Even Less Of The Harmony Of Maine finds Jarrod Skene’s Victorine Meurent project in a state of deep reflection. It is undeniable to say that we are all influenced by history — ethnically, sociologically, creatively, and how we exist in this very moment of time. The mark left on us by the past occurs in an infinite number of ways that is often hard to recognize on the surface, but is always there, constantly shifting the fabric of reality. Taking from the late-era John Cage work “Some Of The Harmony Of Maine,” Victorine Meurent ruminates on the past and how it has shaped Skene himself as an individual in the present. A nostalgic organ resonates, interlaced with delicate flute tones while the sounds of life come and go. Together, these aural memories feel fleeting but timeless: the final shining crescent of a sunset descending beyond the earth.
