NEW TITLES
B.P. – Zhiishiibi-Zhiibiing CS
A placid study of shoreline life in Manitoba’s interior through noise, field recordings and tape loops.
The album title is in Ojibwe and is pronounced “ve-sheep see-be”, which translates to “Duck River”, where all the field recordings were taken at. The name today is Duck Bay Reservation, local folk call it Duck River.
Bret Parenteau (ARDOR, GASHKADIN) is a Winnipeg sound artist. Primarily performing under his B.P. moniker, he is head of the Makade Star and (now-defunct) Male Activity labels.
Edition of 78 pro-dubbed tapes. Includes download code.
TED BYRNES – All Hands CS
“There’s something life reaffirming about each Ted Byrnes release. The intensity of his playing is ejaculatory and joyful. His recordings are intimate, and every time I hear them I feel like I’ve been ushered into a private ritual by a masked attendant to see something in a molten, liminal space outside of daily experience. Purity has not yet been fully exorcised from modern life, and in Ted’s work, it feels like we can still have a brush with that elusive quality. Something flows directly from his heart into his work, and the flurry of rattles, pops, rolls and plinks in his sound feels like taking flight. There’s a momentum he builds over each painstaking, feverishly rendered track that’s entirely unto itself. On his new release “All Hands,” Byrnes is as vibrant and exploratory as ever. He absolutely jackhammers through cuts like “Gifts” and imbues opener “Adjacent Object” with little frills and touches that indicate the subtlety he explored on another excellent 2020 release, “Tactility.” He’s the kind of artist you can show practically anyone and leave them mouths agape. If you can split the difference between Penis Geyser and Rashied Ali, as Ted has, you’re clearly onto something – and if you’re not listening to Mr. Byrnes, I have no idea what you’re doing.” – Josh Landes (Limbs Bin)
Edition of 102 pro-dubbed tapes with 4×6 artwork housed in plastic bags. Includes download code.
GRIEFER – Communication Denial CS
A follow up to 2017’s “Egress Report”, and an appearance on Tesco’s “Projekt Neue Ordnung II” compilation, “Communication Denial” is perhaps Griefer’s most concise effort to date. Lyrics about surveillance culture, data mining, dark web endeavours and classic hacker exploits aimed at big tech are shouted over the signature looped barrages of clanging metal, sawing blades and resounding alarms that have come to define Griefer’s sound over the past 17 years. Instrumentals such as “Palantir” bring to mind rattling server rack mounts deep in cold storage, while the sonic revving-up of “787 Avionics Network” gives way to a manufacturing-line march to the beat of Boeing’s half truths and guises, markedly in order: “We will not provide any evidence / You will trust us implicitly.” “Communication Denial” is a welcomed timely return to Absurd Exposition amid elections tampering, foreign influences on social media, and general heightened digital paranoia. “A future of widespread distrust is upon us.”
Edition of 105 tapes pro-dubbed in real time with paper labels. The first 100 copies include download codes.
KIER-LA JANISSE / THE RITA – Introduction and Immersion CS
The interests and works of Kier-La Janisse and Sam McKinlay have consistently overlapped and intertwined throughout the past two decades, with a basic commonality being their mutual fondness for cult European cinema. Most recently, Janisse offered up a brief dossier on The Rita via director Nicolas Winding Refn’s byNWR website, a haven for the truly obscure. Her text was accompanied by a track from The Rita entitled “Spiked Heels and Black Nylons” and a documentary, “Tights Worship: The Processes of The Rita”, directed by Mike McKinlay (Sam’s brother). Now, with “Introduction and Immersion”, the two contribute long form studies of their deep interests. Janisse reads an excerpt, aptly titled ‘Spike Heels’, from “Women’s Rites”, written by French dominatrix Catherine Robbe-Grillet under her nom de plume Jeanne de Berg in 1985. McKinlay, as The Rita, offers up his newest form of deconstruction and obsession. The concentration of these pieces lend themselves to a sort of reaction/response approach, while the length of each allows for true “immersion” in the studies. The pairing is seamless.
