Forgotten noises from the entrails of the vault

Post by Noisomatic »

Hell-o to all! I thought starting a topic about older projects that might have been overlooked. The noise scene is a vast ocean of forgotten treasures... Hopefully this topic can be entertaining and resourceful.

Here's my first submission, a release that sounds like nothing that's done today: Sonic Disorder/ Vaginal Dissection split cassette!

https://youtu.be/GqyDEZgPCqQ

Curious to discover other odd jewels like this one!

Great thread

Last year's surprise for me was the Sons of God - Electric Fauna tape on The Tapeworm
An ongoing barrage of monolithic yet contemplative, sweet noise textures

I don't think it's uploaded anywhere but there are still copies around stores and the label might have some left

I recently found out about a group called Hunting Lodge, from Michigan in the early '80s - great noisy / industrial / tribal stuff. 1983's "Will" and 1984's "Nomad Souls" have been on high rotation for the last few weeks.

Off the top of my head the first thing that comes to mind that I rarely see acknowledged is Noisegate. Particularly their album The Towers Are Burning. Not strictly noise but in line with that mid-late 90's bleak CA crusty Neurosis/TLASILA style noise metal. Along with side projects and related such as Beneath The Lake and Wage Class Slave.
I guess they are probably more of a metal band sorry I'm drunk.

Thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware of Hunting Lodge existence. It's sounding great, reminding me of what Zero Kama / Nekrophile Rekords were doing around the same time but with an industrial mindset.

Another awesome project I have on top of my head which seems totally forgotten is Speculum Fight. It was such a good noise outfit with its own approach. I love the complex sound textures Damion Romero used to record. Unfortunately I lost track of his work once he started releasing material under his own name.

Here's a link to Speculum Fight side of the split tape with Lab Rat: https://youtu.be/rF5qAtQb608

Even though a lot of you might roll your eyes at this because he’s quite well known, I’d say David Gilden is extremely overlooked. Especially among noise newbies. Not that it’s anyone’s fault. His shit is hard to find, now.
Lately I’ve had his project with Akihiro Shimizu, Mikadoroid, playing on a loop.
Speaking of Shimizu, Thirdorgan is criminally under appreciated, too.

Purging Light - Endlessness Of Desire

https://purginglight.bandcamp.com/album ... -of-desire

I know this tape inside out. I’ve listened to it so many times over the years. Just great raw noise and scathing vocals. I’ve not really seen them mentioned outside of the few Dutch people who knew them when they were active. Heard they were pretty wild live, and I’m gutted I never got to see them. Think they’d definitely fall under the forgotten/unknown category for most people, but for me it’s one of the most essential titles in my collection.

OUTERMOST

from japan, mostly 90s and early 00's, lots of splits with some big names like Grunt, Facialmess, Bastard Noise, a cdr comp on hospital, one of the lesser-discussed japanese pure harsh artists from the peak era. sounds like a more broken MSBR

Outermost is king. Recently spent time with some stuff I grabbed off of soulseek, the Beware of This and That 3" CD-R on Hospital was a highlight. I think the only things I actually have are the two splits with Bastard Noise.

I wrote him a letter a few months ago, no reply as yet. I heard he lost a lot of his gear in a fire a few years ago.

ps the [ yt ] code only works with youtu.be links, I think because it wants to grab the link from the "share" button, rather than a straight copy of the URL.

Kei from Outermost is a legend for sure. I love everything he does, Outermost, Deadly Verity, Scab, etc. Very creative artist, extremely discrete and low key as well, and his label Cat Move is great.

An RT Dept discography lp came out recently. That's a kind of one-man-weird-punk-noise project he did. Great stuff.

I completely agree, I've a huge fan for years. Some of my favorites are Beast Mecanique (1993-1997) CD, split with Thirdorgan double CDr and Beware of This and That 3" CDr. I wasn't aware about the R. T. Dept. "Orderly Chaos" LP, do you know if it's still available anywhere? Any help to grab a copy would be appreciated!

Japan has a lot of unremembered but fantastic noise outfits. One of the first one that popped in mind after seeing the name Outermost is What A Smell. I discovered the project through the Extreme Music from Japan CD compilation and have been hunting anything I could find by them since then without much luck...

Have a blast:

You've been PMed.

What A Smell is cool. I have a few comps on which they appear but no full release of them. Actually, my friend got in touch with the Smmania dude once and he replied that he didn't have anything left when it comes to releases so...

Personally, I LOVE Kuso-Miso (RIP.)

Also, comps like these are so incredible.

The only What A Smell I have is from the split with Hentaitenno. WAS deliver very rough rounds of feedback-laced primitivo, sometimes quelled sometimes rabid, once unaccompanied twice underlined with burnt raw riffs at some buried remove, nevertheless sufficient to lend a vague rawkin vibe. Hentaitenno much more the clinicians, a couple brief aquatic dipsy doodles blown clean apart by legitimately fierce blasts of full-force whiteout, vacuum siphoned proto-thirdorg dynamics roughly axed and sucked straight through the scorchvoid. Might just listen to this again sometime.

In the wake of the Suzuki Shunya compiled EMFJ, there were two more collections of supposed EMFJ "out takes", also compiled by SS, issued by MSNP and IR (SS) respectively. Some overlap, but a number of different names and tracks. Basically, a then (and still for the most part today) lesser known selection of "extreme" music from Japan. Despite Roemer’s protests to the contrary, I think I might prefer the IR edition. Will need to listen to that again sometime, too.

(anyone unfortunate enough to have read the now-deleted precursor to the above, allow me to to plead the combined deficiencies of patchy memory meeting masses of tapes stuck in the wrong casings. plus, empty stomach. never post stupid shit on an empty stomach. not to knock the posting of stupid shit mind you. but at least get some damn food.)

despite blumpy's warning above I am posting this before eating breakfast. TWO ASSISTANT DEPUTY MINISTERS:

TADM discography is mostly splits with Government Alpha, Incaps, MOTE, from late 90s. I recall reading somewhere that all TADM stuff was done on computers with generated data.

Hunting Lodge had a few songs on the Nekrophile comp the Beast 666. An awesome tape, highly recommended.

It's on an Italian label but Strict was an American project. The album "In Preparation" is hailed as a classic in smaller circles, asfaik, though he definitely doesn't get as much recognition as he deserves. Also a handful of great 7"s. Really truly vile and exceedingly abrasive stuff.

Yep, I am out of the loop. Makes sense why the live stuff at the end is in English.

Gagarin Kombinaatti was one of the first projects Mika Vainio of Pan Sonic fame was in, maybe even the first. Not too well known I believe. Great noisy industrial.

Does anyone remember/know much about Destroy Date? I remember seeing some stuff in the noisemp3 days (!) called 'The Teardown Sessions' but never heard anything else. It wasn't necessarily earth shattering or life changing but it grabbed my attention due to its very particular sort of fidelity. Had the feeling of something being recording off a TV speaker or something. Links to Final Solution, +DOG+ and more from what I gather on discogs.

Hah great to read this! Yeah Gijs has made some awesome noise, live was a sight to behold, very intense and visceral, not always to the liking of bystanders due to it getting violent sometimes, but always with full dedication and intent. But I don't know if he ever returns to that noise again. Has been quite a while though since my last contact with him, so I have no idea what he is up too. Maybe should give him a call sometime.

I think his solo projects are even better.
