Discussion thread for “noise now playing”.

Photos can be added by using the Attachments button below post window when replying (option not available in Quick Reply function) and can either be uploaded from phone/computer or taken with smartphone camera at time of posting.

Photos will likely be the wrong orientation (general phpBB bug) but if you click the small rotate arrow beside the uploaded photo filename you can adjust this.

Tonight’s stack. S&W is “above board” now and I’m in the process of accounting for an accurate inventory. As a result I’ve been filtering through a lot of items that were set aside after listening to only once or twice in order to make room for the next crop of new arrivals and see what is to be kept and what is to be put back in stock. This stack - all keepers! Lots of people sleeping on the A Fail Association / T.E.F. “Unscrewed / Screwed Up” blaster.

EDDIE COCHRAN - Legendary Masters Series #4 DLP (Liberty, 1971)
Great compilation of his best tracks. Not much to add really.

SIR ASHLEIGH GROVE - The Nimply Power Sessions CD (Siren, 2015)
Playing this for the first time, but I’m alone with my raging kid, so no time for a substantial review. Beyond fantastic industrial noise from the 80’s. For fans of TNB, Vivenza, early John Duncan et al. Noone can dislike this.

Got this in the mail on Monday. Having a one year old means a lot less time to listen so this will probably be a big chunk of my home listening this week. Did give Treriksrösets Kristen Musik Från Rågsved yet another spin while out walking yesterday.

I bought this almost a year ago and somehow didn't listen until today. It doesn't disappoint.

This double cd was on my library for a while. Thanks to Beton as always for a great exchange

Not attaching pics (surely that eats up forum resources?) and the cd's are in my car anyway but today's drive to work listening was the new Pain Nail and on the way back, Macronympha - Grind.

That's a good point.
Admins, are we encouraged to go crazy with pics, or should it be reserved for special occasions?

Have been playing the K2 Hypertrophy reissue from Nefarious Activities all week. This morning is no exception. Satisfying balance between a hard beating and good drugs.

I was ridiculously active on the old Southern Lord-forum and attachments were a big no-no on there as they ate up the bandwith or something like that.

Listening to this little nasty fucker of a tape this morning as I get ready for work. I do not know the project name as the tape was sent to me by a Discogs customer that wanted to share their stuff with me and as seen in the pic there is no info at all in regards to artist/title, only a thank you note. They are from Arkansas which to me is fascinating in a noise-geography aspect, even in our digital age. Rough, overdriven exploratory noise that is not exactly reinventing the wheel, or to be honest all that amazing, but it is refreshing to hear something that has a free will and shows a potentially bright future for this yet-unknown project. I almost appreciate the tape more for it's rough fidelity than the noise composed on it.

For now upload as you see fit! I feel like the images are an important aspect, especially if looking to appeal to people who are now used to the Facebook noise groups, or Instagram.

When I was testing things out yesterday it seemed like the file sizes were being compressed at time of upload. At work now but will check out how the new uploads are looking when I get home tonight.

LINEKRAFT - Asura LP (Tesco, 2021)
This one feels like it picks up where Subhuman Principle left off. Highlight is the penultimate track which starts out in creeping, depressive Anenzephalia style mode before things get weirder with low key crude rhythms, vocals and a melody that wouldn't sound out of place in a John Carpenter flick.

SEWER ELECTION - Skärvor Av LP (Second Sleep, 2021)
Received last week and already my most listened to record of the the past couple months. Late contender for best release of 2021 and a great counterpart to the harsher and more brittle sounding Antarktis CD. This one takes its time and somehow manages to be simultaneously monotonous, tense and quietly thrilling throughout, the junk and debris that dominate the suite of tracks on the first side giving way to a long form, gloomy droning piece from which some truly gorgeous, bleak details emerge.

Just had a look at the files. I'd say we're good to keep posting photos. They're being compressed, server-side, and so far the largest one in this thread is still under 100KB and many are less than half that size. If all photos were 100kb we could have 1000 photo posts before we even hit 1GB of storage usage. With current actual sizes maybe we could have something closer to 2000 photos before hitting that mark. I guess it would be a smart move to keep uploaded photos restricted to threads where they are beneficial (playlist, archival/ephemera posts, etc), and require off-site hosting for image posting in other threads/sections. I believe the function can be set on specific categories, maybe even threads. So if there's somewhere a photo upload isn't allowed, the option wouldn't even be available.

EDIT: Okay, this has been set. The Noise Talk forum is the only place where uploads are physically allowed, but users can feel free to use their judgement if an attachment is required (Big stack of items? Sure. A rare item/obscurity? Definitely. A single item of a relatively common release? Maybe not essential, but still allowed.)

The server doubles as hosting for my shop, but if storage becomes a problem in the long run I don't mind upgrading to the next level at an additional CA$50/year (maybe that can be offset with user-funded donations if the time comes and it feels necessary). And if photo hosting does become an issue in the long term it can be turned off at that point.

Bandwidth usage is unlimited, so no problems there.

I've been playing through both of the On the Run tapes all day; somewhere between minimal techo, ambient and noise. Very pleasant to zone out to and great layouts. Artist behind the project runs the Snake America newsletter for those into the finer things in life/lifting.

Next in the stack is the Spell Caster - Manifestations of Death CS. Truly well done black metal/noise/dungeon synth. Very excited about the prospect of a full length, less excited about the amount of Blood on this tape (it's still sticky)

I’ve been working through this 6-disc set this week. Crash is my favorite Richard project, I just love some of those gritty high end frequencies.

Been a tad obsessed with this one as of late. It's mixed very well and has a multitude of diverse sounds, so the headphones experience has been vital.

YORIS ONDERA - Disease Of Rectum LP (Tesco, 2001)
Bought this from Millstone, and sensing my excitement over the title, he told me not to expect too much. Why, Love, why? It’s a fine album. Nothing revolutionary going on, just good old tescoish industrial. Slow foggy crawl through derelict concrete complexes, becquerel meters going nuts, you know the drill. What makes this stand out is the heavy handedly placed samples (voices, music, some careless whispery saxophone tooting at some point etc) and other quirks, like some crappy synth suddenly barging into the mix just a wee bit too loud. Freisler of GO on guest vocals in one track. In short, someone should have told Yoris to settle down a bit, but that didn’t happen. I really like it. Total ass trumpet of an industrial record. I bought this at nice price (unplayed old stock), but there are NM copies on discogs starting at 1€, so if you like FUN…

Baptist Skin Communiti - False Start 1992-1999 (2xc60, Trash Ritual, 2007)

Four sidelong tracks culled from four barely-existent tapes from the nineties.
Texan noise supergroup spearheaded by William Cast and featuring Richard Ramirez and all of his BLJ cronies of that era.
Oppressive, long form pieces of crunchy, sizzling static, at times blown-out to a strained, constricting wheeze. A lot of the stuff Ramirez and co. were doing at the time sounds like a nastier, less focused Chop Shop.
The packaging is great. A bigass spray painted box with colour-coordinated spraypainted tapes and inserts for each piece.
Y'know, Trash Ritual gets some shit for having a vague/base-level approach to visuals, but I can spot their tapes from a mile away.

Sewer Election – Skärvor Av (Second Sleep) LP

This is incredible. One of Dan’s best efforts. Can’t stop playing it. Wish the jacket hadn’t gotten destroyed in shipping. Europe needs better mailers, that’s a chronic problem across multiple countries. Flimsy thin cardboard. Sorry, had to say it.

Ugh. Hoping my copies survive. This is certainly a UK problem as well. I don't even know how these thing pass any quality standards.