Kier-La Janisse is, among many things, the author of “House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films” (Fab Press, 2012) and founder of the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies. Her upcoming works include a documentary on the history of folk horror to be released by Severin Films.
Sam McKinlay needs no introduction around these parts. His work as The Rita over the past 24 years has been entrenched in the foundations of harsh noise. Previous releases on Absurd Exposition include “Sharks and the Female Form” (2019), “Montreal 2018”, and a split with Vancouver’s Worker in 2015.

JUTE – Simstim CS
The high frequencies chirp and the input engines sputter and settle, now idling for the duration of routine system checks. The air is dirty and barely breathable. Pressure valves hiss and release the smell of burning chrome. Suddenly a connection is made. Your eyes shut through no will of their own. A construct is forming. Mind and technologic space are conjoining, seeking an eternal escape from the sprawl, its smell and its decay. A ragged symbiosis between man and machine wrought with duct tape, dust and fraying wires.
“Canadianoise” for the acceleration age.
Edition of 52 pro-dubbed tapes.
MOT – Savage CS
A quick C14 of skipping discs, buzzing tones and humming frequencies soon savaged. At times bringing to mind the works of JOE COLLEY.
MOT is the project of collage artist Paul van Trigt from Victoria, BC.
Edition of 51 pro-dubbed tapes.
ANDREW NOLAN – Museum Etiquette CS
Andrew Nolan (INTENSIVE CARE, WOLFAGRAM) returns once again to Absurd Exposition, following “Background Music” (2018) and “We Know Now What a Modern Society Can Do with a Parking Lot” (2016). This latest effort, “Museum Etiquette”, continues the theme of urban anxiety explored through processed field recordings of various dialogues, intense encounters, overheard incidents, trains, rain and the general hustle and bustle of the city weaved into the fabric of a modulated noise soundscape. The A-side starts with metal bars clanging and suddenly you’re stuck in a cell (or in traffic, transit, or some greater definition), being slowly squeezed by the increasing pressure of the outside world as it drones, hums, and buzzes around you, with any exit appearing ever distant. The B-side brings to mind both classic industrial and early 80s electronic music scores with faint reminisces of Throbbing Gristle a la “After Cease to Exist” and John Carpenter shining through. All in all, “Museum Etiquette” is a sensible continuation of, and expansion upon, the works Nolan has previously put forth.
Edition of 126 pro-dubbed tapes with pad-printed labels. The first 100 copies include download codes.
PRIMITIVE ISOLATION TACTICS – Dirty Prophecies CS
Coaxed perception is assured by constructing a narrative out of abstraction, leading one to posit the statement rather than examine the question. Perception is tainted by presumption. Prophecy is dirtied by default.
In-house project. Recorded in a spontaneous half-hour session with minor edits.
“FULL TONAL EXPLORATION” – Ted Byrnes
Edition of 101 pro-dubbed tapes with 4×6 artwork housed in plastic bags. The same program repeats on both sides. Includes download code.
VIOLENT SHOGUN – The Possibility of Life’s Destruction CS
A burning descent into a purgatory of humanity’s mistakes played back ad infinitum. The enormous door slams in the depths of hell. Will we wake up from this continuing nightmare?
A savage trip through the nuclear inferno by way of harsh noise and tape loops from France’s Violent Shogun.
Edition of 76 pro-dubbed tapes. Includes download code.

- Noise Talk • Re: Project Feedback Thread 10/06/2024I like it - It's definitely better than most "one month in"-shots at noise, including my own. Definitely has potential as a stepping stone to something. I'm feeling a more "composed" approach rather than freeform, is that what you were going for? Thanks a lot! A composed approach is indeed what I was aiming for. But […]labousanankou
- Noise Talk • Re: Project Feedback Thread 10/06/2024This is my latest album as Labous an Ankou, its death industrial, very atrax morgue inspired. It's one of my favourite I've ever made. Let me know what you think :) iframe Also, this may be asking a lot but it would be awesome if somebody could listen to the other albums on my channel […]labousanankou
