Power electronics is a confrontational genre at its core. Subject matter can often be too dark or discomforting for the casual music listener to stomach. Frataxin has shown that they are a master of the genre for years now, simply by stripping it down to its basic, ugly core; a microphone, screeching feedback, a voice that demands your full attention. Anyone who has listened to or seen Joe perform live knows that the intensity presented is as authentic as it gets. “Anopheles” continues the project’s tradition of presenting uncomfortable subject matter in the most abrasive way possible through 5 tracks that were previously only available on long out-of-print splits and compilations. The mastering work of Eric Trude (Stress Orphan) brings them new levels of harsh and agonizing perfection.
On a personal level, seeing Frataxin perform over 5 years ago is what inspired me to start making my own noise (and still inspires me to this day). Additionally, Joe’s work with the Uninvited record label served as a main influence in my decision to start the Music Ends Here label. To say I am honored to be putting out “Anohpeles” is a massive understatement.
Long live Frataxin. This release is not for the faint of heart.
