stuff like gloss, hirs or limp wrist slaps hard but usually when an artist/bands only theme is that "we're here and we're queer" i usually just give my thumbs up and don't bother following them a lot more. though i think it's important as long as prejudice exists that those kind of bands/projects exist as well.Eighth Pillar wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 10:20 am Does anybody else feel this way about queer music, and/or art in general?

I never knew about this label, so I have no idea if this is Shaun's latest label. Agreed on the artwork.D345 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 4:17 pmThere's also this https://emptywarehouse.bandcamp.com/

For sure!Does anybody else feel this way about queer music, and/or art in general?
I guess I'll back up a bit; hi! Nice to see I'm not totally shouting in the dark (still?), and this sort of dialogue is wholly what started STRAIGHT PANIC way back when. Having said that, the project as a whole has become more personal/less-focused when contrasted to the earlier tapes like Jouissance, Stalker, Sling, and Mapplethorpe. I found myself repeating myself in a sense, and allowed a bit more of my obsessions and neuroses to seep in.
I think that kind of "punk mentality" is important, but it wasn't for me, as far as my own creative satisfaction and drive was concerned!
I'd also recommend checking out:
Closer Bones, Grutesk, Niku Daruma, Moonbeam Terror, Cum Gutter, Carrion Eater, Body Stress
To remain quiet like a dead gull at low tide.
