Merzbow Reissue Wishlist

Post by holy ghost »

With so many deluxe fancy Merzbow reissues happening (and no hate, I am here for it) what do you hope is coming out next? LP, CD or whatever crazy thing they dream up.

I am a big fan of Hybrid Noisebloom, that Urashima recent reissue caught me totally off guard and listening to my CD copy I am super excited for it to arrive. Plus I know there’s Aqua Necromancer happening soon that I’m also excited for.

I’d love to see the obvious choices like Space Metalizer, Taurotmachine and some that I haven’t heard like Noizhead. There are a ton of 90’s ones that aren’t as easy to track down - I don’t always want to chance spending big bucks on these. I love these LP reissues but I’d be 100% willing to take nice CDs if they were easy to find.

My wild card is I’m a big fan of Merzbuddha and I’d love to see that get a sexy reissue.

What else is most deserving of a 2022 update?

Animal Magnetism! It was the first Merzbow and the first noise album I ever heard. Would love to see an LP!

The LP reissues are really nice and I do but the ones that I don’t already have. But. Some of them would be better in the original CD format. Putting them on an LP breaks up from the original tracks. Would definitely like CD reissues of ones originally on CD. What to reissue? 90’s ones that were harder to get.

Reading discogs comments apparently Relapse said something coy like “could happen anytime” or some shit like that.

Seeing what a fantastic job Helicopter/Troniks do with CD reissues I would love to see these get the same treatment. I don’t need everything on 180g gatefold vinyl with an art print and a wooden box, I would be so happy with easy cheap CD reissues.

Like I bought that Noisembryo DLP from Hospital and that’s great (and then I just ordered the double CD for the extra disc too) but in these dark days of insane shipping costs and dubious obserseas delivery options I would possibly just opt for the CD. Like there’s shit in my discogs want list and the CDs are $60+ and even if they look cool and it will impress my wife that I bought ANOTHER rare Merzbow CD I would also be way happy to buy it new and knock another one off my list.

I’d also love “Last of the Analog Sessions” to get reissued - the 90’s era is definitely my favourite. I had to pass on the “Collection 1-10” CD box recently as I don’t always connect with the 80s stuff the way I do with stuff like Noisembryo or Venerology.

I also don’t think this needs a reissue as it’s probably available for like $3 used but the “Frog Remix” album is so killer. I want to fish that out today and give it a listen. I remember the Boris track being particularly great.

Flare Gun just got rereleased by an Australian label compiled with the 7" White Blues and some extra material

It is not exactly a rerelease as the material is not the same. The original Flare Gun is nearly 30 minutes, the Flare Gun material on this Flare Blues vinyl is about 20 minutes. Room40 uses words like "reimagine", "revisit", "recontextualize" which basically means it was edited. Could have said "Flare Gun and White Blues remixed" but that wouldn't have sounded so flashy :) A great release in any case!

Looks like Important Records heard the call of the Merzbow CD once again - Merzbeat and Material Actual 2 getting CD reissues as well as one more I forget.

In regards to Important I really did love that 13 Japanese Birds thing - I ordered it as a set after the wooden box sold out and got a free Merzbow tote bag, a piece of a painting by Masami and a bonus CD-R! That was a sick mail day.

Aurora Central is doing Merzbeat on LP as well.

Aqua Necromancer is literally just around the corner from yours truly.

Looking forward to Aqua Necromancer!

Would also love to see vinyl additions of the Tzadik releases:
1930
Sphere

Other notable mentions:
The Science Of Dissecting Society with Richard Ramirez
Noizhead
Animal Magnetism - already mentioned by 33033 - but agree. Would love to see on LP. Listened to that one a lot when it came out.

Amlux would be great because that CD is just that thin little slimline cardboard case. You know, which was the style at the time….

Awesome. Thank you. I'm going to watch their stock

Yeah, super cheap to produce. I mean, the CD itself is even duplicated, not replicated. It probably cost next to nothing to make these copies. But I still love my copy

I'd love to see an expanded CD reissue of ZaRa, perhaps with additional period-speciffic/remixed work.

It's to my mind a very overlooked, under-celebrated release with a relatively "different" sound.

I'd also very much appreciate a CD anthology/set of anthologies of original 7"/split material from the early 90's period. (Maybe this exists and I just missed it?)

Would also appreciate simple, high-volume (pressing quantity, that is), standard CD reissues of big-time classics like PD and Tauromachine... Have you ever listened to that album in the car? You will have an accident! Super disorienting, and seemingly mastered specifically for car stereos!
