Linekraft - Asura (Tesco, 2021)
Cursory searches do not reveal much discourse about this which is a shame. Though Linekraft is not usually my kind of thing I can, a handful of times a year, thoroughly enjoy throwing an album on. I was very struck by the imagery and themes used here which refer to the Ketsumeidan and League of Blood incident. It may not be obvious to many but much of the Japanese script on the cover art is derived from images of the object of worship relevant to the Nichiren buddhist sect, of whom the Ketsumeidan were extremist members. This is an interesting topic to me for many reasons and something I often think I'd like to see from more Japanese noise/PE artists. Though a single extreme, terror wing is of course an interesting topic, the way such a batshit, nationalist, puritanical form of Buddhism established by a heretical, exiled monk has influenced the wider world and Japanese society is truly fascinating and creepy. It's not possible for me to understand exactly in what direction Linekraft is taking the angle but I appreciate it greatly as a source of ideas and images.
Sonically the record really nails its theme to the wall with lots of samples of the key Nichiren chanting mantra and, presumably, speech recordings relevant to the topic. Some very maniacal vocals are present toward the end which fit perfectly. This is an incredibly Japanese sounding album all in all, despite the European Industrial influence. Like most Linekraft you hear clearer strong like structures and repetitions than other people might be bold enough to use, and it works very well. It really is a pretty idiosyncratic project. Things don't ever sound too harsh to my ears, but rather rough and gloomy, with deceptively minimal tools at use. There is a genuinely unsettling atmosphere produced here that works on a compositional as well as thematic level. I feel that I'll probably end up throwing this on a few more times before the day is out.

New Puce Mary tapes. Everything regarding these tapes seemed to be such a mess that I was surprised they even arrived at all. Of course, the dubs are rather poor and one of the tapes is too short so the tape runs out a minute or two too early on one side, but I do like the material.
She's supposedly self-releasing her new album in the fall, though there was no mention of the format. While admirable in a way, I think it might be better if it was put out by an actual label who can handle the production and logistics involved. I don't think there would be lack of interest to release her stuff.

the february knurl reissue on new forces is brilliant, imho. just moves in a very intense way, without being obvious.
https://newforces.bandcamp.com/album/se ... radication
had to relisten to get my head around it, which is always a good sign. could arguably be a bit fuller, that's all.

Incapacitants - As Loud As Possible (repress)
This floored me. If you don't have it, buy it immediately. It's THAT good.
Not sure what I think of the bonus 7" yet, though.

Linkekraft dude sounding Neubauten? You had my curiosity, but now you have my interest...yullowteef wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 4:04 pm Mothra - Doom Engine (Three Plugs, 2005)
Amazing noise/industrial band featuring Masahiko Okubo of Linekraft. Heavy Neubaten vibes. Cool to hear the songs go from junk metal abuse to someone sparsely picking a bass guitar over feedback. Lots of diversity in sound and songwriting.
I am convinced it is his best. Listen to it in total darkness and you might come to agree.Brighter Death Now - Innerwar (Release Entertainment, 1996)
A masterclass in atmosphere. I'm on my second full listen of the day. Might be one of his best.

Were they on hypersomnia? She put out "STUCK" and "You Must Have Been Dreaming" this year on there. According to discogs, those are the only releases that label has and they're both tapes._IS_ wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 8:50 am New Puce Mary tapes. Yes, those are the tapes I was referring to. The new album to come out in the fall should be the third release on Hypersomnia, which is the name of her new label.xIncorruptibleCorpse777x wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 10:08 amWere they on hypersomnia? The metal TK! One of my favorite bands of all time. I even like these albums, though you can't beat the original 82-HC.
The unreleased Cape Vortex session here with Sir Luttinen (ex-Imp Naz) on drums... Tillis shitty d-beat suits TK much better! And Läjä sounds fucking shit on these tracks. Glad that this was never officially released.
Atrophist - I Hear Death Sounds
I hear death sounds too! Very bleak, ambient-like industrial/noise/hardtolabel. But never ambient, I think. Soundtrack-like soundscapes. Lovely collage by Manuel Pereira on front.
Sete Star Sept/Cum Sock Split
Woke me up!
Bryskt - Antropogen
Excellent harsh noise. (always)lovely collage on front now by Mikko Polus.

But he was always more concerned with making his guitar sound like a dying horse, more than anything else.

Been a while since I listened to my actual tapes since I’ve been really busy with work and rehearsing with my bands for upcoming shows, today I had the chance to just sit and enjoy some beers with some sweet tapes. Here’s what I’ve been listening to:
Scald Hymn - Balming Mechanism (Monorail Trespassing)
Piercing - Luxurious Ephemera (No Rent)
Prurient - Trapdoor (Hospital Productions)
Aprapat - Reef Crasher (New Forces)
