Haven't seen the Presage tape mentioned a whole lot but I agree it is most excellent. Quite the follow-up to Hair Diaries.

A few more releases of note:
Primitive Wings - Morphosis CD (can't overemphasize this enough)
Seepage - Tertium Quid 2CD. Had to wait a little while to get this but it was well worth it. Seepage has become one of my absolute favorite projects since I've started listening. Everything from the pacing to the sheer mind numbing absurdity of the sounds is perfect.
Green Tea - Snowblower. Already a top favorite for the year I've played it many times since it came in the mail. Hard to believe that it's a debut, I really hope that a follow up isn't far behind.

Max Julian Eastman's Zabriskie/Manor needs a large shout out here.

Presage is so solid, takes his time to put out each tape, but you always know it's going to be quality. More highs and mids with less low end than Hair Diaries if memory serves correctly. Side B is very active with lots of good layers and edits, done very well. May spin all of the tapes side by side soon to compare.

And agreed on Seepage, this new double CD is fantastic. All of their material has been excellent but this really takes them to another level. I would say it's my favorite release of the year and maybe the last couple of years. It's extremely good. The new solo Kiran album is also great. Heavier emphasis on the "electro-acoustic" minimal sound on this one but good mix all the way around.

Burselm Accomplice Vol. 2 (Burselm Crypt Recordings)
Christian Mirande - Beautiful One Day, Perfect The Next (Regional Bears)
Dressing - Morning Terror, Evening Well (Abhorrent A.D.)
Francis Plagne - Udge (Horn of Plenty)
Hhost - Windswept Italics (Altered States Tapes)
Isobel D'Cruz & Simon J Karis - Cassowary Paint (Nice Music)
JP - Pink Electronics (Granite City Recordings)
Luciano Maggiore & Louie Rice - Three Things (Adhuman)
Wino Lodge - Pocket Mutations (Chocolate Monk)
Witness K - S/T (Ever/Never Records)

Uh a bunch of those may not fit too well with the usual threads here, but if you're into singular voices making idiosyncratic gestures you should do yourself a favour.

Nice to see the Christian Mirande lp mentioned.

Same for Wino Lodge - the roll they’ve been on for the last couple of years is scary.

CIA Debutante - Down Willow. Likely to end up an album of the year in this house. Might be the best one yet? Certainly the most confident.

I just heard this one over the weekend and I agree, I was surprised by the more minimal palette, but I think it works effectively.

I also wanted to mention a few more releases that I haven't seen talked about very much:
MO*TE - Kill The Sun CD (Dada Drumming)
One continuous hour long track give or take, somehow feels both longer than it seems and at the same time shorter.
Umpio - Sin Memoria CD (Absurd Exposition)
I haven't heard a great deal of Umpio's output but I just finished listening to this and I'm very interested in hearing more. This disc has everything I love to hear on a harsh noise CD.

I'm really liking Slit Throats - King Of The Monster Trucks (Phage Tapes). Some of the sounds on there do a great job of scratching a certain itch I'm incapable of formulating into words.

I’ve listened to Dysphoria Ultra by Nit a couple times now and am really liking it a lot. Gonna have to figure out how to get my hands on some more of his work.

Coming back to check in with this one now that I have heard quite a few new releases from this year.

Scathing - Flesh Wreckage (Cruel Symphonies)
this one will take the cake for me as best noise record of the year, probably. Absolutely maniacal in every sense of the word, and getting to play with him twice this summer was an honor.

Max Eastman - Zabriskie/Manor (Satatuhatta)

Green Tea - Snowblower (New Forces)

Sissy Spacek - Absorb Wanting Symbols (Petite Soles)

Skin Crime - A Soul Eaten By Darkness (Hospital)
Blemish
Dead Door Unit
French Market Press

The return of Crucial Blast Records has meant that one of their first releases is from Boredom Knife. Highly recommend this.

And I've heard good things about the split tape between Slit Throats and Ruptured. It came out on Angst. Wish it was available digitally, but maybe that'll happen after it goes out of print?

Get it here: https://www.screamandwrithe.com/product ... ptured-cs/

Or here: http://angst.limitedrun.com/products/73 ... split-c-20

And listen to some of it here: https://www.soundohm.com/product/slit-t ... ptured-tap

I just heard a snippet of Children of the Wisteria and loved it. So I turned it off and ordered Snowblower. I really look forward to it.

Star Staircase was formed by Michiro Endo's Stalin and Hiroshige JOJO's Emergency Staircase, and later became the origin of the "Staircase Collaboration" series. The legendary live performance recorded in September 1983 at Kyoto University's Seibu Auditorium was reissued on CD for the first time after 40 years! everything bizarro warrior but i bought recently:

living room - failed attempts at scorched earth
reis/lorenz - horizontal hold

quadrupling or more the primitive wings - morphosis

this might be disliked but i bought a cd called "Resonance Studies in Ecstatic Consciousness" by Madison Greenstone. it's purely acoustic extended techniques on Bb clarinet but it might as well be harsh noise

total sweetheart - lazy saturdays. this band is killing it with EVERY RELEASE. love that they're all pretty much two track c60s in format even on cd ya know what i mean

the new boyfriends 1+2 double cd reissue, if that counts. completely goated pure harsh noise.

MUST be mentioned: perfected grave vault - mutative forecast. charlie mumma and aaron aspinwall doing a fantastic job.

heat signature - brain on war.

I haven't done "Best of the Year" lists in like 13 years or so, but the best noise/experimental album I heard this year was the contemporary Italian tape/electo-accoustic compilation "Tutto A Posto Niente In Ordine" on Nashazphone. Absolutely stunning example of forward-thinking experimental from names both known and semi-known. Blows away anything I heard in the way of this year or last.

Yup!

Er. Anyone with any dissertation-level recommendations on the subject? Cause there has got, like, to be something there (even without T Riley and T Mikawa repeatedly saying so (fuck em!)), no doubt stuck deep inside of one of them places where it (the terminated subject) is not, necessarily (or so I'd assume), inclined to shine. I digress*.

Btw. mattias gustafsson. nedbrytningen. The proverbial shit. Of the year. (Even without the poor bird getting hosed.)

The new Knurl / Artbreakhotel split 2CS, Scrap Metal Labyrinth, on Buried in Slag and Debris is really excellent. Four sides of varied, interesting metal sounds from two of the best at it. Plus the packaging is particularly beautiful!

Always difficult to do this justice. But according to my notes I enjoyed these particularly...there's some stuff here I wouldn't have thought actually came out this year. No doubt a bunch of stuff in the 'to listen' pile from this year that would have been on the list were I to get to it in time.

Matthieu Fuentes - Ily, Almeria (More Mars)
Chik White and Bill Nace - Off Motion (Open Mouth)
Angus Maclise - Tapes (Art Into Life)
Natalia Beylis - Library of Sticks (Artsy)
Star - Elephant In The Snow (Hospital Prod)
no artist - Midday (Robert Fuchs)
CIA Debutante - Down, Willow (Siltbreeze)
Creep of Paris - Ever More Precise Accounts of the Cave (Drowned By Locals)
Deli Kuvveti - Bükülür Bükülmez (Tsss Tapes)
Max Julian Eastman - Zabriskie / Manor (SATATUHATTA)

Kiran Arora - The Wilderness Years (Fantasy Knife)
Red Wine & Sugar - Turkish Coffee & Twice Baked Potatoes (Chocolate Monk)
