Given Hospital Productions boss Dominick Fernow’s deep knowledge of the noise scene past and present, it’s not that surprising to see his label reissuing this obscure – but sought after – 1995 album by Yorkshire freeform noiseniks Smell & Quim. This is the first time it has ever appeared on wax, with Fernow choosing to stretch the hour or so of material over two slabs of wax to ensure better quality sound. What you get is deliciously dystopian: a range of intense, mind-altering audio collages that layer up mind-bending guitars, feedback, squally electric noise, field recordings and sound effects.
