This new tape doesn’t disappoint, and it’s been great to watch the project evolve over the last 7 years after meeting him in Halifax when the project was fresh. looking forward to more.
Backing Brett up here, as we were at some of Matt's early shows here in Halifax. I love Matt''s old stuff - and he has definitely evolved and fine tuned his work from there, both live and recording-wise. And the nicest guy on the planet haha. Love sitting down for a catch up with him when I can.

Jeph Jerman - Debitage CS (Unread Records & Tapes)
Darksmith Of California - Island Of Stability CS (No Rent)
Sewer Election - Skärvor Av LP (Second Sleep)
The Jeph Jerman "Debitage" is excellent. Still waiting on a physical copy, but have been listening to my digital copy all last week as I worked.
Have that new Darksmith of California coming in from Taylor. Also looking forward to checking out.

I've been listening to the new Le Syndicat - The Last Empire (Bacteria Field) this AM. Heavy dub industrial with a hip hop undercurrent (not sure if what i'm hearing is turntablism or cassette tape..ism)..drum breaks, lots of samples, moments of noisiness but a very musical tape. I love it. The tape itself is kinda quiet so pump it to fully experience.

Con-Dom \ Militia - Scorched Earth Policy CS (Old Europa Cafe)

got this a while ago and forgot to play it. looks like the previous owner forgot to do that as well. i’m going to give all my Militia releases another play while waiting for the re-recordings of “The Black Flag Hoisted” to show up.

Death Squad - Evidence Object #8 (c60, no label, 2021) - Archival DS recordings from '95 that seems to have flown under everyone's radar.
A-side is VERY primitive microphone/feedback divination. Cosmic emptiness punctuated by Michael's hellish, blown-out yelps.
B-side is edits from a tape labeled "Trevor/Michael, Dec. '95 - Shrooms". More mic abuse + in-room shuffling, stoned laughter, bits of conversation, reactions to malfunctions, etc. meld into a surprisingly coherent piece of bizarro noise.

I'm behind on listening to this but my copies sold rather quickly, and I think Michael's own did as well. With an edition of 47 copies, it might be more of it remaining unmentioned (and buried in the couple dozen owner's perpetual new arrivals stacks) than under the radar. I'll try get into the deck soon!

Last night.

Sel`m - "Kreise" (Opal Tapes).
Massively saturated drone and bass. Label Description - "Coming off like a completely unforgiving hybrid of Emptyset and Mörder Machine" - don`t disagree, Last year`s double 12" was ace too.

Blackhaine and Richie Culver - "Did U Cum Yet / I'm Not Gonna Cum" (Participant)
Grim northern English "rap" over minimal electronics. Sounds more like Intrinsic Action than what most would define as hip-hop.

His latest work on buried in slag and debris, sounding a bit less "washed-up" than former releases, still excellent.
It's amazing how hi-fi his tapeloops sound to be honest. I wonder if that's all post-production.

Yeah, I've been intrigued for a long time about it. I know some guys can make wonders on murk (sir Vanhala and sir Dassum did on some of my own stuff that was recorded rather poorly) but it takes some proper skills. I'll never have them since I'm seriously deaf but I need to know!

Listened to the new Nuori Veri CD last saturday. It was quite late, I had had a few drinks and was watching some Siberian urban exploration videos on mute at the same time, so did not give it as much attention as I think it probably deserves, mostly the lyrics. There was a very Finnish quality to it, reminding me of radio or TV theater both in execution and the sounds used. Also it seemed older, a relic of the past. Knowing the person who does Nuori Veri pretty well and having visited where he records, the enviroment is very rural and isolated. It has a quality of liminality, a place between the modern and the archaic. Same quality runs thru this project I think. It's a shame non-Finnish speakers don't understand the lyrics, but also can't read the book he released last year. They are somehow related works I believe. Very interesting release that warrants multiple listens.

awesome band. the singer makes gorenoise, too. name is probably familiar to most users on this forum, hah. unfortunate but at least it's spelled a little bit differently.

Listening to the new Knurl, which just dropped from Total Black. I'm a big fan of the project, as I like "junk-noise" a lot. Enjoying it so far...

Had this thrown in with an order. I feel like I’ve seen Crank Sturgeon in Victoria, but I’m having trouble remembering when that was? Maybe I’m totally mixed up. Anyway I keep forgetting about 3” CDs/CD-Rs as a format…kinda neat
